Is it tho? Or was his example a smart choice? For every male dominated job field, there is a female dominated job field and implying that there should be a certain amount of female brick builders before we can rightfully want equality is bullsht. Most of these jobs can be held in the "physically rough"-bucket and the "empathy/social"-bucket and it is very clear which of the buckets is women and which is men dominated. We can hopefully also agree that there are physical differences between women and men. While women have an easier time being empathetic, men are physically stronger. That doesn't mean that it is black and white like, no men could be empathetic and no women could be stronger than any man, but it is commonly known and statistically proven. So it shouldn't be a surprise that there are more male brick builders and more female kindergarten teachers. We are still individuals, having strengths and weaknesses. Besides that, at least in Germany we had literally laws till 1990, that forbid women to work at any kind of construction site. So nowadays nearly all construction is still made by men. The state does want to do something against it but it is hard since it is a very gender normed job and sexism cases are not rare. It is the same in the Bundeswehr where they also have a very structural SA problem but they tend to "investigate on their own", which only led in the rarest of the rarest cases to anything (I wonder why there are not so many female applicants lol). Or in general, women in STEM. A structural problem beginning with sexism, being not taken seriously and getting overlooked even with better grades. It is about equality, meaning everyone has the same privilege and chances. We all individually have strengths and weaknesses, and yes some are more gender oriented than others, but jobs where the main requirement is some kind of degree mostly are not affected by it. Statistically women have better work ethics, BA/MA degrees and are more diligent. So why is it that 76% of the managers are male? If you want to come with "women are not as good of a leader as men are" that's crap cause there are a bunch of studies that showed otherwise. Since it won't happen through the already existing, very male favoured, system we need to start at the top aka the power positions to change something structural. Otherwise it won't change. I know you are probably not negatively affected by the system, but try to understand the 50% of the society that are. Cause you wouldn't act differently :) I see it as a new software system. You have the old system with this insane amount of data, so it wouldn't make any sense to completely start at zero. Meaning building something new based on the newest technologies cause it would end in a never ending project because of the insane very specific connected data. So you develop a newer version of the already existing system, changing some parts by hand so it has a better outcome and then you can transfer the data from old to new. It is a start but it surely isn't where it should be.
@minataurus. I'm sorry you feel this way but the feminist movement is destructive at this point and so far removed from the original goal. Every feminist I encounter wants only the boss jobs and still lives the fantasy that men are not needed and thinks they are a 10. Men are natural leaders and far less emotional in their decisions. It's natural instinct. But this is what makes this country still great. You and I each can have t our viewpoint and discuss like adults and not stooped to assumptions because they make you an ass. (And I know that men can also be affected by sexism, but statically and historically till this day by no means as much as women were/are.) I am happy for you feeling this way about how you were treated and paid. Your experience might not be uncommon, but experiencing the opposite does happen nearly as often. (As of 2023, in the US, 42% of asked Women stated they were discriminated at work based on their gender) "The feminist movement is destructive" I don't think it is, I mean yes it has changed of course through the developments in the society but the core idea hasn't changed. With every movement, religion or political belief there are always some who are the loudest and most extrem. Do they represent the whole movement or religion? No. The only thing one can do is talk to them, if they are open to of course. These conversations can have two possible outcomes: 1. The person realises that wanting to do the same to men as men did/do to us is obviously not the way! 2. They go on with whatever they do as before but stop calling themselves a feminist. I know exactly what you mean with the encounters you had with so-called feminists. But I understand them! You will know what I mean, because as women we are very early confronted with sexism. We hoped that by the time we are adults it will be solved. Realising how fcked up everything is in certain situations because of our gender leads to frustration. And I understand that these women are frustrated! I am frustrated as well, otherwise I wouldn't write this comment. We as women, through places and time, worked so so so hard for being equal, realising that we will never see it happen is frustrating. (New studies are stating that equality will be reached in 300 years) "Men are natural leaders and far less emotional in their decisions" Ufff, I don't know if I want to start this discussion. Society wise it is very well known that men are rational and less emotional in their decision making, while women are making decisions based on emotions. These very extreme perceptions, so as the leadership question, were proven untrue years ago by a bunch of separated accountable studies. The known perception is connected with how we look at women and men in general which is based on how we were very gender normed raised. (Girls should be quiet, elegant, delicate, Boys are not allowed to cry, show emotions, need to be the strongest(it all goes back to the good old sexism)) Crying is of course a emotional response but getting loud isn't? Doesn't make any sense... Studies are stating that women and men are experiencing emotions at work alike, so as in the amount of expressing these. The key difference is how they express it. While women cry double as much as men do at work, men are having outbursts and are quitting due to emotions twice as often as women do. Emotional expressions by men are also often caused by criticism, lack of status, having the feeling of being overlooked(which is ironic, isn't it?) and everything that could have something to do with honour or power. At this point of evolution "instinct" isn't a valid argument especially when we look at ancient Norway where women also had high positions as Vikings etc. Maybe all of this is the result of ancient times where men went to war because they were replaceable? You know since women could have the same amount of babies with half the men to ensure survival. If "instinct" would be a valid argument, I wouldn't go out day or night. Also is the "men are more rational" idea untrue, women and men are equally thinking and deciding based on rationality. Our brains are not different nor are we different species nor is one from Venus and the other from Mars. Yes, there is a key difference with our hormonal cycles but both are affecting us alike, for women it is more concentrated once a month. There is not that much of a difference as we think! The difference is made up by the patriarchal system through holding up very extreme, old, unhealthy gender norms for boys and girls for decades even after passing the point in time where intelligence and education was making up the status in society and not physical strength. We are humans and not two separate species. And yes there are obvious biological differences but not to these extremes that would validate stating that men are better leaders or that 76% of leadership positions are held by men. Cause one isn't right and the other one is caused by stereotypes through sexism. Below is a relatively old study/survey linked from the US about all of this. (Which is in some points more and in others less extreme than here in Germany) Last point of this: the results of most surveys hence "who is a better boss/leader" are favouring a female boss due to better social skills, not being less rational than a male boss which after all leads to a better work environment. From what you wrote, you seem very independent, open minded and also educated, so it does make me sad to some extent that you still follow these stereotypical perceptions and feel this way about feminism. The system is old and a lot of those who are in power gain from it while others are suffering. Meaning it will never change! To change a system you need power, so starting with positions holding power is, for me personally, understandable and logical. "But this is what makes this country still great" - Eh, may I ask where you are from? (I don't want to assume the US but referring to a country as "great" is always connected to the US) www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2008/08/25/men-or-women-whos-the-better-leader/
@minataurus. I am in MD a blue state. I know all kinds of discrimination does happen but I don't believe it is as bad as its made out to be. A job at the fire department or anywhere should not have viable standards lowered to accommodate anyone. If you need to be able to do certain things physically, then you need to be able to do it. I have seen where women want senior leadership workload and hours reduced so they can still be a mother while men do not. The job should not change and it is a choice. Go for the higher position later in life when the kids are grown if being a good mother is important. Life is a series of choices and we just cannot have it all, all the time. That's unrealistic expectations. I also do not ever want to be part of a union or paid like one at my job. I bring more to the table and shouldn't be paid what everyone else with the same title is. I fully believe in equality but not equity. They are not the same. I have not stereotyped feminist. I said most that I meet and speak to. To have power, you need to understand what it took to build what you want power over and most don't understand that at all. I have owned my own business with a partner in a male dominated Industry. This critique often surfaces: the focus of many feminists seems to gravitate towards positions of power rather than acknowledging the foundational work done by those in industries like construction. While advocating for equal rights, their true aim appears to be securing more influence for greater control. It's a paradoxical stance-they demand parity in all aspects, yet many are not inclined towards roles like construction. Answer: There aren't as much women as there are men in those positions because it has been proven that they usually don't possess the required qualities to deal with positions of power and leadership, which is rationality and logical capacity, since women tend to resort more to emotions rather than logic. And being emotional beings they tend to let their logic be clouded and usually aren't able to handle the pressure.
Also, regarding politics, and honestly everything else, it is the people that have to show if they trust the person or not in order to select them for those positions, and the people don't tend to trust in emotions, they tend to trust in reason and logic.
Quotas shouldn't be a thing. Let the most qualified person get the position regardless of their gender.
Right but at the moment we dont. You cant tell me that the most qualified persons are 80% men and just 20% woman. It could be but it hints a structural problem. But i agree that quotas are not a good solution

@@grnarsch5287In politics at least, thanks to corruption and nepotism almost none of the politicians are qualified, male or female. It's not about what's in your pants it's about what's in your head.
Psychologically speaking men are more predispositioned towards leadership roles than women. This is just a fact of how evolution formed the male psyche.
Men are more resilient to stress, fear and react more logically and level headedly in times of high stress/danger. This made them better in the field hunters, exposed to danger.
Men are also the leaders of the family because of these traits. Something that over generations built in us the qualities of strong leadership.
Woman CAN be leaders. But Men generally have a leg up compared to them.

It was never about equality. That's called egalitarianism
He hit the nail on the head. It's about power and not equality
Cause you wouldn't act differently :)
I see it as a new software system.
As a natural woman, I feel I have been treated fairly in male dominated worlds and equally paid. I've worked blue and white collar.
I have worked septic systems and fire and rescue. I have wondered where my next meal was coming from. I have survived abuse. So please don't assume I have never been affected.

So first of all, I am sorry that I assumed that you were never affected by sexism. I may have overlooked part of your name and thought you were a guy. Sorry! (And I know that men can also be affected by sexism, but statically and historically till this day by no means as much as women were/are.)
I am happy for you feeling this way about how you were treated and paid. Your experience might not be uncommon, but experiencing the opposite does happen nearly as often. (As of 2023, in the US, 42% of asked Women stated they were discriminated at work based on their gender)
"The feminist movement is destructive"
I don't think it is, I mean yes it has changed of course through the developments in the society but the core idea hasn't changed.
(New studies are stating that equality will be reached in 300 years)
"Men are natural leaders and far less emotional in their decisions"
Ufff, I don't know if I want to start this discussion.
(Girls should be quiet, elegant, delicate, Boys are not allowed to cry, show emotions, need to be the strongest(it all goes back to the good old sexism))
Crying is of course a emotional response but getting loud isn't?
(Which is in some points more and in others less extreme than here in Germany)
Last point of this: the results of most surveys hence "who is a better boss/leader" are favouring a female boss due to better social skills, not being less rational than a male boss which after all leads to a better work environment.
(I don't want to assume the US but referring to a country as "great" is always connected to the US)
www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2008/08/25/men-or-women-whos-the-better-leader/
Earn respect instead of bulldoze in saying I demand it as a female. I know I've made it where I am based on skills and didn't make it simply to fill a quota as the best female candidate. That feels ten times better.
