Slinger main, here. Finally a guide for my favorite weapon!
Álvaro Vasconcelos i have a video on how to defeat Xeno whit Slinger ammo only (solo) 😒😁
Have slinger mains replaced kick mains?
carving knife is my weapon of choice
Álvaro Vasconcelos I use net only. Net main
Legend
1. Scatternut = Crystalburst
2. both of them can be used when mounting monsters. Press L2 + R2 to shoot when mounting, only a few shots then it brings you to finisher (no more wasting time in 1,1,1,1)
:O this is a game changer!
NANI!?
Scatternuts are also a guaranteed flinch if you hit a monster. I've interrupted more Diablos charges than I can count to save hunters.
Also, use crystalburst when a monster is trying to flee an area, just one hit will make them stop and fight.
just tested that bomb pod also brings to finisher as fast as scatternut.
it seems that the stun effect from ammo gets the job done.
Anyone else blown away by the level of detail the devs put into this?? I've never played these games before, but MHW is an amazing!
It feels like I'm getting to finally fight the bosses of other games that *felt* like their bosses *should* have been a real challenge. Yet it's so much more than that. I'm loving this one so far and the last one I played I was not a fan of.
Joseph Ramirez agree! I'm down to 136 hours so far and I'm not even bored of it most games get boring after playing it awhile.
Caring is what separates the field in a great game. Look at all the crap released in 2018 and look at the few games that stand above the rest.
metal gear solid también tiene una gran cantidad de detalles
It's incredibly deep. I love it. I just started playing the game and am 30 hours in, it's pretty tough learning everything. I can't wait until I learn the ropes and start making different builds!
If you fire a watermoss at the Tobi-Kadachi while he's in his "gliding" animation before a tail attack, it makes him fall to the ground, giving hunters a bit of time to land free hits.
ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ awesome! Will try this on my next hunt!
Only tested it with insect glaive, but i think any damage while he is gliding should knock him down (could just be glaive though)
How do yoy shot
Went into the video thinking I would already know everything covered, but was pleasantly surprised to learn some new info.
Yeah didn't know the bright moss one
And then the comments adding in double the info and tips
Slinger Torches can also be fired at Vaal Hazak’s mouth when he is using his effluvium breath “laser” attacks. It makes the laser go away but the animation continues so you can hit it in the face freely. You can also hit him a few times in the body when you see the effluvium flowing around him to dissipate it and make it safe to attack him in close range.
Orafaun I'll have to give that a try, thanks for the tip!
Does this apply to all 3 of the laser attacks? There’s the forward one, the ground pointed one, and the waking up radical one.
Gotta try it out tonight.
Pongze Lor I know it works for the sweeping one and I think I have used it on the forward one. Not sure about the other.
Orafaun
Anyone who doesn't want to deal with the Effluvium at all should equip the Great Girros Coil and three Miasma decorations.
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!
The slinger, the secret 15th weapon
Replacing Prowler, I suppose.
What about the 16th, *_Fishing rod?_*
The net tho
THERE'S BEEN A BREAKTHROUGH IN SCIENCE!!!
BRIGHTPODS ARE USEFUL!!!
NGOtaku I never knew their usefulness other than they look beautiful and we're in my top three slinger Ammo. My other two being dungpod and thornpod. But I'm glad they are officially useful
And now in Iceborne they can be used(along with the regular green moss) to sop up and clear the water from the ground in the Namielle fight.
The piercing pod can also cut off tails. I cut off Xeno's tail last night when I shot it at his face and it when through to his tail and cut it off. I was surprised too!
I've tested this. Pierce definitely does cutting damage.
I KO'd an Anji the other day with a Watermoss to the face and I couldn't stop laughing afterward. I'd say it's a real mechanic.
Just another tip for you hunters out there the red ammo the monster drops will make them flinch if you do that while there limping away it will make them re engage you so you don’t have to chase it down the same affect will happen with the crystalburst granted if the monster limps to far it might not work but figured I’d let you all know
Gavin Schwartz I always wondered where those came from because there'd be 2-3 ammo drops and I know I didn't drop them. Just last night, I was doing the Legiana storyline quest and it started flying off (but I used my flash pods) and noticed the ground littered with them.
Aaron Oxenreider yes they normally appear after you break stuff on the monster
Well break stuff on the monster or do enough damage past a certain point (in the case of elder dragons/last boss). dropped slinger ammo probably only reason why i beat xenojiva really
It's actually health thresholds, they drop for 30/20/10% (? iirc) health remaining.
Wow, thanks for all this guys! :)
Piercing pods are the most satisfying when you hit a monster that are trying to get away
Wow, I honestly wasn't expecting the slinger to be so in depth, nor did I expect to learn even more about this game. I literally thought this was just a video for newcomers, and just watched it because it keeps notifying me.
Great coverage on this game bro, I mean the best of anyone I've watched so far; and my main screen is filled with nothing but MHW videos from people I'm subscribed to and from others I never even heard of.
I hear the game makers actually refer to these Arekkz' videos.
Water moss works the same with rathalos to put out the fire BEFORE it sends out its attack. I usually get slinger sniper at the end of my multiplayer missions because ive loved looking for these little extras the devs left for us fans
finally something I want to comment on.
Scatternuts also allow you to flinch monsters out of most of their animations. This can be handy for saving yourself or a teammate from attacks or fireballs. It can also prevent monsters from running away. As you interrupt their fleeing animation and they begin trying to fight you again. You could also use this to stop them once they get somewhere you want to fight them.
Another handy tip is using your slinger once you've mounted a monster. When you hold L2 and R2 it will zoom in on you as you aim your slinger at them (sadly no free aiming to bring something down on them which is why i initially never did this) but i have found several uses for this so far. Again, use scatternuts to interrupt its attempts to shake you off. Jump to its head and use thorn pods before you start stabbing away to deal that extra damage with each stab. Or just try to blow its face off with bomb pods ect. Hope you find this handy Arekkz and anyone else who reads!
Outbreak Anon I never knew you could use slinger while mounting! Thanks for the tip!
Animania freak I've come to learn that Salinger bombs are especially useful to speed up the process. Use all three while mounting and if the monster doesn't fall you'll be able to finish it quickly
If you use crystal burst on Uragaan while it's rolling you can knock it over.
Noted!
Also, Piercing pods are not only dropped by monsters, but also gotten by kicking Iron Helmcrabs
Oh yeah! Good point, thanks for bringing this up! :D
TwisteDxBoi the little dialog of the researcher who explains this to you is hilarious. “Just kick them gently, they won’t mind” something like that anyway.
Soldier helmcrabs in the Rotten Vale drop slinger thorns and Bomb beetles in Elder's Recess drop bomb pods if they're rolling a rock around, although it's not guaranteed. However, you only get one of each ammo type from helmcrabs and beetles instead of a full stack.
kicking a poor helmet crab... you monster
This is part of why I love mh. 200 hours in on world and still always something to learn. Thank you for the info kind sir!
I started my MH Experience with World and was an utter noob about everything but thanks to your videos i got behind so many of the secret things and stuff that is not directly explained somewhere ingame, just wanted to leave you a thanks for the great work you put into your videos and that you made and make me enjoy Monster Hunter World even more than i would have without your great input.
I don't know if it was already mentioned but scatternuts and crystalbursts work the same way. They both can flinch monsters out of most animations and can force a monster to stop running away when limping.
Crystal burst is good for keeping nergigante in the crystal area. Shoot him as he limps away and he'll turn to fight you again. Useful for not fighting him in his small sleeping arena
This video is much better than I thought. No idea of all of the many uses. Specially from the Torch pod dissipating gases?! Amazing, thanks!
Was going to recommend this video, glad to see you make it.
videos like this are why I love this channel. you explain stuff nobody else does and do so in a good way without the cliche obnoxious youtube personality or begging for subs. thank you for these qol videos and your in depth tutorials.
you can use some slinger amo that does decent damage/flinch the monster when they run away. it usually makes them stop and begin to fight again.. so it helps saves 30 second of running
You can also hit the wyverns above the sand pit to summon diablos.
Dolphinboi I believe that would be for monster guide
He should make one where it shows a monster unique weakness, cause I didn't know that Tobi electricity can be reduced via water moss
When I fight a Barroth, I bring a fire weapon and pick up a water moss on the way, his fight becomes extremely easy.
Actually, found 2 high ranking player on a hunt for a Barroth and they didn't know about the water moss.
He means hit them easily with any slinger ammo, since it's much easier to use the slinger than to hit them while they're flying around. That's why he posted it here, and not on a monster guide video.
You can summon diablos AND fuck over barroth if you time it right.
can't you just draw a hexagonal star circle and use the blood of the handler to summon diablo anywhere?
*ARISE, DEMON!*
Useful! I didn't get serious about learning the slinger until late game so I often did not know how practical some of the ammo was.
The video I didn't know I needed. Great vid!
Nice editing in this, love the matching visuals.
THANK YOU!!
I've been a fan of MH since Tri on the Wii and am pretty clued up on stuff, but I just couldn't get to grips with the slinger in World!!
Can't wait to try it out more! :D
Oh wow, lot of cool info here. Thank you I had no idea about how useful the torch pods were.
The torch pod in the rotten vale part is what made me subscribe.
This is really helpful, Arekkz.
Great vid. Had no idea about brightmoss!!
Never underestimate video like this. You will always know something new! Thank you arrekz
Might've been worth mentioning the knives, though it does suck that they are now supply items only.
Dude your videos help me out so much! I just started the game but i find alot help in your videos! The game is amazing i love it! Thx alot for all the info keep up the great work!
frkev1908 rotterdam This guy, gaijin hunter and Rurikhan are amazing with their videos for this game. I'm a newbie to this series as well and they've helped me a LOT. I thought I made a mistake buying the game till I watched a Hammer tutorial.
Ty ive always used the slinger a lot on my hunts cause I use sword n shield, this video was helpful so ty honestly I'm pretty sure the redpit and stone ammo can also stun the monster or just apply the effects a lil, every time I shoot the stones in a monsters face it makes the same sound, like if I was hitting it with my shield, or even with my hammer.
Surprisingly helpful. Well done
Bro I know you likely wont see this, but not only is this super helpful, but so are all your videos. One of the things I love about this game is there's always so much more to discover. Your videos help digest this. Great work.
my fav. youtube ch man please keep making more content i love you!
Oh yes thanks for this! I've been wondering what all the other slinger ammos do!
Awesome video. I was not aware the bright Moss could do that. Will be trying that out in the future. Keep up all the good work.
I really enjoy using the slinger, so thank you for this informative video. I'm sure I'll keep coming back to it to remind myself of the types of ammo and their uses. :)
to add one thing, which I used all the time of these sling ammo, is to use it when the monsters are crippling and trying to flee, you can easily use piecing ammo or bomb ammo to let it come back toward you to let you finish it off at scene, rather than following it all the way to its den.
Most of the time I use my slinger to break Kelbi's horn with a stone. Better than killing it since breaking its horn will guaranteed a horn drop.
You can also use the capture net for this I believe.
Thank you for this information. I've learned a couple of things from this.
My first mh game since my minimal time ten years ago on psp and every time I have an issue or question I come here. Great tips man love your channel
You can use brightboss to scare off shamos, if fired at the floor it will intimidate them but if you shoot them with it theyll run off
Thorn pods are very effective at taking down paolumu when fired at his expanded balloon sac
and now i know. the torch pod, and watermoss ones were two i dont even think about, now im excited to get back in the hunt
thanks, was hoping someone would cover this topic :)
Slinger bomb does stun damage too, probably the most out of all of them in my experience. Dragon pods also negate the dragon shields (ie kush will lose his windshield, teo his flame aura etc) much like all elderseal weapons.
He does point out the Dragon Pods having the elder seal effect.
This! Is a game changer for me. I had no idea how vital the slinger is.
If you could cover environmental traps for noobs like myself that would be amazing.
UM, ROCKS, you drop rocks on shit, thats literally all their is to it, fuck are gamers just getting dumber each and every day?
Andrew Mahabir and crystals and bones. I actually didn't know about the lava trap in elders recess but that's probably because I avoid that shithole like the plague.
And the Lynian nets if you wanna call those traps
There are also a few places that mimic a pitfall trap (vine area anjanath sleeps in, large blue mushroom flooring in coral highlands). Big hits/monster flinches cause then to fall into the ground leaving them open to free hits for a few seconds
You hit the rocks on the roof with your slinger, and then they fall on the monster, that’s about it. The swinging thing is done with L2+ O
Does anyone know whether you could throw Stones at stunned teammates?
You can!
Haha! that's hilarious (and useful!)
Very informative thank you
Another tip that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned. Your slinger can be used whilst mounting a monster.
I didn't know half of these, especially the Bright Moss one. Going to keep a mental note on this
I've made it my job to test out every Slinger ammo I'd love the Slinger and I love being able to shoot different things at monsters it gives you a chance to heal it gives you some ranged damage if your melee user. It's also kind of cool to see how certain monsters react to certain amount of damage plus if you know you're about to stun something a quick hit in the head with something like that could need to break a part even kill the monster
i literally didnt know half this stuff thank you so much
Scatter nuts also have high flinch damage to them. It usually stops a monster from doing animations/attacks and makes it easy to knock flying monsters out of the air in a few shots.
Super helpful, thank you
Even though this would probably be a long video I'd love to see a skills in depth video if possible. I've seen others asking about it so its definitely something people want to see. For me personally it isn't a absolute necessity but I'd like to have that extra bit of knowledge. Even though I've defeated the final boss I'm basically a Monster Hunter noob considering this is the first game of the franchise I've ever played. So more often then not I'm struggling to decide on what skills to use for which weapons even though multiple skills are viable I'd like to have some in depth information as to why i should one over the other. But i understand if this would take up to much time to make.
There’s very few people who could keep me entertained while talking about in-game stones and fruit, I’m impressed
Surprisingly informative video Arekkz. I knew the basic uses of the slinger ammo but turns out that isn't much... Lol
This video was worth it just to find out that you can fire while prone. Thank you for that.
Huh. Never knew that about bright moss. Thanks!
Another great video from my favorite mh world creator
i never knew about bright moss, thanks for the info.
When fighting the Diablos, I fired a brightmoss because I thought I had flash equipped, but then when it dug underground there was a light circle, where the diablos was. and as the circle moved so did the diablos. Probably not useful but it is pretty neat.
You are a good man. Thank you
bit newer, but past the first rank cap now. thank you for mentioning that you can use the slinger in the pinned animations. wow.
Thanks for the vid! Its nice to learn new things about the game even after 130 hours of play :)
I can confirm for you that Water Pods do indeed put out Anjanath's fire, as I've done the same with both the pods as well as Water element weapons. At first I wasn't sure either and assumed it was a general flinch but I shot specifically at his mouth the next time he started spewing fire and my water arrows put it out.
You can also make a Kulu-Ya-Ku drop it’s rock of shot with slinger pods.
I’ve yet to see a CZcamsr do it, and it makes fighting it even easier!
you mentioned this with the torch pod but, brightmoss, when fired at a wall, or the ground will also attract insects and cause them not to attack you. They will gather around and stare at it for a while. The most notable use for this was if you have to do the lump of meat delivery in the rotten vale where you can distract all the horntaurs and vespoids.
this helped so much
I had no idea about the torch pods weakening Lavasioth armor. Thanks!
Hit a Juyratodas with a Brightmoss and you can see it swimming underwater!.
Had my suspicions about the thorn pod but this video confirmed it. It looks like I'll be using the water and bright moss more often.
Well jeez, and here I thought the only use for brightmoss was to take pictures of rudolph monsters.
well im going to have much more fun with them now
Ive also noticed that while fighting in groups, crystalburst and scatternuts immediately direct agro to you
Piercing Pods can also cut tails. I've done so on Radobaan, worked at the tail with a Long Sword, picked up the Piercing pods he likes to drop, let one loose from head to tail and off came his tail.
Thank you for the rotten vale scorch pod heads up
I've noticed that crystalburst and scatternuts are really good at staggering monsters out of attacks and brightmoss seems to be pretty effective at warding off Shamos (which the game says are sensitive to light). I'm not entirely sure about this last one but it also seems that the lava geyser trap in the elders recess goes off very shortly after firing torch pods at it. That one might be worth testing
in the wildspire waste in the cave where rathian sleeps there are these weird purple things on the floor and if you shoot a torch pod at it it sets off a way bigger flame that lasts way longer. haven't found much of a use for it though.
About the Anjanath stun,
To stop its fire attacks, you have to hit the glowing organ on its throat. Doesn’t matter what you hit it with
Thanks bro great vid.
Glad to hear watermoss has more uses besides barroth n jyura. Also wasn't too sure bout drgn n nerg's spikes. Have you done any testing concerning watermoss n teostra? Cuz there's some nearby when entering the volcanic part of the recess
You missed that Piercing Pods can cut tails, you have also yet to mention the Dragon Piercer from the Bow can cut tails
very useful tkx so much
Huh, I thought I knew everything about slinger ammo... apparently I can have an easier time with Lavasioth now. Thanks Arekkz. :)
Crystalburst can also force monsters that are running away to aggro you again. I've been using it to keep a limping nergi that's about to get away to stay in the big open area and kill him there
earned yourself a sub from this
Piercing Pod can be used to cut tails. I severed a tail using a hammer by wailing on it a ton then shooting it with a piercing pod.
The slinger is amazing. I'm just starting out with this game and I had massive problems with the Tobi Kadachi, especially since I like to use small, fast, close range melee weapons and I always seem to get knocked over by an attack before I can get any good damage in with combos or apply my poison effects. Using the slinger to hit venom cups and poison it, firing watermoss at its tail, firing scatternuts at its head to stun or flinch it and then applying poison with my sword and shield... it made the fight so much easier.
Imo piercing pod is slightly different from, say, pierce 1 from a bowgun, in that it doesn’t matter too much how much length the attack lasts, it always deals at least 4-5 damages. I’ve tried pierce pod horizontally on odogaron and got maybe four hits, while piercing shot might only give me two. I could be wrong.
Try firing one down the length of the final boss, you'll see it does a LOT of hits, perhaps the farther along the monster the pod travels though, the fewer hits it gets? You might be on to something
Ya, the pod gets more prox but it has a lower damage threshold.
Piercing pods do gain more hits the closer you are to the monster.
it feels like piercing pods have a special flinch property that pierce ammo does not have
Holy shit was this informative. Thanks for the upload!
I enjoy throwing brightmoss at vespoids xD it makes them glow!
Git Gud it's one of my three favorite slinger Ammo! I do that too haha. My other two are Dung Pods (there my number one) and then I think my third is those Thorn Pods. The kind that are thorny balls that stick on the monster.s I'm really not sure the point of em but they look cool :)
Mudshrooze Thorn pods do knockout damage when hit after being attached, so if you try to aim for the monster's head, they can help get a knockdown even if you use a bladed weapon.
HillelTaco awesome! Thank you
Since I main sword and shield I've been really interested in how to learn to use my slinger better. Thanks!
