How I test RCA pre-out voltage (bad advice in video - see comments)

  • Mind you this is a split RCA out from my headunit. So at Max volume I'm getting 1.2v from my sub pre-out on the back of the Joying HU. I prefer to see 4 volts. So I'll be buying a RCA amplifier/booster. Assuming it won't introduce noise in the line. Time will tell.

    You cant divide voltage from rca its the same. Even if you ise a y splitter its the same

    • @ElevatedVehicles
      @ElevatedVehicles  Před rokem +4

      You are correct. I was mistaken towards the end of this video to have added the voltage together to come up with 1.2v
      I need to make an updated video to divulge that even with a Y splitter, voltage remains the same. It is not half per RCA like I mistakenly pointed out in the video.

    My 2001 joying have 2 per-out for the subwoofer and it's about 1.5 - 2.0 volts

    I think android units are great, but the pre outs are the only down side. I usually tell people to invest in a line out converter if your getting an android unit.

    • @ElevatedVehicles
      @ElevatedVehicles  Před 11 měsíci

      Agreed.
      Surprisingly they listen to our feedback over the past 2 years and the new revised 2023 units from Joying have 2v pre-outs. Not the greatest but better than what my 2021 unit had in the video above.
      I will gain match my amp now with these new higher voltage pre-outs

    On a joying headunit switch it to loud in your settings leave your hpf and lpf open. That's what your Amp is for. get yourself a line driver hook it up to your RCA then hook it up to your Amp you will see a night and day difference in your subs or sub.
    I'm on my 3rd joying headunit I've dealt with one rca for my subs for a minute but they hit hard.

    • @ElevatedVehicles
      @ElevatedVehicles  Před rokem +1

      Damn I didn't even think to put high pass & low pass to full because yes that makes sense. The amp is gonna filter it anyways. Solid idea.
      I read loud, on the Joying, will push more volts to the sub pre-out higher at lower volume and decrease voltage as you increase volume to avoid clipping from the headunit. Is that true?

    • @22mell01
      @22mell01 Před rokem +2

      @ElevatedVehicles Yes, just leave the sub settings open. When you put it on loud mode your subs won't clip because your only getting signal from 1 sub RCA but you have a chance of clipping your mids and highs the best way to handle that is to use your EQ and lower your mids and highs. But regardless your mids and highs still will be louder on lower volumes, its just less volume to turn up, that's all. I use Power Amp app for my music all my music is in the headunit.

      @22mell01 Glad I found this video and these comments!
      I bought a Joying HU last year.
      Since it blew my factory speakers I decided to upgrade them and add an amp.
      This is my first amp install. I totally misunderstood how to check voltage from the RCA outputs! I had my meter set on VDC. I even emailed Joying for support.
      Now I see here that not only was I measuring the wrong way; there still may be a need for an LOC? I'm getting around .8VAC.
      Question... Is there such things as low level to low level LOCs or do I get high/speaker level LOCs?
      Thanks in advance!

  • @RJayRabbit
    @RJayRabbit Před rokem +2

    I also like 4-5V on my preout, you have to introduce more gain to achieve the setting you want on the sub amp with lower preout V. Audio control makes good stuff.

    • @ElevatedVehicles
      @ElevatedVehicles  Před 3 měsíci

      The RCA from the headunit do not go into the amp. So no sound goes to the amp. So no sound comes out of the speaker

    Side question, you thinking about doing a 360 bird eye view on the Jeep? I just ordered the joying 11.6 and they don’t offer a camera kit

    • @ElevatedVehicles
      @ElevatedVehicles  Před rokem +2

      I'm going to try that tonight (running a single RCA) because I'm getting some ground loop feedback in my sub... Unless I unplug the RCA cables then it's gone. So I'm hoping that will be the fix.
      Yes! Would love a 360 bird eye view for off roading & parallel parking. Agreed, sucks Joying doesn't offer one but apparently they're working on it. I am, however, installing a front camera that will be ran to small video splitter so I can easily toggle between front and rear. Front will be 'slave' to rear meaning rear will always be default and 'on' unless I hit the toggle switch.
      Speaking of, I just uploaded a video about the toggle switch I'll be using.

      I upgraded my BS '14 Camry "Infotainment" head unit and never looked back! So many features! My head unit is basically an extension of my Galaxy phone. Ex. I download content straight from my home music server when I'm parked in my garage and on home wifi.
      If you have the extra cash, invest in a line out converter! Or wait for the 2VAC units to come out.
      You won't regret it!
