Piccolo yelling "SLUG!" is because he's still miffed about Slug being forgotten about. He's being a bro and hyping up a fellow Namekian.
That's how I always took it with the previous bit about Piccolo feeling like Slug is underrated as a villain by the rest of the Z Warriors lol
But... In the playlist this is before Broly... But in canon and in publication order its after Broly... Oh to hell with it, neither of them are canon so all takes are accurate.

I didn't even know of the existence of the OVA when I first saw this parody. I still found the Trunks timeline joke hilarious even without the full context. As a visual gag it truly stands on its own.
To be fair, we did find out in super that time travel is a no-go.
Why do I always imagine the whole "I have an uncle?" "You HAD an uncle." resulting in Bulma going, "You have an aunt." and Trunks sadly respnding, "I HAD an aunt."

I know the movies take place in their own continuity but I really like the idea that Santa scolding Goku for constantly putting the world in danger is actually what planted the seed for Goku deciding to stay dead by the end of the series.
I mean if anyone could teach Goku something and have it stick it’s probably the actual real Santa Clause and literally no one else

There will be some commentaries scattered throughout 2024 but when and on what will remain a mystery until they happen. I watched this with my niece last week. She is 3 and this was her first time watching anything Dragon Ball. She kept trying to take my phone to watch Goku fight Santa.

As much as it pains me to say, the christmas spirit bit gave me chills. Goku saying "And most of all, It's not about you" is one of the coldest things TFS Goku has ever said, especially given his adoration of Santa through the whole DBZA timeline
The music they used for the fight makes the final blast so epic that it stops being cheesy and turns it into awesomeness
Piccolo talking about the bonds that bring us together is also unironically heartwarming, considering that he was once a lonely and bitter spawn of a demon king.

This reimagining of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans into a Christmas special is equal parts funny, entertaining, and genuinely wholesome. That remix of Carol of the Bells had no reason to go so hard.
I mean that wasn’t TFS, that’s a radio standard around Christmas Time by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Carol of the Bells goes oddly hard to begin with, and TSO is just a great listen. And this is from someone who hates Christmas music.

Me and my brothers always end up using the bickering between frieza and cooler whenever we meet up for christmas. I'm going to miss these commentaries, didn't realize how much of my routine on Saturday these had become until now but just wanted to say thank you nor just for the amazing DBZA series but also the reflection back on it with these weekly episodes.
Nies is the absolute G.O.A.T. for editing the most watchable commentaries ever for over a year. So happy to see this channel get a second wind. I absolutely wouldn't have checked out all the other content on here if not for these commentaries, so I hope to see more fun stuff with all the crew again throughout 2024. Again, Nies is the fucking G.O.A.T.
The whole “Gohan you’re a minor” joke is funny because before he clarified that Goku meant “minor character” I still thought it worked.
Gohan is a kid.
Piccolo is technically still underage.
And for Bulma, it’d be funny if he still believed Bulma was 16 or 18 at her insistence.
And Vegeta is four foot tall
And even not including Trunks cause at this point he’s like 18 (give or take a couple years for time chamber shenanigans)
So underrated, but when Evil Santa is like, " You fools! You cannot kill Santa!" And Goku says "I KNEW IT!" That might be one of the things that made me laugh hardest, not just in this special, but in the whole series; tonal, visual perfection right there

The Christmas specials were always my favorites of DBZA. You guys took something and made it into something else truly your own. And it’s gold.
I cannot tell you how much I was confused when you guys did this movie. I had never seen it before and I initially suspected that it was entirely new animation because of how weird it looked.

It's been fun to follow along with you, and getting to hear all of the anecdotes and explanations and all the behind the scenes stories have been genuinely entertaining. When Piccolo screamed Slug I always thought it was a callback to when he was talking about how no one mentioned him in the mecha cooler movie.
“Pa rum pum pum pummeled” the first time I watched this had me laughing to tears.
It's funny how you see the energy difference. Doing all those commentaries in one or two sittings definitely took a toll.

I love watching these commentaries cause I get jokes I missed pointed out to me. The May McStand flew right by me a dozen times but when u pointed it out I died laughing. The super subtle jokes is what makes you guys so much better than the rest!

Thinking back upon it the night this video was released I was sitting in the hospital watching my older brother with his eyes open for the first time in several weeks. He had an incident and was in a medical coma since the week of thanksgiving, went septic and had renal failure throughout his body, and was given a less than 50% prognosis of surviving let alone returning to a normal life. Between that and my personal life becoming a personal hell I was such a shitty place at the time being that I was leaning towards that regrettable mistake. This video and my brothers eyes that day were some beacons of hope from a very dark place and it's been 6 years and I still think back to that evening
Also my brother survived and made a 97% recovery, little bit of short term memory issues and a bit of a magic foot when he walks but all and all my brother is still with us and I'll be seeing him and my family in a few hours
