    Canada, China, Russia, Vietnam and many other countries have long nose trucks. And actually even in EU, as long as the overall length is within the limit, you can drive a long nose truck with a short trailer. I have seen VNL 740 in Europe. The company is called Den Hartogh Transport in The Netherlands.

    You fail to mention that vintage cab-over trucks have a huge fan base in America. Those era of cabiver trucks are very saught after now, not dissimlar to what you would find with the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s now

    In Canada, I have heard the long bonnet lorries nicknamed, "curb sniffers." It likely refers to the long nose and lower ride height than the cabover lorries. I believe the nickname, "curb sniffer," may have originated in United States of America.

    North American countries buy conventional trucks in the US. Australia can balance cabovers and conventional trucks. I'm from the Philippines and conventional trucks are rare there and are made in the US which are Freightliner and International only, but cabovers are very suitable in the Philippines no matter the brands are Asian or European.

    Here in New Zealand we use both long nose and cabover trucks. Everything from European, to American, to Asian brands.

    I remember when my Uncle Chuck was a truck driver in the mid 1980s, he was an owner operator for North American moving lines, he had a 1984 Cabover GMC, and a 1985 Cabover Freightliner.. I remember as a teenager then falling in love with his 85 cabover Freightliner.....

    Sweden is about to get road train like trucks. Box truck with two trailers connected but only on a few set routes.

    scania also made a few long nose trucks but they are quite rare to see in europe

      I wouldn't say "a few". Until the middle of the 1970's Scania made more "torpedos" (long noses) than "bulldogs" (cabovers). This was the total production including export. But in the Nordic countries the torpedos were pretty common as long as you could buy them. And Scania used the letter L for the torpedos and LB for the bulldogs as identification codes until the 2 series with a new identification system was introduced in 1981.

    fun fact; Kenworth Australia still build cab over K200 trucks for Australia and nearby markets, they are quite popular as they offer the power and driving commonalities of the long nosed models whilst retaining the maneuverability of a cab over.

    In the UK our city roads have never been designed for trucks. Only horse and carts historically, which means cars today, so it might be possible to have long nose trucks on our motorways, they still have to go through towns and cities with roads not designed for them, at some point. Just follow the UK trucking channels will show you that

    Longer hoods weren't needed for higher horsepower engines. Truck builders offered the same engines in both conventional and cabovers. Back when cabovers we're available.
    Mack, International and of coarse Kenworth & Peterbilt always built long hood trucks. Especially for the West Coast market

    My three favorite trucks are the Peterbilt 379, Ford L9000, and just about any R-Model Mack, in that order. But I'll tell ya, I cannot see a classic COE going down the road without grinning like a damn fool! Lol!

    in France, after WWI & WWII, trucks had a long nose, because French manufacturers like Berliet, Willème took as models the American army trucks which remained or were abandoned in the country

    In Israel you can also find conversation trucks in Israel but the vast majority is COE trucks mainly European

    Short answer: trucks got cut off from maximum trailer length law so companies didnt have to make the trucks as short as possible.

    It’s not that other countries don’t have conventional, many in Europe do and in Asian countries, it’s just that america almost only uses conventional. There’s no place where a cab over is so needed it would be worth the import challenges for a cab over comoany to come here.

    Hino is the only Japanese truckmaker to produced long-nosed trucks for North American & Canadian market but their engine is so small which is A09C instead of the standard E13C which is a popular engine for Hino Profia (JP Market) / 700 series on global market

    Cab over are my favoirte since I was a kid. I was sad to see them phased out in the US.
    Freightliner did try to sell cabover iin the US again with the Agrosy. However they stopped selling them in US market in 2006 and focused the Agrosy to the overseas market.
    I had hopes that Nikola's TRE would be the truck to put cabovers back on US roads as a regular sight. Sadly the history of the company and recent issues with the trucks suddenly catching fire is putting my hopes for that up in smoke as well.

      Cabovers we're phased out with the 1982 Surface Transportation Act that literally did away with length laws. Which was the reason for cabovers. Yes they are very nostalgic and rode many miles with my Dad in the 60s&70s.
      But the favorite saying was when you drive a cabover, you're the first one to the scene of the wreck. Conventionals are safer, especially entering and exiting them, the protection afforded the driver and the superior ride and comfort

    Almost the rest of the world? I saw far more longnosed when I was living in China several years ago. There was definitely not a blanket policy without grandfathering at that time, at least.

    Why can't USA have mix of Asian, American and European truck.. its so variety to see that. Like we have here in Australia &New Zealand all sort shape brands. Never gets boring.. moreover here trucks and trailers are so so uniquely painted that from far away, you can tell that it belongs to a certain company

      I'm not sure the exact reason why, but American truck culture is incredibly important to American culture actually, and a lot of people would hate to see bonnet trucks give way even partially to cab over. I'm actually in favor of having both. They each have their advantages.

    Not just the USA South America Central America Carribian Islands Austrailia And parts of Asia use conventional cab trucks and the older us trucks hold up very well. Europe has really small roads and Villages older than the United States itself

    Let me correct you on one thing. Any truck without an all straight hood is not a long hood, meaning if it doesn't have a hood at all or if the hood is curved downward in any way, the truck is instantly a piece of freaking crap short hood truck.

      Thank you for saying this! My parents live in Germany and while visiting I noticed this, along with a lot of your trailers actually steer as well for tight cornering. The trucks are catered to the infrastructure.

    US and Canada and Mexico are the only markets where conventional trucks are dominant. Road trains tend to be conventional in Australia but in much more populated coastal areas cabovers are preferred for the same space concerns as you mentioned.
    That being said, trucking sucks no matter where you live including US, reason I will never be one.

      Conventional trucks dominate in AU as well. While cabovers are more common the market is still predominantly long hoods.

    Because America relies a lot on truck freigh hauling instead of locomotive. In Europe, the distance for these lorries tk go is significantly smaller than that of america and australia.
    In short, if america had a more expansive freight rail network (yes even though it is already the biggest) then there would be little need for the longer semi-trucks.

      We move far more tonnage by rail than most of EU combined, and definitely by country. You are forgetting ONE major role that EU short semi trucks play. The infrastructure in many areas of Europe require very tight turning. A lot of the roads are literally built on top of horse and carriage paths. Majority of your trailers actually steer, hence the tight turning requirements.

      Much of the "tonnage" are commodities - Coal, Metal Ore, Rock, Petroleum Distillates - since the US has more natural resources it mines and moves around the country(or exports). Unprocessed those natural resources are mostly heavy "rocks" that weigh more than finished goods. Many natural resources in the EU are depleted, so there is nothing to move around on trains.
      Plus the millions of little "Short Line" Railroads without a centralized consolidated well maintained Rail Network capable of moving products from Guandong China to Madrid Spain within a few weeks. US Railroads are unreliable(and frequently in disrepair), they care more about Investor dividends and operating ratios today than delivering a shipment on time.

      @@legatvsdecimvs3406 What is your point exactly, my point still stands. Are you trying to say that the only reason we have the tonnage is because its raw natural resources? If that's the argument then the same could be said about Australia. There largest road trains are in fact those that haul raw materials. Even with all of the outsourcing the US has done I'd still without hesitation argue that we also move more tonnage of finished product as well. The fact that we are even comparing the entire EU to one country is also laughable. Just to even things up we should include Canada and Mexico in with the US and I'd guarantee we'd crush any example coming from the EU.
      I could easily argue that majority of Europe, especially eastern, has a lot of Railroads that are just as unreliable if not more. I am not just some US citizen that hasnt seen the rest of the world. My parents currently live in Germany and I myself was stationed in Diyarbakir/Incirlik Turkey as well as Alice Springs AU. If you think that the rest of the world isn't also greedy when it comes to profits then I've got some ocean front property in Tibet to sell you. The vast majority of Europe is ran by small governments who are in fact out for themselves and their own profits. The European Mass Transit Rail system is better, that is about it. If the US wanted to invest we could easily trump Europe's mass transit and be on par with somewhere like Japan, but like we've both stated, greed and corruption are a priority.

      Liar. US trucks always had 400-600hp on average since the 1970s.. european trucks only about 280-400hp in that time.
      Nowadays the average truck in EU got 450hp and US trucks 550 hp. Yes ofcourse there are Volvo's and Scania with 750hp but they only use these in Scandinavia or for heavy haulage

    Long nose trucks are hard to drive in european mountain roads and american trucks looks ugly in european cities. Its goofy to see a american truck driving with fiat 500 and volkswagen vans in autobahn. But it looks good with american city atmosphere

    Canada uses American semis, Australia does, Latin America does, etc. In Canada, most semi truck drivers have the same taste as American ones for one and America's on the border of Canada and they are very similar countries with similar cultures and such.
