  • Samsung has another folding phone, and this time it's the Galaxy Z Flip. Dieter Bohn reviews the screen, the hinge, and the cameras. It may not be worth $1380, but you can see that we're getting close to folding screens becoming "normal."

However, the reason people will be more excited about the Apple version is because they'll wait until the technology is mature enough and their product refined enough that it makes reasonable sense for a consumer.

    At the end of the day, it goes back to the tech argument of "never buy the first iteration of a new device", and when it comes to flip phones, maybe don't buy the second.
    There are flip smart phones, just not all screen style, but they don't sell them in America.
    This technology is cool, and may be viable in a couple of years. But unless you have money to blow, there isn't a point in risking spending your money on it, yet.

    • @WEFAHawkStreet
      @WEFAHawkStreet Před 4 lety +2

      Johnnie Manson, Samsung has offered flip phones for years.
      It was under the product line of Samsung Galaxy Folder, look it up.
      It’s nothing incredible in terms of specs, but it’s a flip smartphone that can do necessary business related things like email and such in a small foldable package.
      Don’t get me wrong, the Z Flip is leagues ahead of if in terms of what it can do, but if I HAD to purchase a flip phone, I’d prefer the keypad variant right now, because I don’t trust the longevity of the Z Flip or Motorola Flip.

    The Verge is biased towards Apple products. Simple. It would take Apple years to research at Samsung's level. Also, while you're at it ask Apple to use its own display. Oh wait you need Samsung or LG for that! There is a reason this channel can never compete with MKBHD or Unbox Therapy for that matter.

    So I get the galaxy fold's form factor. It's nice in theory to have a phone be pocket able when you need it and still offer a tablet sized screen. But a phone that sized like a normal phone that folds into a smaller, useless phone... I don't quite get it. It's very cool, for sure. But what's the pitch beyond that?

  • @Kdkjdjewerdnxa
    @Kdkjdjewerdnxa Před 4 lety +1

    “Glass screen” can be easily scratched with fingernails that won’t go away. Folding phones are still not worth it. From a user’s perspective, it feels and behaves like a plastic screen that’s very slightly firmer than the previous folding phones.

    nice review, when they announced this, I was thinking this is the S10e in a smaller footprint, just thicker, and even less impressive 1080plus screen, still dci 2k by definition, hampered by a less contrasty screen protector. Funny the cameras are even older gen, maybe coming from the galaxy A line or the lite line.

    If the screen didn't scratch so easily and it was sub $1000, I'd honestly consider it. For next year I really think they need more feature parity with the 2021 Galaxy S line. Why would you give us amazing cameras on the S line this year but then make us choose between them and a foldable phone? Why not have the same cameras on the Z flip this year?

      What does being an Apple channel have to do with it!!!? There have been Android-centric channels that have said it’s cool but...don’t buy it. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t have potential, but the phone is extremely delicate and isn’t for everyone. If you can’t afford to lose 1400.00 then don’t buy, because the potential of it happening is higher than with your “normal” phone.

    People saying they will hold on to their note 10+, s10+ etc, I want to ask you guys: What makes you so obsessed with tech that you would want to upgrade from a six month/ one year old phone? I mean would you even notice the upgrades on a new phone so soon? More than a waste of money, it is a serious detriment to one's mental peace. We need to chill and relax, settle down with one phone for at least 2-3 years. There is no end to the quest for the perfect phone. You end up not enjoying the tech you have with you. Upgrades feel better when they are spaced apart longer.
