    Great job on the diagnosis. I like the magnetic wire holding vise. Also, it's the first time I hear about paste bond. I think I'll buy some. It's certainly much faster than soldering.

    Great video as always. If I would do the same repair, I would have to try to repair the existing wire instead of purchasing a new wire. The other thing is the soldering paste you used is a regular product used for surface mount PCBs for years. Thanks for upload. Regards,

    Nice diagnosis. I especially liked the vice for holding the wires for soldering. My only concern is the location of the air bag during the repair. For safety sake, I would disconnect the air bag and place aside with the appropriate side facing up.

    Other sources say to disconnect battery when working on airbag:the soldering was messy;should have put something underneath to catch the drips which otherwise might damage some surface

    Thanks for the valuable warning that wires affecting the airbag are Yellow. But why the heck did you keep that spare non-airbag horn contact wire with an all-Yellow wire? You could have covered it with a longer piece of that black shrink tubing. BTW, that *was* a clockspring problem, but luckily did not require a full replacement.

    Another way to test the circuit without using the button, is to lock the car multiple times. this will cause the BCM to turn on the horn.
    When dealing with ANYTHING that has to do the airbag system, disconnect the battery, and reconnect it electrical circuits need to be tested and airbags are in there place while testing. There was a guy some years ago that died because the airbag went off while he was testings stuff.
    An you could have just crimped a male spade terminal onto the wire, instead of splicing it.

    My issue was the turn signal metal pin was stuck and not making contact on the brass rings after I replaced my turn signal switch. I checked the relay and the horn fuse. They were good. After I took apart the steering wheel and the airbag assembly. I used the horn switch to test a 12v headlight to verify that switch was still good then I tested the horn function with another switch. After all that was good I came to conclusion that it was the turn signal switch that was faulty. Returned the faulty one and got a brand new one. problem fixed 😀😀

    I have a 2007 Chrysler sebring. my horn does not work when I try to press and blow it, but it works when I hit my alarm. could it be the clock spring?

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  Před 7 lety

      Yes, most likely. The fact that the horn will work when you hit the alarm means the entire horn and wiring to the horn are good. There are two switches that make the horn work. One is the button on the steering wheel which involves the clock spring. The other is the alarm which actually is the engine computer making the horn work. So, yes, take a look into the clock spring.

    SRS wiring on the 93-02 Mazda 626 is fluorescent orange and florescent blue. You show fluorescent yellow. Perhaps it's better to say that airbag wiring usually has a fluorescent colored jacket? The colors really stand out from normal wiring.

    • @RaoulThomas007
      @RaoulThomas007 Před 8 lety

      Probably a bad clock spring. Have someone read your codes and go from there.

    • @cowboystuff2002
      @cowboystuff2002 Před 8 lety

      No codes to read. Everything else is normal, except I need the trans rebuilt. I checked the codes counting the check engine light, also with a OBD1 code reader and with a DRBII code reader. For a while I had a check guages light momentarily. Check engine light isn't coming on for anything. Chrysler dealer didn't know either. Eventually maybe I'll change the clock spring, but too many things going on right now. Somebody thre a rock thru the back window.

    • @RaoulThomas007
      @RaoulThomas007 Před 8 lety

      Opps, I was thinking OBD II. Well I did find this for your year, make and model:
      Triggered by a short in the rear wiper motor/circuit (which causes a fuse to blow), the airbag warning light can illuminate erroneously.
      Problem Data
      RepairPal Verified
      6 model years affected: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
      You've probably already checked the fuse but interesting nonetheless.

    • @RaoulThomas007
      @RaoulThomas007 Před 8 lety +1

      There is an air bag recall for your vehicle too. 1993-1995Plymouth Grand Voyager Years: 1993-1995Number Involved: 860,000Dates of Manufacture: March 1993 - March 1995Defect: On certain minivans, an intermittent short circuit in the air bag initiator wire can occur shortly after vehicle startup and could lead to an inadvertent air bag deployment.Remedy: Dealers will perform an electronic diagnostic check. Any short circuits identified in either the driver or passenger side air bag initiator wire circuit will be repaired. Owner notification was expected to begin during June 1999. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997.

    • @cowboystuff2002
      @cowboystuff2002 Před 8 lety +1

      Thanks for that info. I did check Chrysler for recalls and they said everything was satisfied, but it might say that if it was never brought in. I checked fuses and they are all alright. There is a problem with the rear wiper motor and I'm replacing that, but it's a two wire plug and one wire is always hit. Normal or should I check that out? I did see that in a 3 wire system, one wire was always hot.
      I've had the dash all apart and re soldered all the connection there, but I may have to take it out again to check the wiper switch and wires.

  • @raywilliams1692
    @raywilliams1692 Před 6 lety

    You have missed the boat, the clock spring is not in the horn system
    by putting solder on the horn s/w you put pressure on the worn horn plate
    pushing it down on the turn sig s/w witch has a spring loaded tit that
    is also worn ( take it off and put a dab of solder on it) as the steering is
    turned the tit loses contact with the underside of the horn plate

    Scanner? What scanner? What's a scanner? Who has one? What do they cost, & where can I buy one? How the heck can you propose a real fix real fast yet leave out any definition of the tool used to diagnose the problem? "Yes ma'am, we found the problem using our scanner. Turns out your tire is only flat on one side, and wouldn't ya know we are having a sale - you only need to replace the bottom of the tire, not the whole tire. So with the Scanner Diagnostic Fee, and the fee for ten quarts of Genuine Mopar Certified Tire Air, the sub-total comes to $666 to fix your tire, plus tax, and the $125 tow-in charge, and a small 20% surcharge for working on Bubba's birthday. If you'll just sign this mechanic's lien we'll get right on it, shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks."
