- We're back and Season 2 of Cycle Sunday is going to be bigger and better than ever ! First up we can finally build my Bianchi Oltre XR4 with Campagnolo Super Record EPS some 8 months after we originally planned.
In this video we watch Steve, one of the amazing technicians at Criterium Cycles, step by step as he completes the ultimate bike build of my frame up custom build. The results are spectacular and we can finally let you know the two things I have been asked most about this project. How much does it weight and how much did it cost ?

Wow!! Ped you're one lucky guy. I wish you many happy miles with smiles 😊
I'm still catching up on this build series, BUT if Ped doesn't have an ear to ear grin on any ride, I'm booking an air ticket to England to triple kickbox his lycra-clad jewels.
If I was ever lucky enough to have a dream bike built, I'd like a technical artisan like Steve to do the job for me. He did a perfect job and the end result is stunning. Worth every single penny.
Cheers Patrick. He sure knows his stuff 👍
A completely stunning Bike.. 100% worth every pound spent for the smile on your face everytime you hop on for a ride..
Can’t wait to get out and ride it 👍
This is the most beautiful bike i've ever seen
Wow thank you 🙏🏻
Wow,that is a serious bit of kit.I hope you have many, many happy miles on it.
I have absolutely NO INTEREST in (push) bikes BUT I found these Cycle Sundays fascinating. Well presented and the bike shop man really knows his stuff. Keep up the good work.
That was so cool. It's nice to see craftsmanship still appreciated. I miss the days of people tinkering with things. Everyone's in a rush these days, so watching the build was truly pleasing. Look forward to seeing the first rides with this bike. Thank you Ped.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
My dream bike and dream components. Thanks for making this video! Good job!
Evening all! Nice to see the return of Cycle Sunday.
Yay 😀
Steve was probably the reason I bought my Xr4 from Criterium, really impressed by his skill and was the first person I interacted with in the old shop. Don’t tell Paul, he would have thought it was his “slick” sales skills 😂 Great people and great bikes 👍
Thats sunday evening sorted. What a machine! Hope you enjoy many miles on it
Thanks Will. I’m looking forward to everyone 👍
So very fitting that I watched this video during a turbo session. I really like this finish with all the cables routed internally. Not sure all bike technicians like them. On the subject of bike technicians, a big shout out to all you guys for looking after our pride and joys. The numbers I am interested in are the chain ring and cassette sizes. Great that your both back, keep up the good work.
Cheers Bob. Tune in on Friday for those 👍
That is one hell of a bike and an incredibal amount of work, you really are going to enjoy riding that!!
I sure will 👍
I think I feel as proud and happy as you Pete. It’s been a long wait but so worth it.
There is something strangely relaxing and also satisfying in watching a bike build video and you my man have nailed it. Awesome build! I wish you loads of awesome (yet safe) rides on your stunning bike!
Thanks buddy. One of the most difficult videos I’ve made so far 😬
WoW WoW that’s so nice I can’t not believe it 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thanks Clifton 🙏🏻
To finally see this bike come together! Wow Sir Pete it looks stunning! Great quality videos and great camera work from dan! To be honest I couldn’t ever see myself spending that much on a bike let alone half that. But after seeing the bike complete I can understand why someone would. Can’t wait for more content around this bike and also your other bikes and Mrs petrol Ped’s bike as well! Mr Paul and Sir Pete this series is awesome 😎
Cheers buddy. We had to wait a long time but it was worth it in the end 👍
Wow Peter Super video the bike builders now have to be more of a technician than a mechanic I have a Bianchi Aria e road in the same colour and makes you appreciate what go’s into to building one up looking forward to seeing you on a ride I hope that you feel the wait was worth it Les 🚴♂️👍
It was awesome to watch Steve at work 👍
I LOVE MY BIANCHI OLTRE XR4, THANK YOU GUYS!!!
Nice 👌
Must add it cost the same as my Mini Cooper S F56 it was £13,000 (£30,000 when new), The Campag group set is amazing, so is the frame and love the 3 spoke configuration on the wheels ....Looking forward to the ride video.
On certain components he has extra video on those parts you should put his link to his CZcams videos. I watched this after your bantering about your build. Very awesome video.
There is a link to the Cycle Sunday playlist in the video 👍
That bike is beautiful Pete. What a craftsman!
Cheers John. Pretty special for sure 👌
So.... where's the bell, reflector and lights..?? lol, only kidding!! That's an awesome piece of engineering right there!! Enjoy it, you've waited long enough to get it.
Simply stunning 👌. Can’t wait to see the first ride Peter! Thanks for sharing
I can’t wait to have the first ride 😂
Yay - so glad Cycle Sunday is back 🙂 Loved the build sequence and what a bicycle … and so it should be 😳 - South Downs? Next summer NC500 trip on this beauty please. Safe cycling 🙂
Stunning build in every way and beautifully filmed.😀
Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi Ped. What a fantastic looking bike! It's a work of art. Seems a shame to get it dirty :-)
Been a long wait but glad it is finally a together. I have always worked on my own bikes and have build up one from scratch but never had an electronic groupset so was good to see how they are installed and set up. Why wouldn't it have an app!!
I'm sure you will have a great time on it, it's going to go like a rocket.
Maybe a PP sportive is needed to show it off?
What a great video and it had me drooling at every point a new component was added. Looks amazing and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on your first ride.
Congrats on achieving your dream bike. Hard work does eventually pay off ! It looks absolutely fabulous. Can’t wait to see your first ride video and see your priceless reaction.
Good on ya mate 👍
Just waiting for a dry day 😂
This looked like a ASMR video for me. Love that Bianchi blue. Stunning. You’re a lucky chap, Peter. 😎
I am indeed 🙏🏻
All getting built ready for you to do the North coast 500 on it in the summer, lovely !
Damn impressive Peter, wow 👍👍👍👍
Wow, what a stunning bike. I think you have neglected to mention one other set of numbers!, what size chainrings & cassette. Looking forward to hearing about how it rides.
That’s in next weeks video 😜👍
Now that was a very welcome video.
Nice build.
Same groupset and wheels as I am going for myself.
It is on the heavy side though.
My current one is a size 58, 2010 Cervelo S1aluminium frame with Ultegra.
With pedals, 2 bottle cages, Wahoo elment bolt V2.
And it weighs 7.93 kg.
It is a bit smaller than yours and with rim brakes, but it is aluminium, not carbon and not as high specced groupset and wheels.
Hi Pete , I cycled past PP towers with the hope of a glimpse of the bianchi this am. No PP doing his first ride review , look forward to April may then. Lol. Only jealous hope to catch you out soon 👍🚴👍
The bike looks stunning, if it looks fast it will be fast. 👍👌👌👌👌
Had to go out for lunch. Hoping to take my first ride out tomorrow 👍
Great piece of work , well built and looking ready for action , nice Edit , well done Pedro and Criterium and team 👍
Thanks Paul 👍
This can be summarized by "do not think about trying this at home". Mounting and adjusting mechanical shifting and rim brakes requires an allen wrench, screw driver and a cable cutter. Internally routing, wiring and adjusting electronic shifting and hydraulic disc brakes requires about a dozen dedicated tools, syringes, gaskets, plugs, spacers and templates plus a few extra feet of electrical tape.
It can indeed. Especially for me 😂😂😂
Awesome bike ! awesome build ! also one of my dream bikes! but there is no money.have to be content with my 1997 steel Bianchi(Columbus Genius) ,had it for about 22 years now.It is a sweet riding bike in celeste of course with a blue pearl.Enjoy that first ride.
Wow! That was worth waiting for!
Thanks Ian. It’s been a long wait 😂
WOW. I was trying to guess the price, based on absolutely nothing. I was about £4K out!! Looking forward to see how you get on with it..
Back again yay
Yep 👍
What a thing! 😍. Congratulations.
Watching this bike build was so beautiful to watch and therapeutic that it made the video thoroughly enjoyable. We have all waited long enough for this day and it was definitely worth the wait. Now what’s the bike like to ride?
I've just built the exact same bike, absolutely stunning 😍
This is why i subscribed . . . I wanted to see the build . . . An wow 👌 took a while but worth it 👌
Hopefully it was worth the wait 👍
congratulations on your new bike....great to see everything coming together. In the end, the top end bikes are going to cost - the same way as the difference between the cheapest and most expensive cars. Now you will have to raise your riding to match. thought you might have left the stem until after the first few hundred miles to check the fit and then cut it..so hope that works out.
enjoy...
Sadly you can’t do that. The integrated bars mean it has to be cut to the right size. Luckily is was fitted so so knew the perfect measurement. Get it around though and it’s well over £1000 for a new fork or and 8+ hours in the workshop taking the bars off and cutting the tube 😳
PS I really enjoy my Michelin power tubeless...good choice...the confidence and grip is great
How much extra speed does £13k buy you I wonder ? Very nice looking machine. I’d be too scared to ride it in case I got it dirty. I hope Mrs P will be OK with you keeping it in the lounge, it’s too nice for the garage.
Speed and endurance are hard to quantify 😜😂
@@PetrolPedThey are not hard to quantify, they are just difficult to compare due to the many variables involved. I guess if you go out and start smashing many of your previous Strava segments, is a pretty good indication that its down to the new bike, and not the elite, highly trained athlete on top !
Great music to day long build. As lovely this is , original STi s on early carbon rim brake still a beaut to own and ride. installation time is close to zero to build. I’ve 5 rim treks. May go electric next year. Only had one electric TT. Still like mechanical but goes out true too quick
Nice wheels. Drive safe!
Thanks 👍
WOW!! 'nuff said! 👌
👍
Lovely bike Pete. Be really interesting to see how you get on with the gear change lever on inside. I tried it coming from Shimano Di2 background and found it a bit alien. New bike build was having new Dura Ace but eta Dec 2022 so going with new Ultegra in March until Dura Ace arrives (and Ultegra will go on wife’s bike!). Can still change for Super Record EPS so watching this space (and awaiting your thoughts).
Awesome
👊
Great video. Lovely bike 😎
That looks fantastic!
However it’s all your fault I became dissatisfied with my Infinito, sold it and bought an Oltre this year. Don’t regret it in the slightest though...
Evening all 👋
Hi 👋
@@PetrolPed great video. You've got an awesome bike there 👏👍
Nice presentation. Beautiful Bianchi
Thanks a lot. She’s my baby 😜👍
my dream bike! 🚲😎
Finally 👍👏🚴
Indeed 😂
@@PetrolPed I bet that 1st ride was amazing 🚴🏻♂️
I haven’t ridden it yet 😮
Disks Ped. Xr4 on super. Not even into Campag but this is something special.
It's a super bike!
My mate has the same bike in Black. Amazing bike 🚴
Nice 👍
That's a brilliant video of a brilliant bike build. Please don't get stuck in the pedals, fall off then scratch it 😉🤣😉
You are such a nasty person, Pete is obliged to wear full body armour to protect himself & his hairy legs to keep this series rock'n & you're worried about the bike? 😉
Damn I watch the podcast 😳 starting now 😉
😂😂😂
Ayop bud, love the content
Thanks 🙏🏻
Hello buddy, loving the colour, real nice piece of engineering pal.
You forgot the mud guards and lights!! 😱😱😃😃😃😃😃£13000+…😱😱😱😱😬😬😬thank goodness I can’t ride one!! Enjoy it well Peter…ride safe! 😃😃😃
Doh…need to sort that 👍
@@PetrolPed I might have a set of Ever Ready lights from my three wheeler..only about 60 years old but the U2 batteries are hard work to get now! Ride well…don’t get mugged on it so do NOT ride it anywhere near a cycle path in Bristol…gangs await riders every day in horrible Bristol! 😱😱😬😬😬🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Wow, that was educational. My old boss has some amazing bikes in his collection but nothing like a hand built made to measure bianchi i(told him about this, and he says it’s his poster bike!). I hadn’t realised quite how much level of detail went into it - all cables running internally. It’d have been such a shame to have cut the frame to cut the frame to run the wires through - would be interesting, would your eye be drawn to where the break was?
I was joking about cutting the frame 😜
Hawt 🔥🔥🔥
Hi, I have a similar bianchi frame that I would like to restore but so far I have been struggling with choosing the right components. Would be helpful if you share which components did you equipped it with? Namely the cassett, the shift and the brakes.
👍👍
Took me a few minutes to type this, couldn't stop my eyes from watering after you said the price..
I'm surprised the bike has disc brakes?? I would have thought blocks would have been lighter?
The Oltre XR4 is one of the few frames you can still spec with rim brakes. However we choose discs for a number of reasons. Including better all round braking performance and the fact we wanted to run 28mm tubeless so needed the clearance 👍
if you need to replace a fork from a bianchi bike, you would go at a local dealer or contact bianchi direct?
Awesome video! I have a question. What size were those rear caliper bolts I can't find the size anywhere!! Would greatly appreciate the info. My build is very similar except I'm using just Record. Not super record.
Your right, it is a great video lol
cars and bikes on this channel :)
Yep 👍
Need to get that PPF'd and ceramic coated before you get any stone chips!
Straight to Dub Customs or Topaz 😂
@@PetrolPed Ceramic coating might be a reasonable idea, even the rims as you have discs. Too nice to take it out, hang it on the lounge wall!
Ich hatte die erste Serie des XR4. Schade gibt es die Einfarbige Version nicht mehr.
Blimey. My first house didn't cost that much.😁
I think I get it now....maybe. Great video (except the background music was so flat at times I literally cringed, although I see other comments who liked the futuristic key changes, so to each his own.) Am afraid while I can appreciate this I love my wheels to have a motor, whether it be two wheeled or four wheeled.
Music choice is always so hard 😬
Stunning bike, but it isn't as cool as my Raleigh Chopper I had when I was a kid...
I’d love one of those 👍
Daft question but..
Could you get the whole thing PPF from a well known PPF / you tuber ?
Is it possible or even worth doing?
Listen to this coming Sundays podcast. We answer this question 👍
I was surprised, in a good way, the price of the bike. Not knowing anything about bikes I thought it was going to be beyond 15K.
What make and model is the saddle?
It’s a Bontrager VERSE Pro Carbon 👍
Light and comfy for the type of riding I do 👍
Thx v much!
Can you give me the model of the electronic shift that you are using? The one you connect via Bluetooth. I want to get me this set. Thanks a lot.
Sure. It’s called Campagnolo Super Recored EPS 👍
@@PetrolPed thanks a lot.
@@PetrolPed Fantastic build mate, Bianchi/Campagnolo👌🏼
What's most interesting about this is theses key skills are still in the UK. It's only a hand built bike because some Jock hand built it.
I hope those Michelin tyres are pilot sport 4s 😂
weight?
The Eps is already worth £4k
😬😜
I wouldn’t spend 13k on a car let alone a push bike
This is the road bike equivalent of a high end Supercar 😬
early adopters at its finest
No petrol ere mate. Make another channel for god sake.
There is a big cross over between cars and bikes. I like to bring as nice mix of content to the channel. I know some of it won't be for everyone but just read some of the comments below. In fact making this particular video was a huge challenge and I learn much that will help with the making of even better car content ;-)
@@PetrolPed I Appreciate the cinematography thats always hard work so yes well done. Theres great courses for that on Skill share…. 🤣 No seriously I’ll just avoid the cycle stuff job done. Your other stuff is ok so keep up the good work in that area. P.S take care on two wheels please I don’t want that taking you away from the car videos you know. Love
