Great to hear James up around a solid 45% for the Westworld theme this week.
Spoiler alert much😆
oh my god it’s the weekly planet
3 minutes in. already laughing my head off.
"Jonathan Nuemonicthan!!! Get over here!!" 🦂
scorpion reference? idk, i'm tired as Maso
maybe it's a great thought! I bet you don't care though
(and that's fine. reject my genious)
I don’t know why Mason thinks Golden Age Superman came to Earth as an adult. He’s always arrived as a baby, as far back as Action Comics #1.
Omniman probably on his mind when he's thinking superman archetype
@@xavmanisdabestest or maybe Milestone’s Icon, since they were discussing black Superman stories.
original radio show influence
It’s fine. We all know that it’s canon that Mason has never been wrong.
I guess the Golden age Superman becomes Superman as an adult (there's no Superboy)
15:06 "Ant-man Van? Ant-Van. Transam. Dracula Aerial teeth."
The tangents James goes on
Minutes after this was uploaded to YT they released the Venom 2 trailer lmao
Sony would do that
Are these getting shorter? Do I have to buy a Big Sandwich to get more Red Hot Comicbook Movie News, Shooting Up My West World?
I’m working through Jupiter’s Legacy, but it’s hard work at times. It would help if at least one person wasn’t such a downer. It’s just hard to get behind anyone. But I’m sticking with it, 2 episodes left.
D & B?
Fr I feel the same way. No one in this show is very enjoyable or charming at all. And like yeah ig that's a more grounded view but it Makes the show really feel like a drag
What about George. He was the stand out for me
@@deathboyinc Hutch was pretty cool
"..just a burnt out droid!" 😂😂😂😂😂
Imagine being that soldier on base listening to himself getting called out on this podcast. His mind is blown!
a couple of things, love James operating at 40% keep it up, and then I also love how in Jupiter’s Legacy when you’re in the past it’s full screen but then when you jump to the present the aspect ratio changes but idk what that ratio is lol, still cool tho
I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY CALLED IT, THERE WILL BE CARNAGE
Thanks for releasing the podcast earlier these days for those of us in Asia
I've watched two episodes of jupiters legacy, I'm finding it hard to get into..
I feel like the show would have benefited by releasing before invinsible..
Although I agree that superhero shows are getting pretty saturated rn, i think the show falls off mainly bc of its pacing
I agree M Jerry G
I watched the 3rd episode last night and they flip back and forth between the present and the past way too much, way too often IMO, without establishing much in either storyline.. and coming up way short of getting me invensted in anything or anyone..
I feel like I may like the daughter the most and they barely show her at all, maybe that is why I still think I like her..
may the force be with you
I'm definitely feeling some superhero fatigue. It feels like zombies 10 years ago...
Hello everybody.
Me: Hello James and Maso
The only thing I don’t like about the new Superman rumors is that imo Henry cavil is a perfect Superman
I think he could have been the perfect superman but the script and plot never really allowed him to shine. A near perfect casting choice was wasted on a really half baked superman imo.
@@xavmanisdabestest that's because Snyder doesn't understand or like superman. If Henry cavills superman was handled by a better director who liked the character or atleast understood that this is fiction and not to be taken so seriously then it could have worked and hopefully we will still get that in the future with Henry cavill
@@mattyt3625 Totally disagree. 'Man of Steel' just asked some serious questions about how people would react if they discovered a super-powered alien with questionable loyalty lived among us, and came up with some credible answers. He also showed us that Clark grows up having to hold back his entire life while douchebags try to provoke him. Why would anybody be surprised that he seems kind of withdrawn and pent-up at first? I could go on for ever, but I'll just leave it at this: just because Snyder created a Superman that didn't match your preconceptions doesn't mean that he "doesn't understand or like" Superman. On the contrary: you have to love a character to put so much thought into them.
@@AJeziorski1967 well I obviously disagree with your comment and I can say that you put more effort into trying to understand the film that Snyder himself made.
But also this isn't Clark Kent or superman. Clark Kent was raised by the Kent's, some of the greatest people on the planet. They are the reason that Clark Kent, superman, is the greatest hero in the world. It's about the man, not the powerset. That is something Snyder doesn't understand and he fucks this up by focusing more on the relationship between Clarks biological parent rather than his actual parents.
Also superman doesn't belong in a realistic setting and even if you were to put him in a realistic setting then you go the route of captain america. Have superman be himself, the hopeful aspirational character that he is in a world that doesn't believe that's real. Then you have the character challenge those who disagree with how he is by his words and actions. That would have been interesting and is actually something that happens in the Richard Donner superman film when superman says he's fighting for truth justice and Lois responds with a laugh and says "you'd be fighting every politician in the USA". He responds with "you don't really think that?" This can be seen as superman been naive but it's superman truly believing and sticking to his ideology that is perfect and that everyone would agree with, In a better world.
But like I said, superman doesn't belong in a realistic setting. The DC universe is a better universe them this one and it's important that we see that. So many stupid things have happened with the snyderverse because of the realistic setting.
And finally, yes. Snyder does hate superman. He rides Batman so hard in bvs and he kills off superman so that batman could lead the justice league. His plans for batman to get with Lois and have a child that Clark would raise to be batman? Are you high? That's some stupid bullshit that only a batman cocksucker would do. And that is what Snyder is.
@@mattyt3625 Hey, I'm always happy to discuss this. It's true I've thought a lot about this movie, as I do about every movie I love. I rewatched it for the sixth time a few nights back, and it's still great, looks amazing and the action setpieces are still thrilling, even when I know what's coming. But here's the thing: you don't have to make an effort to understand the film as I do. It's all there if you just pay attention. In every scene from Clark's childhood, he's being bullied, provoked or gossiped about. When he saves the busload of kids, the adult response is awed terror and more gossip. The Kents teach young Clark the only thing they can to prevent his presence from turning the world upside down: restraint. Eventually, when Pa Kent's gone, we see him lose that restraint on one, solitary occasion - where he wrecks the truck of the drunk who gropes his (implied) girlfriend and tries to start a fight with him. (But it's not like this is the first time we've seen Superman take some petty revenge on a bully in a diner. I don't recall anybody getting upset when he did the same thing in 'Superman II'.) Pa Kent tells him that one day it'll be time for him - as an adult who has his powers under control - to decide whether to stay hidden or to show himself to the human race. His mother tells him "you don't owe this world a thing" when she tells him it is his choice and his alone how to deal with his powers. How much more caring can a mother be? He chooses - freely - to be a hero. His first public act is to hand himself over to Zod to protect humanity. What's more heroic than that? I don't believe there's any reason at all not to tell a story about Superman in a realistic setting, showing all the consequences of having such a powerful being in a world populated by suspicious, flawed, scared people. I mean, I grew up with Curt Swan's Superman, saw the character for the first time as a five-year-old kid in a Fleischer cartoon on TV. That old Superman's great, in the right context. I love the first Chris Reeve movie - but the others are unwatchable. I loved the 90s animated series and the comics that sprung from it. But I think Superman as an idea is big enough to be interpreted in a lot of different ways, and he's always been important enough to me - ever since I was a kid - to take seriously. As for your comments about Snyder ... Well, they're both unjustified and uncalled for. You're simply wrong about that.
I enjoyed Jupiter's Legacy and I feel like the best part is how good Utopian's actor is during the 30's stuff. He genuinely looked like he could snap at any moment and when he did it felt real.
The scene on the boat where he calms down and realizes that he lost it for a second actually made me tear up
The Superman movie idea just sounds like Icon's origin
I had to pause and watch all of Jupiter's Legacy (because I didn't know anything about it, had to google it, still don't remember any of the character's names or the name of the show) and glad I'm came back to get some sense made of that low budget garbage haha. I can't STAND watching wigs for 95% of tv shows or movies. The old make-up was trash too hahaha. I didn't even mention the post-production slow motion. This is a CW show at best lol
"We're selling bags of chicken poop."
Truer words were never spoken.
Joker 2: Still Down to Clown
Not a large part of *Jupiter's Legacy,* but I enjoyed the portrayal of *Sampson's* rich friend, *George.* He certainly had a few affectations one might attribute to someone in that position during that period. But at his core he always remained a good friend. In the flashbacks, that was one thing he was never in conflict over.
I found myself far more interested in the flashbacks fairly quickly. But I have an affinity for that that period of time when it comes to speculative fiction, adventure and horror stories. Especially as it seemed almost _Lovecraftian_ at the start.
They did a horrible job showing WHY the code should be important. There was no super violent, gore-filled murders or anything. The kid punching that clones head in was not enough especially as he just murdered three people. Maybe that was on purpose but it made josh dummel*(?) incredibly unlikable in the present day stuff.
Jonathan Mnemonathan
Good day, you early birds
Good day Sprokitt66!
Hey. 👋
I wrote out a massive paragraph about why you shouldn't black wash certain characters but I think this video on the topic explains most of my issues with it.
czcams.com/video/TFKmzxNhbKU/video.html
Only thing i would add is in some situations having a different coloured character changes that characters narrative completely. If captain America started off black or black panther was white their colour because of their time in history and geographical location becomes a huge part of their character and fundamentally changes beats in their story. Which means it's not the same character you're just using the template of the iconic one. In which case create a new one or shine light on a character that already exists.
Dear Maso, I watched Tenet with subtitles, and it was just as fucking annoying as everyone said it was, even with subs. Its a massive budget student film that thinks its really clever. The Protagonist, indeed!
What I'm not understanding about these "new" Superman rumors is that they're not new. we heard these Superman rumors about 4 months ago. Seems like everyone forgot that they were talking about Michael B Jordan being Superman already.
I liked Jupiter’s Legacy but it was very messy and seemed unorganized.
Venom 2: There will be Carnage trailer just dropped and it looks both surreal and dumb as fuck, i cant wait.
The first one was dumb as fuck too and thats what made it amazing. Sony really though they were out here making a scary edgy super villain horror flick, but accidently created the most wonderful love story between a man and his alien parasite
@@jazzycat8917 On point lmao, It truelly is beautiful and strange. Venoms silly cookie monster voice gets me too, sounds a slight cut above a stupid voice youd put on to make yourself laugh and takes the movies further into unintentional farce territory (along with the tom hardy's insane, nonsense line delivery)
Thx didn't know it was out
I enjoyed this podcast, so I pressed the button with the thumb turned upwards. Am I internetting right?
Yes, except only one T in interneting. Sorry to be that guy.
YOU MAD FOOL YOU'VE DOOMED US ALL!!!!!!
Indeed
Having been treated so well by Invincible and other Marvel fare the last few weeks, I felt this show was slow, predicatable and bloated. If it had come out last year or two it might have held my attention (still watched to the end). I didn't hate it but I can't see myself coming back for season 2. Cliffhanger entirely underwhelming.
Spoiler-y bit below
Referring to the magic rod, there was a scene of the early heroes claiming their spots at the super-table where they say the magic rod was given as part of the Island Transformation
I don't know how I feel about the show, everybody just acts so dumb.
Funniest thing was when they said they went through hell to get powers and than all it was was them screaming at each other on the island xdd
Also the scene when walt, george and shell put away their differences so that they can open the gate, accept they obviously didn't. Those aliens had some looow standards xd
Are you crazy Mason?? Binging made this show much better. The mystery was intriguing , but it would have been the WandaVision let down all over. You can take your time if you're not that into it or power through it if you like it. I think that the build up to the island was good, but the island itself was weak. I got hung up on Lady Liberty(Grace??)in the past. The actress is too old. In the present she looks younger than Sheldon. No way a late 30ish woman is single and working at a newspaper in the 1920's.
Clone wars already retconned Ahsoka and rex's order 66 experience from 2 different cannon sources (rebels and the ahsoka novel), so why wouldn't the bad batch continue the trend
is it mason that does the jingle at the start
I like the old time parts more.
YOO - longtime fan, 1st request ever: YES PLEASE DO TENET, TRYING TO REALLY CONCENTRATE ON EXPLAINING THE WHOLE TIME. PLS. please, please.
I want to meet Don Jon Cheadle
Joker 2: Still Jokin about
Joker 2: Still Bathing the Elderly - *JOKER STUFF!*
Sounds like the show had similar problem as Arrow where most of the issues have to do with the island
Aha, my b-hole was feeling ignorant of RHCB-TV News this morning. This should help.
I'm afraid I will be incontinent and internally burned from all this RHCB-TV News.
Love the show gents but I gotta say, it usually takes me two to three days to clean out all of the news what been shot up my butthole. You should think about a delivery system more akin to a suppository rather than a violent gunshot, maybe.
The joker sequel
Joker 2: Joke control
do they do other podcasts beside weekly planet ?
James has a less successful pod cast with his wife called, Suggestible
They do a weekly review series called Caravan of Garbage. They also do an exclusive podcast every week on their premium service Big Sandwich. And James has a podcast with his wife called Suggestible.
they really could've had Doctor Strange just show up at the end of WandaVision and have him arrest take Agatha away to a more magically secure prison than just leaving her brainwashed
Arrest Agatha and Scarlett Witch*
Or, here's a crazy thought...
He's just not in it.
I'd really prefer it if you didn;pt mix show and comic spoilers. I get that it's hard to parse but TV spoilers and Comic spoilers are 2 different things. Still love ya.
They’re doing there best lad it’s nbd
It's pretty much impossible to discuss something based on comics without talking about the comics too
Why doesn't Mason call himself Mr Monday Movies? You know not as good as Sunday
They're not Power Rangers, you know.
Johny Numonic Caravan of Garbage so Maso can make that joke again
👍👍
It's heavily hinted at that alien's are kinda changing humans cause there a chapter were skyfox and blue blot come across a town being abducted by alien's the alien's knock them out and everyone Wakes not remembering a thing
"Look at his weak heart! So cringe!"
Barring one extremely boring episode, I liked Jupiter's Legacy. Now that they have the first "volume" done I hope the showrunner(s) take a look at what worked and what didn't and make some refinements. Loved the flashback stuff. Hated watching scene after scene of The Utopian lecturing people.
Oh boy, you guys .... Seriously, where did you get the idea that Golden Age Superman came to Earth as an adult?? I've read a ton of Golden Age reprints and I guarantee you that he was always sent to Earth as a baby and brought up by the Kents. No wonder you and I disagree so often about Superman stuff! ('Man of Steel' is a brilliant movie, btw.)
Ani? Lil Ani?
Yeah wandavison totally wouldnt end with dr strange saying what scarlett witch did was justified.......... they made a new character to do that instead
I really love Jupiter's Legacy and I'm into the route their taking Brandon (Utopian's son) right now, I love the idea of the passing of the torch to a younger generation that wants to dO good mostly because I'm so K and tired of emo kids who are mad at their parents for not being there most of their lives we had it in Superman and Lois and now we're having it here and I'm sick of it
Boomers on speakerphone isn't really a problem. The real problem is people with no fixed address blasting their Bluetooth speakers as they walk out into traffic.
Please no more origin movies for fantastic 4, superman, batman, & Spiderman. EVER!
I don't mind with blade because there has only been one incarnation in movie form
Never! We MUST see yet another shot of Martha Wayne's pearls cascade dramatically in slow motion down the bloodstained pavement
I don't mind if the new superman is "Clark Kent" because it will be a completely different take on the character, the same way it happened with "Joker" and instead of taking about mental health they will probably are going to talk about what it would happen if superman was black in the 50s.
Ta-Nehisi Coates is not gonna write the basic Clark Kent who grows up on a farm and just copy and paste the Superman the Movie version lol. I’m not worried about the story, but the actor/director could make or break it. Eli Goree and Regina King would be my ideal duo.
Coates is a hack
We need a crossover event with Weekly Planet and Internet Today.
Please don't do TeneT idt i could even listen to someone watch that again....the pain....there is a reason it almost killed the theatres
Are you kids going to cover The Nevers? It’s some faux comic book Victorian X-Men nonsense that’s decent (and it could/will probably get better.)
I don't know why DC keeps tripping over their own dick when it comes to making superhero movies. Either get a competent producer to helm an actual cinematic universe or just let talented creatives helm their own separate projects. This whole "Well some things are in our Cinematic Universe and some things aren't and some things are from the old cinematic universe and some of them aren't." bullshit is out of control and is only going to confuse people.
I hate that they're actually following through with a black Superman movie. A thousand actually black superheroes, alot of which were MADE BY BLACK PEOPLE, and they'd rather just do YET ANOTHER superman. God WB are such cowards it's incredible to me.
Val-Zod is a really cool character and not just a rehash of Clark Kent.
@@mrbatman3008 but he is a rehash of superman. Nothing against him or val zod but there are other people in DC not connected to batman, superman or the joker.
@@BigPlayG93 He is Superman he’s but that doesn’t mean you can’t tell a compelling story about the new Superman after the death and/or retirement/new gods shenanigans of Clark Kent
marvel over here at least trying and DC still doing the absolute bare minimum still for some reason aha as if theres anything left to lose on their end.
@@mrbatman3008 of course. You can tell a compelling story about ANYTHING. So why not other non superman/batman connected stories. They cancel new gods and the trench in favor of yet another superman. It's frustrating
There are good black Superman comics.. why is it so hard for wb just to use what they have.. I mean DC is great but wb is not creative and shouldn't try to be
Jupiter's legacy was so bad...
Mr sunbag movies and nick artisan strike again
I can only handle so much good guys dying. I loved invincible, but I'm still not over ep 1, and Ned starks death and the red wedding still haunt me. I dunno if I can watch this Jupiter thing.
Ahh, America dealing with a black man having the power of a God, y'know, a classic Superman story.
I found Jupiters Legacy a bit boring only enjoying the 1930 parts and after listening to you guys talking about the comics I would preferred the series to stick more to the source material and ending the season with the death of Utopian
I'd love to see a Black Superman, but please WB/DC, don't make him Clark Kent. There's absolutely no reason to. It'd just reek of desperate PC-pandering and exploitation of the current climate by a corporation, and no one will win with that. It'd be nothing more than tokenism and as cringe-worthy as making Bruce Wayne Asian (as an Asian I say, "No thank you"). If they really want to do this new Superman justice, they need to give him his own identity from the ground up.
The most boring show I have seen in my life. I can't believe how this show was green lit, the pointless attempts at mystery expands the void in my heart. There is a huge hole between my chest and I can feel the breeze going through it.
A story told by a loud commuter in the bus on the daily way to work is more interesting that unispiring trope littered pile of garbage TV.
Sometimes I search on youtube ''jupiter's legacy review'' and if it's possitive, I block them. It's not my fault they have no taste. Maybe where they are from they watched trees moving in the wind for entertainment and they are amazed by colors and moving pictures on the screen. But who am I to judge them ? I don't matter, I don't exist, I'm the part of the internet that everyone disagrees, In an attempt of fun degrees, my soul gets devoured by an unhealable disease, fractures in the superhero passion overseas, riding the verbal breeze like fleas.
There are good black Superman comics.. why is it so hard for wb just to use what they have.. I mean DC is great but wb is not creative and shouldn't try to be
Steel and Icon are ready for their big screen appearances
I'm still hoping against hope that they go with Val-Zod. Brilliant origin story, still allows for there to have been a previous Clark Kent/Superman. Handing the shield to Sam Wilson worked for Captain America, the Spiderverse story works beautifully to give us Miles Morales, there's no reason why they couldn't make something similar work here. I think that would give fans of the traditional Superman less of a need to complain.
