  • Car started making a whining noise one day, sounds like power steering but it was not. Drove it carefully for a while but finally started to slip and shift hard. I believe something in the transmission got clogged blocking the trans pump or transmission pump just started to fail. Dealer is diagnosing now, how this helps solve anyone's troubles.
****Solved: Transmission Cooler line broke inside the radiator, causing coolant to enter the transmission. If you hear this sound go get the trans fully flushed out and an external cooler installed. This was a common issue on other AWD/4WD Nissan vehicles, beware.

Yes you can drain the transmission catch what comes out and put it back in from the top of the dip stick with a funnel and yes I have an external trans cooler you can add it make sure you get a good brand one online

Hey, I know you said it's common in AWD/4WD vehicles, but mine is a RWD (M35) and I believe it's making a similar noise. The video is on my channel. Do you think I may have the same issue? Itll go into drive and reverse sometimes but itll make that noise other times and won't engage.

I mean it’s totally possible if the transmission on them has the cooler lines that run to the radiator as well. Could also just be the fluid giving up and not circulating properly because the noise is cause by the transmission pump whining without enough fluid or the wrong type of fluid flowing into it and causing cavitation

@@collegegarage793 that makes sense. I found a few other videos of different cars with the same noise. They replaced the torque converter and it solved it for them... I'm gonna do both (TC was failing anyway)

MakMain works I put in the description what was causing it, coolant got into my transmission since the trans cooler line broke inside the radiator and blew the trans

Best thing to do is to flush transmission fluid and pray it didn’t dry the clutch packs

My coolant hoes broke and about a week later my car is making the same noise as your video. You think it can be the transmission?
