    Oscilloscopes don't lie. When set up properly for they can tell you A LOT about what going on in the circuit. A bit of set up time, and how easy was it to find where the signal was clipping at? A good understanding of electrical theory can save you a lot of headaches, and potentially get you out of trouble when your installation didn't quite go as planned.

  • @3RDERA
    @3RDERA Před 4 lety +5

    Good stuff bro, but I think your battery in your digital multimeter is old or maybe the unit is not getting a good reading. Cause on your oscope you were getting 3 volts rms at volume 32. At 33 it was 3.65vrms but it was a clipped signal. I’d trust the oscope reading over a dmm. But maybe I’m looking at it wrong.

    • @74midwestbass74
      @74midwestbass74  Před 4 lety +3

      FOR SURE BRO!!! I used the oscope for a visual demonstration, but most people won't have oscopes😁 they'll just have to clip detectors😂! So if a person knows it what volume they're clipping and they have a multimeter this process will work perfect for them. For all of us who have old scopes this process is unnecessary because as you said, the reading is right there!!!

    • @74midwestbass74
      @74midwestbass74  Před 2 lety +1

      You find this by connecting the voltmeter to the RCA output on the back of your stereo. The pin goes in the middle is the positive and the outside is the negative

    okay, i have been searching information from everywhere and cant find it. on my pioneer (MVH-S320BT) has weird problem, i tried to measure that "pre out" voltage from the rca cabels and on the stereo own terminal and i get only 0.020V and i have tried other multimeters so the problem is not on tools. im sure everything is right on wiring and everything "should" be unbroken. im sure i have done everything right on measuring but sill doesnt get that 0.2V reading. i hope someone can give some answer for that. and my other problem in my amp (sd1600.1d evo4 2ohm) il have measured the out put voltage from that and i get only about 14V (AC) out, thats when the volume from stereo is 3/4 and gain is almost max but when i put some bass boost i get the max voltage out, what is promised on the amp manual. so far im thinking is that stereo low out put voltage causing low out put voltage to my amp aswell? thanks for help already!

    • @74midwestbass74
      @74midwestbass74  Před rokem

      First I would check on the stereo to make sure that the pre output gain is turned up ( If it has subwoofer output mode, it might be labeled as sub volume in the settings). If all those things are set properly and it's still doing the same thing, The most likely problem is that the stereo has a defect in it. All stereos should come with a minimum of 2 volts pre output voltage At the RCA. Without at least 2 volts coming out of the stereo rca's, the amp will never be able to produce rated power. Hope this helps!

    Why such a drastic difference between the scope and DMM? The scope showed 3.65Vrms clipping at volume 33 and 3.00Vrms at 32. The DMM showed 2.5V. Which is correct?
