    setting your head unit just by voltage coming out of your low level outputs or rca's with out having a clue as to where it starts to distort is a great way to put amp/amps into clipping thus potentially damaging o blowing woofers. you first need to find thevolume lvl on head unit where the sign wave is no longer clean on a oscilloscope it wil go from a flow of evenly spaced waves to wear it starts to be inconsistent n instead of smooth rounded tops you will get spikey tops until the smooth waves turn into flat top boxes basically.

    How do you account for load / noload? I have the same amps x4.. wouldn't the 105v be higher if you hooked up subs to amp under load.

    • @Mitchelmp5
      @Mitchelmp5 Před 2 lety +2

      load shouldn't matter. This is the voltage before it even hits the amp. the amp itself will adjust with the loads

    How do you find out what voltage your amp likes best? I have a massive audio d6k and i cannot find that spec in the manual

    • @MotoAtheist
      @MotoAtheist Před 2 lety

      Its in their specs on the website, Max RCA Voltage 8.5v (+/- 5%) and in the manual page 12 input sensitivity 200mV to 8v. Not many head units out there putting out that kind of voltage so whatever your head unit has will work fine. That's what the gain is for to bring whatever voltage from Head Unit up to 8v for maximum performance of amp.

      @@MotoAtheist i see that taramps is listed up to 4v, but alot of people say around 2v is what they like....I'm kinda confused

    • @MotoAtheist
      @MotoAtheist Před rokem

      @@justinatmidi Yeah, don't buy in to the hype. Truth is, it's rare you'll even be able to send a clean 4v signal. Voltage is determined by your volume level. If your head unit pre-outs say 4v, that would be 4v at max volume, say 35. Most head units will clip before max volume except for some of the really good ones. Most people will set their amp gains with their head unit at 75% volume. That would put voltage around 3v which is perfectly fine for most modern amps. The latest audio gear is starting to see even higher voltages being output.
      Basically, the higher the voltage you can supply from the head unit, the less gain needed on the amplifier which helps limit distortion. I don't know why people are saying 2v works better, but to each their own. You can easily test the theory by setting your head unit to 2v using a multimeter. Give it a listen and then set your head unit back to whatever your clipping point is and listen to that. I find it safe to say you would likely not hear any difference at all and just leave the head unit just shy of clipping point.

      @@MotoAtheist no, thats not how it works. The amp can handle .2-8v on input, but the amp will still take either to multiply it to what the voltage needs to be on the rails which is typically 40v. Hence why 8v would be the minimum or bottom of the gain and .2 would be maxing the gain out, the amo doesnt have to magnify 8v as much as it does .2v to give the rails the 40v they need.

    • @FuckYouTubeCensorship2024
      @FuckYouTubeCensorship2024 Před 3 měsíci

      @@MotoAtheist 2v works better on TARAMPS amplifiers because they so not have the filters other quality amps, especially korean amps have to deal with higher rca voltage input. If you actually had experience with taramps you would know that. I have yet to have a taramps that didnt act up with exceeding 2.0v on rca voltage. I have gotten better performance at actually not exceeding 1.9v rca voltage on those amps.

    I have a brand new MD5k and I can’t get it to not clip at almost any volume for some reason. I have tons of power but my HU is sending 2.5 through the RCAs, could that cause it. I’m so lost with this amp and it’s the last thing for my build. It’s really pissing me off

      Sorta kinda, but adjusting it there can lead to some distortion. We just keep our sub level at 0 to simplify things.

    • @glasercody2451
      @glasercody2451 Před rokem

      You have to have a Oscope to find the distortion point. Then you can use a speaker wire (front right + - ) whatevers easily accessible. Then play a 1khz test tone and turn the volume up until the wave is flat at the peek back it off until and round or (sharp) and the is the perfect number you need to stop at

    I know this is old but I don’t really understand what I did wrong, I installed a 10in sub in my car but I get no bass, the only time I hear any type of bass is when I max out the output sub level 10 max out the input level on my amp and almost max out the knob, and with all that it’s still extremely low, is it my head unit not putting out a strong signal or is it the amp not boosting the signal?

      I know I'm extremely late on finding and replying to this comment but I'm going to do it anyway in case someone else runs into this.
      Most likely with what you've described you have a speaker wired backwards somewhere in your system. In your situation I would check every connection starting with the easiest to check in hopes of finding it there until I found what I had wired in reverse polarity. It's easy to do when installing a system, especially if you've done it from the head unit back. I did this not long ago and I had ended up looking at the wrong wire diagram for my factory head unit and had wired 1 speaker backwards as well as my subwoofer to the amp backwards. Easy fix, you just have to find it.

    Im putting 50hz, audio max, filters off, subwoofer level at +6, and my RCA output only reaches .11v for a supposedly 2v pioneer HU. I tested my multimeters voltage on my battery and it came back accurate, I've also tested with a new pair of RCA cables and got the exact same .11v
    Do you know what could be wrong this is pissing me the fuck off. All I could think of doing is getting a new headunit.
    Going to check the wiring and fuse out of desperation but honestly I doubt it has anything to do with that

      ricky trevino your deck might say 6 volt preouts what the manufacturer doesnt tell you at what ohm did they get that 6 volts or what frequency? your amp is more than likelyt never going to see 1 volt going into it through rca inputs. typically its going t0 run off 250 -500millavolts

      he says that the max volts the amps like is 2v so at 51 sound volume, with the bass nob maxed, on the head unit it pushes out close to his desired 2v with a reading of 1.87 or so. you notice when he turns the bass nob down the voltage output drops. achieves his desired result of being able to crank the music to 51 and turn the bass nob to max and be getting the desired voltage to the amps.
      he can then move forward to the amps to set the amps gain knowing his input voltage is what he wants.
