    Pretty excited to be sharing this one with you guys. I've been selectively editing my instagram posts and even the shoe review from the other day to try and get a my head around this bike before I "unveiled it" to you.
    With that said, I really hope you get involved in the conversations we talk about here, like the brakes and bike weight, can't wait to see what your opinions (and guesses) are.
    Finally guys, a few of you will spot I am back on the PC8. Simple reason for that is the lack of great mounts available with these handlbars. I found the PC8 Rec Mounts one of ebay to be the best so far, their Wahoo version was slop, so the bolt is sitting in the drawer until I find something better

    Well done Chris, down-to-earth review which is what we the viewers want. DM brakes? Love em and they are all that you said. Definitely in the dry and on alloy rims they rival discs. Even on carbon rims they are awesome (depending on the rim) and mean you don't have to consider discs IMHO. In the wet its a different game.

    I wander if your experience will be the same as mine. Been riding the 2018 Team-E Merida (which has the same cockpit) for the last 12 months and I cant get enough of it. It enables me to get into an aero position for much longer and actually feel comfortable and enjoy it. Especially love the handling and how responsive it is in crits. BUT unfortunately there is one but, if you have a good road bike that you are use to climbing in you will discover that you allways opt for that bike if your ride has lots of climbs. By the way absolutely love that Bianchi but would like to see it with a nice set of areo wheels. Great vid by the way.

    It'd be an interesting comparison of the Specialissima vs XR4 at a tight crit course like Heffron. Riding hilly road races, I prefer my Specialissima road frame but riding crits, I prefer the stiffer, aero frame. Maybe a comparison of what they feel like for sprinting would be cool for us 'could have been' riders :-)

    Hi Chris, I am torn between the Sprint Ultegra disc and the XR3 Ultegra rim breaks. The other hesitation is the XR3 is a size 55, being right at 6ft I am not sure if that size might be a little small. I do have long legs. Any advise/opinions?

    • @ChrisMillerCycling

    • @martinth2529
      @martinth2529 Před 4 lety

      Chris Miller Cycling unfortunately no, but I live in Houston, TX and it’s pretty flat. We are at sea level. Occasionally I venture to Austin. The rim breaks I find them great. The only reason why I am considering the Sprint with disc breaks is because of the color Céleste. Here in the States, if I want the Ultegra groups et it’s only available on disc version. The XR3 is in Celeste, the only concern I have is the size. I can only get it in size 55. I am 6ft tall and not sure if I can make that size work for me. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you Chris.

    Hi Chris, I have an XR4 and have enjoyed riding it for the last 9 mths (after riding an focus izlco max). So I was interested to hear you take on the bike.
    I really like how you mentioned climbing in the saddle as I’ve found this too. Riding in a group and everyone pops up out of the saddle, while I’m seated. I’ve been thinking “it’s me” rather then the bike. So it’s got to be something about the position, cause it’s definitely more comfortable.
    I do think it maintains ‘cruising speed’ very well, even if it requires a kick to get there.
    I’ve got eebreaks, and yes, with the vision5d bars, it was a nightmare to get everything dialed in. took me maybe 3-4mths. That said, I’m feeling more and more at one with the bike, and even thou it’s been nearly a year, and with all the new bright shiny bikes are being released, I’m still pretty happy with it.

    I would be very interested in knowing two things: the first; how does the bike handle downhill cornering? is it easy to hold your line through the corner or does it tend to over-steer? and secondly is it easier or harder for You Chris, to fall off ( sorry, cannot resist my little jokes) . Which reminds me, you really need to have some tube bandaging in your first aid kit. It is much easier and far more comfortable to ride, post accident, with a netted tube bandage. 6.3kg

    Good review here’s my take every old school traditional frame I have owned ridden rides better in terms of handling climbing , I.e c60, supersix evo , and now the Mack daddy the speciallisima, but bike industry needs to keep innovating and advertising to make us want the latest looking cool frame etc , having lived in Italy for some years and done a lot of riding with ex pros who the majority of them own evo hi mod or speciallisima clearly agree the speciallisima does most things better than the xr4 , I own a speciallisima but have ridden the xr4 on numerous occasions for me the speciallisima is a better bike no doubt , always look at wheel at ex pros ride as they no longer have sponsor or obliged to say there sponsors bike is the best , and to be honest most guys on the hi mod and lots on speciallisima, the evo hi mod is a fucking beast aswell by the way

    If you want braking supremacy, go disc! You can thank the mountain bike set for that little gem. All weather, all conditions, carbon wheels, they just kill everything. Direct mount is part way to 'vee brakes' which went out of favour a little while ago on mountain bikes. That being said, most of the time you don't need discs, but when you need 'em, nothing else comes close! Guessing the weight of the new steed is a little over 7, let's say 7.3kg.

    • @richardburns5925
      @richardburns5925 Před 6 měsíci

      Rim brakes are far better, lighter, easy to adjust, last longer, don't squeal, don't overheat, also a rim brake bike is more responsive due to the rear stay being shorter than a disc version.
      Discs brakes are a marketing ploy to sell us a new bike, refering to vee brakes, I had them on a Halfords Carrera in the mid 90s, the bike stopped on a sixpence 👍

With ENVE tubulars SES I added 1.5 km/hr, which for an amateur elite finally pushed me steady over 40 km per hour long bursts which zipp firecrest could never do as they snake too much with a high angular momentum..

      Only figuring it’s not a straight out climbing bike and aero bikes tend to be over the 7 kilo mark

      Thanks for the feedback Jeff. You might be right, I do like the direct mount brakes, maybe check out the follow up review I did a few months after this one. A little more detail to it.
