from Arrested Development, "and imagine the impact if that had come on right when we turned on the TV!"
Community in the episode where they’re telling horror stories. Abed’s story there’s a radio announcement of an escaped killer, but not until after several minutes of music that Abed hums while telling the story. This tune comes back again and again throughout the series
'The Wiz', James, is a musical. The movie you're thinking of is 'The Wizard'. Credibility... destroyed
Michael Jackson did have the moonwalker game tho...
Again, Wilson? Spidey, Daredevil, AND Mr. Sunday? You've gotta pick one nemesis.
If this movie is the one I suddenly recalled last week due to part of the movie having something to do with a movie being made and lightsabres: then its a bit of a wierd series of meaningless coincidences.
Its not that movie but I saw the wizard about the time I saw my movie mystery
My wife is a teacher and has said the whole "teaching to the bell" thing annoys her. So many tv shows and movies where the teacher is mid-sentence as the bell rings.
My teachers always said "the bell is for me, not for you".
i'm a mathematician, and when the mathematician scientist genius type is working on a blackboard and the formulas are either the most basic things you would never write down or totally unrelated to their alleged field. takes me out every time
39:20 - There's a gag about this in one of the Community episodes because Abed is complaining about how breaking news always plays at convenient times so they have to sit and listen to the radio for a few minutes until it comes on. It's a solid bit.
If you listen carefully. James admits to why he was fired from teaching.

I always get taken out of the film whenever a character does that wormhole explanation where they fold a piece of paper in half and poke a pen through it.

Seriously though, they said probably close to a year ago at this point that they were doing Avatar stuff for Caravan of Garbage, so where is it?
@@Meme_Lor they mentioned they have one recorded and will release it either when they are off for a week, or to coincide with an Avatar Netflix series. Hear Weekly Planet CZcams Superman & Lois from March 1 at 27:30

I thought if I went into a bar in Melbourne and said “beer” I would be handed a Fosters. Did those commercials lie to me?!
Yes. I used to work at the first bar in Australia to have ever served Fosters and even they don't keep it around for legacy's sake. Literally nobody drinks it, it's purely an export.
Only alcoholics drink fosters in my part of Europe because its so cheap
Try it. See what happens. Report back to us.
Yes
Every time characters handle coffee cups or drink from coffee cups, and it is obvious from how they handle it that the cup is empty.
In the uk a canned beer would be described as cracking open a cold one with the boys
Do Peter Jackson’s King Kong for caravan of garbage
I've heard many people say the best anime english dub is Cowboy Bebop.
I prefer the English dub to One Punch Man as well.
Yay for the Toy Galaxy CZcams love. Dan and his crew do a great job.
now i really want to see Zack Snyder's Tom & Jerry.
Release the cut
Everyone says that about Tom & Jerry. ”Tom's dark.” I’m like, okay, ”No, Tom's cool.” He gets to go to Spike's house and be trained by dogs. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.
I'd rather watch that than either of the options being given.
Goggles and abs BABYYY
"Do not listen to our advice, go on CZcams." Um... that's how I found your advice.
“I don’t want to be painted blue no, I got kids I don’t have time for it” - Benedict Cumberbatch 🤣👏🏽
Those kids have got to eat, though. Take one for the team, Cumberbatch.
When they say the title of the film/TV show in the actual show. Drives me mad.
Your life must be incredibly easy.
@@ElMoShApPiNeSs I feel like you've missed the point of this vid.
The reason why widescreen exists is that they learned to film on 16:9 and compress it vertically to give a wider sense of space. Based on how the light is registered, you're not losing any information in widescreen compared to 16:9. Justice League was filmed on 4:3 IMAX film, which gets a taller sense of space. The theatrical cut was cropped to 16:9, which has less information. I'd equate the black bars on the left and right of 4:3 IMAX to the black bars on the top and bottom of widescreen: there are less pixels on your screen, but it's not about how many pixels there are; it's about what valuable information those pixels represent. But let's say that you watched the film in 1080p. If it were widescreen, it'd be 1920*800 = 1536000. It's 4:3, so it's 1440*1080 = 1555200. 4:3 not only takes full advantage of IMAX's sense of space, but if all you care about is how many pixels there are, it even has more pixels than widescreen. Just thought that I'd explain that since you keep complaining about the aspect ratio. Really big fan of your channels.
The worst one for me is trackers that beep and flash. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?!
You guys are too good, too smart for that one line in the opening. Otherwise, absolutely loooove the podcast. Thank you for your wonderful work.
I am avoiding Snyder cut spoilers like the plague at this point. i am really excited and hope for the best.
I'm going to do a Man of Steel and BvS: UE, JL:SC marathon on Saturday. I'm going to go on a full social media blackout on Thursday until I've seen it.
@@arch1017 nice, way to go
Some annoying tropes
“Uh what just happened??”
“Did that just happen??”
“How about in ENGLISH, brainiac?!?”
Or cliche high school/high schoolers
Cowboy Bebop would be a check for the dub category for me.
Samurai Champloo is great too, from the same people
@@coltonfox8493 whenever sub v dub gets brought up, I immediately turn to Bebop but you're totally right! Champloo is really well done.
@@edakra369 Yeah I usually prefer subs over dubs but Steve Blum is the exception. Samurai Champloo introduced me to the music of Nujabes so I'm eternally grateful to that show 🙏
The thing you’re talking about with terminator throwing Sarah Connor is called a “protagonist throw” and it is in everything. Once you know about it every movie sucks. Forever.
I can relate to the "recognize a lamdmark"
The end credits scene in Infinity War, I know exactly which street in Atlanta that was filmed on so it's hard to remember that was supposed to be New York.
Rowan Atkinson has an extensive collection of fast cars, and by all accounts is pretty damn good at driving them. Goodwood regular and top gear lap leader for a while (:
"Spit takes" take me out of movies. Whenever I've been startled by something, I didn't spit the water out, it usually went down the wrong pipe and I immediately started choking
One small detail that I really don't like, is when sequels in a series reuse music tracks from previous entries, and expect to invoke the same emotions as it did the last time. I'm not talking about big theme songs, which should obviously carry over between movies, I'm talking about music that was clearly composed for a specific scene or moment in a previous movie, and the studio just reuses it and hopes no-one will notice. An egregious example of this is how Endgame reuses the exact same music as when Gamora dies for its own Vormir scene. It's lazy, it draws me out of the experience, and it more than often than not just emphasises to me how inferior this particular entry is compared to the previous one.
Thanks for the Canada plug there at the end, boys
It's funny coming back to this after Will Poulter got cast as Adam Warlock, he is very much a young Zac Effron type so I guess Illuminerdy were right with their scoop?
The 'Dance Hacking' Scene from Swordfish
It wasn't a Ferrari he crashed his McLaren F1 TWICE! A very very very expensive car which he repaired and sold for £8Million now probably worth double that
I remember some years ago hearing that Weird Al was excited about getting a new Porsche Boxster...and sorta feeling the opposite of that.
10:30 This scene was the kids, Monica, and Ralph attempting to get the Darkholt. Why Ralph was there is a curious question.
I had a split second of confusion where I thought you were referencing the movie 'A Christmas Story'...Ralph is not a name heard much in media these days, I'm realizing.
51:09 “slab of tinnies” my fav part from this episode... I fuckin love you guys
Maybe it's been brought up before, but for me it ruins a movie or TV show when there's a SWAT or some kind of strike team coming to storm a 'compound', (BTW, we need to see the main characters' faces, so they don't need any helmets, do they?), and like 20 seconds before they kick down the door they lay out the entire plan, including why they're here at all, who's the bad guy, the justification to kill him, plus cracking a joke or two before putting their lives on the line...
there's a well-placed Wilhelm Scream in "Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Warerabbit" that made me laugh despite the trend being overplayed at this point
Totally agree regarding ridiculous cpr and resuscitation. Oh…. Also when they defibrillate people in non shockable rhythms like asystolle (flatline). Or when they yell out higher numbers while defibrillating. In realty with modern biphasic defibrillators, it’s always 200.
For me it's when military members wear covers (hats) indoors. This is seen as disrespectful in the American military and no one does it.
If you choose to sign up to the military you're disrespecting yourself
Yeah, I agree. First reactions really don't mean anything. Suicide Squad had positive reactions. And recently Captain Marvel & Wonder Woman '84. Especially WW84. I saw nothing but "This is the movie we need right now'' and "It's a feel good movie"
FLCL (the original first season) has very good dubs - to the point that I will quote lines from it, stop, and strive to recall the source. "Is that my fault?"
I've noticed that 555 numbers are now 555-01 numbers, and they only have a hundred to choose from in that range. e.g. I've seen 555-0192 and 555-0183 come up a lot.
Small detail for me which happens in video games too is someone finding an alien weapon or artefact they've never seen or touched before but instantly know how to use it
Oddy enough there are bars in Melbourne that have a beer brand called beer that is more expensive reserved just for customers that ask for a beer.
I always notice when Greenwich, where I'm from, suddenly appears in a movie. It happens an extraordinarily large amount of times.
My biggest pet peeve with movies and tv shows is a character who is holding a controller that is obviously off
“He might’ve used it in memento”
“AH! I can’t remember anything!”
I’m dead
That's funny I just got into Toy Galaxy this weekend as well lol
I must confess it may be the fault of a bias because I used dubs in my introductory watch, but I really love that version of My Hero Academia, and prefer it to the subs version.
The shoulder blade thing is just for kids I think. My dad "saved" both me and my brother with the heimlick, and they taught it to me like 3 yrs ago.
No aspect ratio change is as bad as in 'Star Trek Insurrection', where due to a production error Camera 1 was set up in 16:9 ratio and Camera 2 in 14:9. This changes from shot to shot in every scene throughout the entire film.
Could you link that site for commentary please
I usually watch all of my Anime in subs, because it's a good resource to learn to speak Japanese. However hearing phil hartman performance in kiki's delivery service as Jiji is awesome.
As someone who's spent a lot of time coaching, playing, and watching sports (track & field in particular), the thing that instantly takes me out of a movie is when a character is supposed to be impressively fast or athletic, but the actor clearly has no hand-eye coordination or terrible running form.
I feel the same with dancing. They try to hide it with lots of cuts and weird angles.
1:18:12 Did you just say "Jazz Sax-OFF-inist?"
Best theme ever. DON'T CHANGE IT
Lights inside space suit helmets illuminating characters face. 🙄
Would a completely invisible face in a space suit for a whole movie make for great cinema?
Cowboy bebop's dub is amazing
Im pretty sure the creator has said that the english voices are the canon voices of those characters
Small detail: anytime a bottle or glass is thrown down, there's that generic glass breaking sound.
A scene from The Patriot comes to mind🤔
Just watched Small Soldiers and I rolled my eyes at the EMP
Having been in the Army, grenades causing big, fiery explosions is so fake and it kills me.
I love that NCIS clip, it’s in the first season and I was binging it during quarantine and I just laughed when I saw that.
Slab of tinnies had me rolling 🤣
Kids acting like adults is the one thing that pisses me off. It’s the only thing that annoyed me about The Last of Us because she wasn’t acting like a kid at all
Maso and James talking about Train's discography is possibly the oddest thing I've ever heard on Weekly Planet.
I just woke up from a ten year coma yesterday, full disclosure.
Baccano!
has an amazing dub because they actually gave people different accents relative to what their characters would have.
I heard about the Justice League / Tom & Jerry mix-up days late. And I did turn on and then watch about 15 minutes of T&J to see what would happen. Just in case...
I fucking hate it when a person is taken hostage, and they carry on acting like a hostage when no one else is around, just so the twist later is that they're in on it!!!!!!!
It annoys me in movies when someone is on a cell phone and the other person hangs up and there's a dial tone... there are no dial tones on cell phones lol
When the cabling is perfect in data centers / computer rooms. That's not the case in even the most high end companies!
Terence Stamp, the actor in the acclaimed movie The Haunted Mansion?!
It's a case of beer. Or sixpack. This is actually where the term for abs come from- they look like six cans of beer in one of those plastic ring things that kill turtles. Also, it's iroooonic... cuz beer drinkers don't usually have sixpacks. They have cases. (that's a box of like 24 cans. Of beer.)
Kill la kill has a really nice dub. The voices so over the top and fits with the shows insane animation and story. The comedic timing is surprisingly great as well.
props to toy galaxy that this great channel mention your work. It's deserved.
Toy galaxy gave them a shoutout? Good on Dan. Been listening to these 2 for 6 years.
@@angbald opposite day. Mason talked about toy galaxy
Walking into my local and asking "a beer" doesn't get you questions, it just gets you a Guinness.
I'm surprised James didn't mention the toy galaxy video about his favorite..... DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH
I tend t Mix and Match with Subs and Dubs. Really story heavy stuff i tend to stick with Subs but for the standard Shōnen with a lot of action on the screen i tend to go with Dubs. And then there's stuff like RE:Zero where i watch the Sub and then the Dub when it's out.
Space Dandy and Cowboy Bebop have pretty stellar dubs, and Naruto of course
The Birds has a great cigarette smoking scene. Tippi Hedren sits on a bench outside a school and lights up a cigarette. Behind her, unnoticed, the birds gather on a climbing frame. The length of the cigarette ash and children singing mark the passage of time in the scene.
I love Toy Galaxy! It's pretty cool to hear a CZcams that I regularly watch talk about another CZcams that I regularly watch! It's CZcams inception!
hacking without a mouse is way more realistic if you've ever coded lmao, you run software sure but you will probably do it via the terminal
James trying to do the wilhelm scream made me choke on my bong rip.
Literally a combination of words never before to be existing.
Didn't get a full "grab dat gem" in the end.
If Christopher Nolan has the Wilhelm Scream in any of his movies, it's probably slowed down and in reverse.
There are Pandora shops in the UK, or is he talking just in Australia?
About to head to work to start a new job and I'm freaking nervous😬 wish me luck guys thanks for distracting me
For me it's inaccurate gunplay in films that take me out of it. The sound of gun charging should only happen at the start or when magazines are swapped out. The worst is when it happens 3 times in a scene when no shots have actually been fired. That and endless magazines (and calling magazines "clips").
Edit: also Tony Soprano playing with his food and never actually taking a bite.
Best dubs are, cowboy bebop and samurai champloo, both 25ish episodes each ( Hulu) full metal alchemist brotherhood, 4 seasons. Best dubbed movie is Spirited away (HBO max)
Space Battleship Yamato...The most recent version that came out a couple years ago… The dubs are quite good. Also I have trouble reading subtitles because I read it faster them the actors or animated character say it so it kind of takes me out of the show.
its always jarring for me when in an animated movie or tv show when a background character is played by a recognizable voice actor, in avatar most of the male side characters are voice by robin from teen titans and it throws me for a loop every time
Cowboy Bebop is a classic anime and the dub is really good (I don't usually watch dubbed stuff so I wouldn't know any other ones, except for old school ones that I watched growing up)
I hate it in movies when they fuck up the continuity when they're eating. Caught it with a pancake in pretty woman 51:35, rodeo drive bb. sometimes whole bowls of cereal or pints just replinish.
Googled Luna Park, not disappointed
Anytime there's a fight on a highway, and EVERYONE keeps driving normal.
I don't know if you were being ironic when you said sunshine was yours and nicks favourite movie. But that's my favourite movie.
It was a slight joke, it's James favourite movie, he mentions it all the time
The designs of the New Gods characters in Zach Snyder's Justice League barely resemble Jack Kirby's designs. A great Justice League story involving Darkseid that would make an film epic would be an adaptation of a story from Grant Morrison's run on JLA, Rock of Ages.
Was watching the 13 th warrior yesterday and saw a backpack strap in the armpit of one of the characters that was spost to be a caveman...didn't know they had the technology
Crossover episode between The Weekly Planet and Toy Galaxy when??
