I don't know how to explain this but i love when black actors get put into roles like this, stupid cliché rom coms high school dramas stuff like that it completely normalises black people in roles that aren't about slavery or living in the hood or racism and its just nice to see a black girl playing a cheesy character in a cheesy film
TAMEXPO yeah but they fuck up when everyone else is white. It's like she's the special snowflake. Like do one of these movies without doing obvious interracial love propaganda.
isobel64 I dance for 3 mins randomly. Just because it shows a different type of black person doesn't mean they are trying to be white. And I think that's the problem. Because films like this exist portraying black people and women as anything other than serious, slaves or poor, people believe black people like this don't exist. We can create movies that are silly and not necessarily for the advancement of black people because honestly it can get depressing and tiring. This is a different route. There is nothing wrong with that. Black people can have silly romcoms. It doesn't mean we are imitating white people.
I dont know what you're going on about.I watch Nollywood. we're not shown as slaves or any such things. Trying to make Jessica Jones out as deeper than it really is. Interesting how whenever they do these so called "black girl quirky shows" her friends and love interest are ALWAYS WHITE.
I liked Jessica Williams and thought she was really funny, but I thought it would have done better as a TV show so the characters have more time to develop and you can kinda follow Jessica's journey
I dont think the point of the film was to present any sort of new ideas about love or anything lol but it did provide much needed representation for black girls in that genre of film. I feel like it was intentionally corny and the fact that a black girl was playing a weird 20-something looking for love gave the movie a unique trait
As a writer, I didn't watch for the romantic storyline but for her struggle in finding her place within the writing world. I loved the characters interaction with her theater students and she also introduced me to writer/performer Sarah Jones. The romantic drama was just a filler storyline in my opinion. I love the Mielle Organics deep conditioner!
I hate when people say if certain people aren't in the video, then the video is boring or not worth watching. I love Evelyn, VEDA is my ish with her on her channel. But this is a company with many different woman and networks. It's not just Evelyn and Nikki even though they are shining stars. respect the page. their other non Evelyn and Nikki videos are great too! quit with the "Where's Evelyn/ Nikki, I aint watching..." In every video. Support the NatruallyCurly brand or don't. Simple.
Nikki!! Girl, I finally bought a wet brush based on you raving about. MY LIFE HAS BEEN CHANGED!! 🙌🙌 Literally the fastest I have EVER detangled my hair, with minimal shed hair! Thanks for telling me about this brush
Totally agree with everything you said. To me, Jessica's character wasn't even all that likable. When she yelled at the little girl because she didn't want to go on the writing retreat . . . I was like, "Girl! If you don't go somewhere and sit down".
I loved it, I wish it was a series instead of a movie. I think the focal point was her character instead of the storyline. She's very lost and all over the place but still very sure of herself and sure that she's a big deal despite what happens to her, that makes her very relatable. In terms of acting, I think it was really realistic and not overdone.
What I did like was the struggles regarding finding success as a playwright and how she was so passionate about it and how she was the black sheep in her family. And I liked her class she had w/ the kids and how she kept encouraging them. But I see what you mean as well w/ it not being that different or unique. 🤷🏾♀️ unless it was suppose to be satire but that's reaching lol
Watch and go. I love it. And completely agree with your review. A good explanation "about nothing". And the scrolling through for so long is exactly how I got caught watching it 🙃
I loved this movie! I watched it about 3 times in 2 days. What I love about it is that you don't often get to see a black girl, being goofy, in a romantic comedy, where she is the lead and not the helpful sidekick. And in this movie the white girl was helpful sidekick and Advance the black girl storyline. That's something that you also really ever see. So, I went into it expecting a frothy light funny cute comedy and that's what I got and I just absolutely adored it.
I loved the movie and I was surprised by your review. I enjoyed how the ending wasn't typical and I felt the movie was about accepting and being happy with your life as it is. She found love with someone she didn't expect and she found happiness in a job she didn't expect. We are taught to reach for ideals which is great but then we miss out on being happy today because what we have doesn't hold up to the idea of what we should want.
Really enjoying these 'Watch and Go' reviews.. I definitely agree with Nikki- the movie is just ok.. it's like a movie you watch when you've called out of work or skipped class but didn't tell your squad before so you just killin time until they can report what you missed.. or you watch something without your partner and if it's really good you act like you didn't watch so they can't be upset- this movie would fall under 'I watched it already.. you ain't missing nothing' category..
Sarah T Jessica W. did an interview on Desus and Mero that's WAY more entertaining than this movie- BUTTT there are a plethora of mediocre RomComs without a glimpse of representation so that alone is reason to watch.. IJS
I really liked how your curls turned out Nikki. Looked awesome....as for that movie, once you said "I've been scrolling through netflix a long time, might as well watch this one" I totally got it....hahaha
YES Nikki! It was a snoozefest honestly. I didn't find jessica dope or endearing at all! She was self centered and arrogant with so few redeeming qualities. What was especially terrible was how she treated that little girl in her class. No spoilers but she tried it.
ChristiG124 yea she was to honest w/ how she spoke to the little girl and her mother at that it wasn't reasonable to think someone in real life would over step their bounds as an instructor & do all that
this review is so accurate. a fine movie, but nothing special aside from having a cast that you want to support even if they're having a mediocre moment
I agree with everything you said. I did not even manage to finish the movie I was so disinterested. Evelyn's commentary on the side was killing me. Y'all are a funny duo.
It’s the same old rom-com but with a black woman as the lead, which is great. But I reeeeally thought it was a tv show the whole time I watched it. And when it ended, it just... ended. I think if it was a show it would be better.
I enjoyed the movie, but as far as growth goes, Jessica's character really didn't have any? She was straight up rude to A CHILD cause the girl wanted to spend time with her dad, and at no point in the movie did Jessica seem remorseful about it or even apologize. IDK, I feel like other than Chris O'Dowd, all the characters ended up exactly where they were at the beginning
Oh I must have missed that moment. I know she went back and talked to her but Idr her explicitly apologizing, that def changes my view of the movie a little bit.
The Avocado hair milk is life! It's the best leave-in I've tried. I don't recommend the Honey Ginger gel during the summer. The honey & glycerin makes my hair very soft but also very frizzy in humid weather. It doesn't have a lot of hold so I wouldn't really use it as a gel. I was not impressed by the White Peony leave-in spray. Didn't do too much for my hair & it was hard to use with wet, slippery hands.
Spoilers: When i found out SHE broke up with HIM. It had me fucked up. Like forreal? All this eccentricities and youre the one that broke yup with him?
I definitely agree that this could have been a shorter feature. I went into it initially thinking this would be a 30-minute episode type deal and was hella taken aback after like 40 minutes of it still playing.... I still enjoyed it though.....
I was waiting for this review 🙄 I was not impressed with this movie AT all. I'm not sure what made her dope or incredible. Her "unapologetic/straightforward" attitude came off as rude and arrogant. She may be dope in real life, but it just didn't translate on the screen for me. I would give it 2 stars and that's me being generous lol
I wanted this movie to be sitcom. I thought it was a sitcom when I first started watching it..... until I realized I had been watching for more than an hour.
The great thing about this movie is learning independence. Jessica didn't end up (officially) with this guy trying his damnest to be a savior. This movie is a commentary on personal belief and philosophies and their intersections with real world applications
Great review, I only watched this movie for Chris o'dowd and lakeith, because she was boring. I wasn't into her as much as I thought I would be. I didn't like these hair products, they did nothing for my hair and I ended up giving them away.
☺️ I won't bother with this movie unless it's December and the Christmas fare on Hallmark is particularly lackluster. 😏Thanks for saving me the time!🙌🏾
I thought it was really boring and I was disappointed. I really wanted to like it because I like Jessica Williams but something was missing for me 🤷🏾♀️
I don't entirely disagree with Nikki on this but I'm also curious what she considers to be 5 stars. Did I miss a glowing review?! lol I think this was a great first film project for Jessica Williams though and I'm looking forward to seeing what else she produces in the future!
I really liked the movie. Lately I've been wanting to watch stuff with a slower pace that's character driven. Second time watching I did skip the parts with the kids though.
I liked the movie because her character was so weird, but confident. I feel like the movie itself was silly (not funny). At times things the character did wasn't believable, but I was okay with that since it's a movie.
I really enjoyed the movie. Her character was absolutely self-centered and had plenty of other flaws, but I enjoyed the story and how it ended. Black folks gotta be open to seeing us outside of our typical movie roles. 👌🏿
You are so harsh, it's ridiculous. Lol. When the piano fell on her boyfriend, it made me jump so hard. I had just been in a car accident and it made my back hurt, so bad, but I was laughing. I tweeted her and she tweeted back. I was like, yay. Lol.
Kinda saw this movie as being more than a romcom. Maybe cause I'm going through a similar situation as Jessica being uncertain of my career and future. Especially when you think you have it all planned out but it was never meant to be 😟. It really spoke to me, so 4/5 from me.
Nikki again dashes all my hopes and dreams about a show or movie, lol. A fair review though. It just sounds like good actors were victim to bad direction.
I loved it. Evelyn needs to stop. haha When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was for a series, and I think it would have done better as one. I got really uncomfortable when Jessica went off on one of her students, but overall I was entertained.

so in other words acting like a white person? you can be black and not be a stereotype of either races. dancing for 3 mins randomly? for what?
isobel64 I dance for 3 mins randomly. Just because it shows a different type of black person doesn't mean they are trying to be white. And I think that's the problem. isobel64 yeah im sure alot of Americans watch nigeria movies m8
I liked Jessica Williams and thought she was really funny, but I thought it would have done better as a TV show so the characters have more time to develop and you can kinda follow Jessica's journey
Angela agreed
Angela there's like a billion Jessica Williams in the world but somehow I thought you were talking about me lol! 😶😶
Ooooo, that's a great idea! I would love to see this as a series! But I genuinely enjoyed it too.
I dont think the point of the film was to present any sort of new ideas about love or anything lol but it did provide much needed representation for black girls in that genre of film. I feel like it was intentionally corny and the fact that a black girl was playing a weird 20-something looking for love gave the movie a unique trait
Agreed. It demonstrated that blacks girls are silly, quirky, awkward, and weird; traits usually reserved for white girls.
Chewing Gum was better at that
TBH I don't even watch most of the shows or seen the movies they review but, if it's Evelyn or Nikki ... I'M WATCHING! 😂
As a writer, I didn't watch for the romantic storyline but for her struggle in finding her place within the writing world. I loved the characters interaction with her theater students and she also introduced me to writer/performer Sarah Jones. The romantic drama was just a filler storyline in my opinion.

Exactlllllyyyy!
Aryce H. Lmao same
Same
Not me, I watch them all to support they brand and coins

*applause* seriously, some people can be so rude
Congratulations!!!! I am so happy for you and your soon to be new addition!!! You are going to be an awesome mom!!!
Try-A- Craft gracias!!
I loved it, I wish it was a series instead of a movie. I think the focal point was her character instead of the storyline. Dead at Evelyn in the background "Would youuu?"
I've been scrolling through Netflix so long I might as well watch this one hilarious☺☺☺ I feel ya girl!!!!
any IT Crowd fans here?
I didn't really like it either....I was just watching it, instead of being engaged with the characters. Just glad I wasn't alone on this one!!
I loved this movie! I watched it about 3 times in 2 days. What I love about it is that you don't often get to see a black girl, being goofy, in a romantic comedy, where she is the lead and not the helpful sidekick. M CJ yup. Totally agree on seeing a goofy black girl who is not the sidekick.
Chewing Gum is super goofy an better than this corny mess.
isobel64 I adore Chewing Gum, but I wouldn't put it on the same category as this movie
I loved the movie and I was surprised by your review. I enjoyed how the ending wasn't typical and I felt the movie was about accepting and being happy with your life as it is. Shante Walker lmao, this is a perfect representation of how I feel about this movie. "You ain't missin' nothin'".
Sarah T Jessica W. did an interview on Desus and Mero that's WAY more entertaining than this movie- BUTTT there are a plethora of mediocre RomComs without a glimpse of representation so that alone is reason to watch.. IJS
i dont know what type of hair i have and i dont use any products besides treseme shampoo and conditioner...i just think these girls are HILARIOUS.
Evelyn talking about "would youu?" 🤔😂
Who's here before 5,000 views
I love your honesty. I feel the same way about a majority of the Netflix movies I reluctantly watch. lol
I really liked how your curls turned out Nikki. Looked awesome....as for that movie, once you said "I've been scrolling through netflix a long time, might as well watch this one" I totally got it....hahaha
Hope you guys are all safe in Austin from the floods! Sending you prayers and love and warmth!!!
love you so much and this series is BOMB💓💓💓🌱✨
This movie was so refreshing and made me feel so good watching it
YES Nikki! It was a snoozefest honestly. I didn't find jessica dope or endearing at all! She was self centered and arrogant with so few redeeming qualities. What was especially terrible was how she treated that little girl in her class. No spoilers but she tried it.

It was creepy AF how Jessica showed up at the girls house.. If my teacher/instructor came to my house and came in my room I'd be weirded out
this movie sucked
atypical is a great show, it's pretty short. very funny. i hope it can be reviewed on watch and go
cutekitten12 I really really like atypical.
this review is so accurate. a fine movie, but nothing special aside from having a cast that you want to support even if they're having a mediocre moment
You ok Nikki. You seemed sad/down at the beginning (pressed pause...will now keep watching)
Nikki is too real! But I love her for that.
Aye! My boy Chris O'Dowd's in it! Will give it a watch because of the review too
I actually really loved it. The movie was chill but super entertaining imo.
I agree with everything you said. I did not even manage to finish the movie I was so disinterested. Evelyn's commentary on the side was killing me. Y'all are a funny duo.

Maria Garcia she apologized when she went to the kid's place
Oh I must have missed that moment. I know she went back and talked to her but Idr her explicitly apologizing, that def changes my view of the movie a little bit.
+Mary Kagiri That was creepy af

Evelyn in the background had me dying!!
everything in the comments is so right. would give it a two and a half cause my expectations were high-ish
I was waiting for this review 🙄 I was not impressed with this movie AT all. I'm not sure what made her dope or incredible. Her "unapologetic/straightforward" attitude came off as rude and arrogant. I figure out what I'm binge watching next because of this show
I wanted this movie to be sitcom. I thought it was a sitcom when I first started watching it..... until I realized I had been watching for more than an hour.
Hey Evelyn, please review Donald Glover's Atlanta if you're into it. I truly would to love to hear your thoughts on this show.
THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING
I thought the movie was great. I loved it.
The great thing about this movie is learning independence. Jessica didn't end up (officially) with this guy trying his damnest to be a savior. This movie is a commentary on personal belief and philosophies and their intersections with real world applications
The dance in the intro reminded me of Bridget Jones, wuthout the alcohol haze.
Even the trailer was boring lol I'm glad I saved my time
Great review, I only watched this movie for Chris o'dowd and lakeith, because she was boring. I wasn't into her as much as I thought I would be. I didn't like these hair products, they did nothing for my hair and I ended up giving them away.
loved this video
I need that Brush
☺️
I won't bother with this movie unless it's December and the Christmas fare on Hallmark is particularly lackluster. 😏Thanks for saving me the time!🙌🏾
i LOE THIS MOVIE
It already gets points just for Lakeith 😍
Do a Watch n Go on White Gold please.
I thought it was really boring and I was disappointed. I really wanted to like it because I like Jessica Williams but something was missing for me 🤷🏾♀️
Nevermind the movie; that honey and ginger styling gel did absolutely nothing for my hair. 😩
Who ever is here before 100,000 is a true one.
who cares about something so petty
Ha! I wanna disagree with you so bad... but i can't 😂😂😂😂😂 I'd give it 3.5 stars tho
I've been waiting for ya'll to review Luke Cage!! Luke Cage pleeease!
I love that movie
I think it would of been better as a series so it could be developed a lot more....... it kind of gives me Insecure vibes a tad but not as good
Yay congrats on being pregnant
Brooke W 🤰🏽🤗
The most convincing member of the cast was that little girl that they focused on.
I absolutely loved the movie...I'm surprised that a lot of ppl feel differently
I don't entirely disagree with Nikki on this but I'm also curious what she considers to be 5 stars. Did I miss a glowing review?! lol I think this was a great first film project for Jessica Williams though and I'm looking forward to seeing what else she produces in the future!
o.wynd hey homie! I loved Insecure. Gave it a 5.
I saw that one! I was just like what does it take!! Insecure is for sure 5 stars :)
Same. People really been celebrating it so much.
Do Atlanta!
I really enjoyed the movie. Her character was absolutely self-centered and had plenty of other flaws, but I enjoyed the story and how it ended. Black folks gotta be open to seeing us outside of our typical movie roles. 👌🏿
why can't that happen with all black cast? why is the object of affection always white in these "off beat" movies?
isobel64 Netflix, especially, is always teeming with movies like that. We can do it all. Well.
I enjoyed the movie. I thought at times the pace was too slow but it was alright.
Nikki is having a baby right? She's such a little cutie natural beauty!!
Yay I haven't seen it
For the record the movie was not created by Jessica Williams. This man wrote it and wanted her in it and she said yes.
That comb, tho 😍
I'm watching Riverdale. Can someone review that?!? 😊
But please review what happened to Monday lordt that movie was so trippy but super interesting !!
Ohsnap Osei I agree that movie was soooo good.
You are so harsh, it's ridiculous. Lol. When the piano fell on her boyfriend, it made me jump so hard. I had just been in a car accident and it made my back hurt, so bad, but I was laughing. I tweeted her and she tweeted back. I was like, yay. Lol.
Hey, Nikki. Can you please give the name of your brush and where to purchase one? Thanks.
Hey can you review Haters Back Off on NETFLIX
Kinda saw this movie as being more than a romcom. Maybe cause I'm going through a similar situation as Jessica being uncertain of my career and future. Especially when you think you have it all planned out but it was never meant to be 😟. It really spoke to me, so 4/5 from me.
Nikki again dashes all my hopes and dreams about a show or movie, lol. A fair review though. It just sounds like good actors were victim to bad direction.
Lol, I felt the same way. It was pretty trash if I could say it in harsh terms. Nearly fell asleep at the end.
oh wow someone really uses that Ouidad brushing contraption? its like a unicorn sighting
rachray83 😂😂 it was around. I usually use a brush.
I loved it. Evelyn needs to stop. haha
When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was for a series, and I think it would have done better as one. I got really uncomfortable when Jessica went off on one of her students, but overall I was entertained.
I saw the movie and I wasn't mad at it. I could probably fluff out my review with some intellectual commentary about the importance and significance of black women being in control of their own narratives and what not, but it was just a basic, cute love story.
In other Netflix news, have y'all seen Message From the King tho?! That movie was terrible 😂
The Incredible Jessica James centred whiteness so much. It was a bit dry and I didn't like her character.
Please review the movie what happened to Monday 😊😊
Flower child Andy B watching it now...
meilleorganics products are the bomb.com! i love them and they get your hair healthy, moisturized, and curls poppin 💜❤💙
has anyone reviewed season 2 of the underground?
I disagree thoroughly, the movie was so great and hilarious. Maybe the awkward humor just isn't for everyone but I loved every minute of it.
It's better than Hallmark.. they never feature people of color in romantic situations. LOL. But it was just a standard rom-com. Nothing too spectacular... but it's just good to see brown folks in love
