  • Amazing device that uses a circular saw as a panel saw.
    I made a manual panel saw with a parallel link for easy clamping.

    • @AERuffy
      @AERuffy Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thats my problem with it. It's too expensive for what it is. If you're tearing down panels over and over again then a panel saw is faster. But for the home DIYer a tracksaw will have more use for roughly the same cost.

    • @Phazaar
      @Phazaar Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@AERuffy Until you said 'same cost as a track saw' I was in my head saying 'YEAH BUT IT'S THE SAME COST AS A TRACK SAW!' A vertical panel saw comes in at ~£15k, it's seriously hard to come by one that doesn't need 16' of wall space when you're likely not wanting more than 8' of capacity, whilst a sliding table saw will be about half that cost, but take up even more space and provide a ton of handling challenges, whether you're a DIYer or a pro. Being able to make this for 5% of those costs, to your own specifications, fitted to your own costs is why it's worth it.
      I couldn't justify a full size panel saw, and in fact tend to rip boards in half with a track saw. Things then slow down a lot when you need to cut a bunch of lengths of 600mm width as you can't use a mitre saw, can't have a table saw big enough to do this safely (and again, radial arm saws are massive). As soon as I clear a little spare wall space though, a 600mm capacity version of this will save me hours of repetitive crosscuts, and probably retire my mitre saw too. Can't see how it isn't worth it really.

      I bought an old panel saw in 1990 from a bankrupt lumber yard. I fot the pansaw, a radial arm saw, a table saw, and one hundred used 7.25, 10, 12 and 14 in saw blades. All for 500.00$ American. Sharpened the blades, mounted the panel saw, sold the table saw, and radial arm saw for 500 each. I've gone through a Dewalt circular saw every 2 years. The last one I bought was a Chicago Electric from Harbor Freight.

    This is genius and i could see great use for it especially for hardware stores that don't provide a cutting service for sheet material as the other versions of the type of wall mounted saw wouldn't be as safe as this one is due to the blade being exposed the whole time. Therefore insurance is usually the problem. But with this one, its super clever and a hell of a lot safer so I'd imagine insurance wouldn't be as expensive. You deserve all the views and likes you get, master creator. Respect

  • @TomSilver_42
    @TomSilver_42 Před rokem +1

    That clamping mechanism using simple parallelogram is clever. Not sure about riving knife being used to move a saw around, but it could be OK-ish as I guess you set your counterweight flawlessly so forces will be minimal. Tilting is very nice addon. But what I'm not so sure I like is access to the saw and depth of cut adjustment. As your other panel saw with circular saw on front side allows you to not just format panel materials, but also to scribe and cut groves in them, as it gives more control over the saw settings. Maybe I just missed some hidden lead-screw to set depth of cut here. Nevermind, I like your design style clean definition and videos straight to point.

      I understand where you are coming from, but any panel saw you can buy off the shelf would cost much more than the materials to make this. Also, just because he built it a specific way doesn't mean you have to, maybe you can cut cost by altering the design a bit? Those sliding rails aren't super expensive either.

      Most of the aluminum rails and brackets could be replaced with wood. The aluminum just makes acquiring long straight pieces simple for the project. I'd probably laminate plywood together where needed.

    Nice work! I thought about making one of those for my shop until I saw the Festool Trac-Saw. Once an affordable version came out I bought it. A panel saw would be great if I had the space.

    Beautiful design and execution. I was wondering what is the benefit of a panel saw compared to using a track saw or a straight edge. It seems easier to me to cut on an horizontal surface.

      A panel saw is going to be great if all you need are perpendicular [ T ] cuts across your work material. A track saw gives you the added benefit that those cuts can be along any angle across [ / / ] your material. Additionally, the track saw can be set to cut a bevel where a track saw cannot. A track saw has the material horizontal versus the panel saw with it more vertical. This means a track saw requires more shop space for cutting. Hope this helps.
