My wife of 24 yrs has no filter
    & she's getting noisier
I thought I getting good equipment when I originally got her...😂😂

So a higher preamp voltage means less noise! Awesome video, thank you guys!

One of the biggest jokes about the car audio environment is how long manufacturers refused to adopt digital as the interconnect medium for sources to amplifiers. Its a perfectly clean signal which can handle a long run from dash to trunk (typical amp mounting area) and 5-7 channels (compressed) signal. this was available back in '98... yet here we are 20 years later still wondering about preamp voltages.
I do realize it was used by a few manufacturers, and didn't catch on, but I think that had a lot to do with marketing. that or people in car audio are just really really dumb.

Can you have to much input voltage. I.e newer generation 5v headunit with old school amplifier with 2volt input?? Just a for instance. Some dsp have 8 volts some amplifiers have 5v input. So can you have to much input voltage and if so what would it do to the equipment?

    Great, video guys!

My experience is/was ... with higher voltage I got a clear enough signal to where I was able to further extend the sound quality a few dB's . However it is only noticeable to those who know music and sound ... for most it wouldn't make a huge difference enough to consider 4 over 2 voltage.

I ordered a HU with 5V output to change against my HU with around 2,5V output to get that few more dynamics entering into SQ.

@@tommyshoe-star1426 What was you experience with 5V over 2.5V? Of course, more is better, but was it relevant for s.o. hearing music, not joining a SQ competition. Thx

@@torstenkenning my main reason for changing wasn´t really in need for the higher voltage, it was that my HU didn´t support flac files what I ripped my CDs to ;)
I´d say it´s quite a difference, yes but really necessary ? NO!
I´m missing the remote that the older radio had tbh, it made the setup while working in the back of the car way easier or while fine tuning on the other side it looks way better with the interior as mine is red and the old one was blue...
I wouldn´t see there´s a need in upgrade if you dont really feel it, hope that helps

@@christophsmaul5575 I had a Kenwood KDC BT 6544U and switched to a Kenwood KDC BT960DAB, only thing I don´t like is that I´m missing the remote that came with the older model and I liked the knob more for switching tracks/folders than hitting a button to switch
sadly the old model didn´t support wav or flac files

I have a BT streaming 3 way crossover. Its specs lists 9v pre-amp output.
Dean mentioned that some amps do not like high pre-amp output. Is 9v considered high voltage? Do specs on amps identify how much voltage it wants from an RCA signal?
