      TagBackTV Mushroomancer set piece is better than wasting max potions or nutrients just eat 5 different mushrooms to get max hp, max stamina, attack bonus, defense bonus, and the wiggly litchi stamina buff.

    • @GilgameshOfUrok

      It also stacks with mega demon drug and mega armorskin, and if you're feeling crazy you can stack again with might pills and adamant pills during fights (pills only last 30 seconds)

      There are some pretty good skills for specific things like rare farming or team assistance, but I usually don't bother either. Not that they aren't worth using, but I don't really bother grinding for that much, or plan to carry other players with skills like insurance. And if you don't plan on dying or dealing with diminished rewards, it's just for failure prevention. Skills are good and all, but they're not for all players. Most are just out to get the max health bonus.

    Also, unless there's something I don't understand about how saving custom platters works, it's kind of pointless if you're really trying to get those skills. It's going to save exactly which items you picked, but the fresh ingredients are random so you could be missing the fresh items of the same skill type if you just use your saved platter.
    You would literally have to hand craft a platter EVERY TIME to give you the best chance of getting skills.

      @Master Rayam Time for a late reply to a late question. Most ingredients can be easily found or by doing quests. The last few I believe are much rarer rewards from gathering and small monsters, etc. I do not actually have them all myself, so I might be totally wrong.

    • @dowfreak7
      @dowfreak7 Před 5 lety +5

      @Sleksin, you're about right. You get food from optional quests the chef gives, from research quests like "catch me those ants" that you get from researchers out in the field, from research nodes like sunbloom, gourmet shrooms etc. and lastly from some special quests (like the brew you get from the third fleet master).
      Special shoutout to the shitty shit crake that can go fuck itself, because you'll have to reload the same two areas for hours to find and capture it.
      Apart from that, the rarest that you might be missing, are only found from research nodes in certain conditions (like "Upsurge: Amber" is necessary and then you'll need to find a specific node, that only shows up during this upsurge to get the specific item).

      Mega Nutrients and ancient potions are tedious as hell to make so I just go with 5 out of 6 fresh item and use the last one to top of any buffs. You don't need elemental buffs if you have 25 of whatever element you're fighting (like 25 fire against an Uragaan), and the real buff I'd sacrifice HP for is if we had some status resistance like stun or paralysis against Girros etc.
      I will say this is great video though. I always support informative videos, since MHs don't always tell you what some things can do.

    I use a moss swine mask and a mushroomancer charm loadout, eat some mushrooms to do the same as the max potion, immunizer, armorskin, demondrug, and dashjuice from a handful of mushrooms. It's cheap, easy, and takes no time to change loadouts. All of them last until death except the immunizer which is 10 minutes. Then your canteen trip is exclusively for the dmg/def/ or skills. If I die, just switch loadouts, eat some shrooms, and back at it. Put some speed eating armor pieces in the mix and it takes almost no time at all.

    • @ShinachiHChan
      @ShinachiHChan Před 5 lety +6

      Doesn't the canteen's buffs stack with armor and power drugs?
      I figure it's best to use max potions and line up attack (L) with the felyne skills if you already have enough defense.
      And with canteen defense/elemental resistance (L) when fighting tougher bosses like arch-tempered monsters.
      But for the most part, the easier monsters aren't worth farming max potions, and don't require much prep.

    • @dowfreak7
      @dowfreak7 Před 5 lety +1

      I mean, yes, health and stamina are pretty important, but you really don't need to "farm" for max potions, unless you're like 6 hours in.
      Once you get your second slot on the botanical stuff you can get so much shit, that you really don't need to farm anything. Stamina will always be full, as long as you eat at the canteen at least. Often you'll get at least like 10-30hp on top of that and then you can just blast the max potion when you've taken like 1-2 hits for maximum efficiency.
      Your experience in previous MH games is useless, considering a lot has changed in MHW. I literally have like 200 mandragora shrooms and 40 max potions right now and I've not even cultivated mandragora for a while now.
      Also the more damage you do, the less you'll need to heal. MHW is about DPS-racing in the very most fights and I pretty much only go for sth like Elemental Resist against shit like Lunastra or tempered Teostra.

  • @Dieinhell100
    @Dieinhell100 Před 6 lety +45

    Hey, thanks for a further explanation of the canteen. I knew the fundamentals but never really looked into the skills themselves.
    The Attack (L) seems to be a fairly good raw damage boost. It adds a flat 15 raw damage, which is the equivalent of having a level 5 Attack Boost armor ability.
    Although one thing bothers me.... Are you actually going against Meowscular Chef's Choice?!

  • @LordOfElm
    @LordOfElm Před 6 lety +19

    The other awesome benefit is that by the time you've actually selected your custom meal and joined someones quest the monster may already be limping.
    Really though, custom meals are cool but more complicated than they have ever been.
    The registration of custom meals I find particularly frustrating, since it's not selecting a number of type (meat/fish/veggie/alchy) & color, but exact ingredients. You're better served going into the individual selection every single time to try and get the freshest combination, unless you do all one color and type all the time.

    Problem with custom meals: Activation chance is based on ingredient freshness. If you make a custom meal with the skills you want, chances are very high that it's going to have little to no fresh ingredients, meaning there is a very high chance you're not even going to get the skills.
    Chefs choice saves you a max potion and has the highest chance of skill activation. Custom meals are a complete waste of time unless you're using a food voucher, in which case I would agree, but even then the skills you get are (for the most part) lackluster and really don't do a lot.

This leaves new players at a loss because there's no tutorial on how to actually get better food, how to obtain the ingredients, and what better ingredients mean to them. In fact when I started it actually was NEVER explained at all and i believe it was just ASSUMED that everyone knew what and how the system worked. I still don't really know how the system works and i've completed the ENTIRE questline and there still isn't any explanation as to how it works.

    • @enochianlaw8621
      @enochianlaw8621 Před 6 lety

      Sure thing! I just finished the Xeno last night actually, so story wise, I'm pretty sure I'm finished, I have arena quests 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 unlocked. Not sure if the Rank matter on these, or changes, but respectively, they are LR1, LR2, LR4, HR6, HR6, HR7, HR8, and HR9.
      After looking at your video about the Brigade and Guild armor, it seems I don't have the Tsi-Tsi-Ya Ku quest (number 4) compared to you, but I know I have captured and slain it multiple times in the story. I also know my friend, whom I've played with in its entirety, doesn't have as many quests as I have.
      Also, looking now, surprisingly, I don't have the optional quest "Say Cheese" finished on this playthrough, so it may just be that. If it is, then not only is some information brought to light about how to unlock the quests, but it would still make for a very nice, informative video, I think.

    • @enochianlaw8621
      @enochianlaw8621 Před 6 lety

      Update: Indeed, after finishing "Say Cheese" I did unlock that arena quest. Now I suppose I know how to make sure all the arena quests are unlocked, which is nice. Now the last question I suppose, is if these 9 quests are all of the arena quests. I suppose the best way to find that out, (and to unlock the commission armor for those who don't know) is to complete all of the optional quests!

      When I'm gathering I use the ale's and drinks to eat for the skill that allows me to gather extra times. When I hammer, slugger, and I can feel the difference. Health, Stamina, Attack, Defence and Elemental to a degree (using mantles) can be buffed greater than food with items (Max Potions, Well Done Steaks, Ancient Potions, Mega Demondrug/Amorskin and the Elemental Mantles) so the food becomes solely about the skills which is a big thing. Try it out it helps a lot dude.

      Jason Lobo again there's no guarantee of anything but it makes you more confident and can benefit you greatly. If you build a good set of armor skills you can use food skills as an added skill eg. I have handicraft on my weapon that pushes the blue sharpness in to white sharpness, I also have a skill that prevents my sharpness from depleting for a short time after sharpening. I eat for felyne polisher too which speeds up my sharpening greatly and I've got a good combo. You could go for felyne moxie and it could possibly save you from the nerg dive that you 100% dodged but the game fucked you over, you were prepared for that though cos you ate for that situation and your time isn't ruined.

    Great video, and I appreciate the effort you put in. However, I am way too lazy to use anything but the chefs choice. If min/maxing actually made a huge difference, I might consider it.

      @@TagBackTv Shitty advice, man. I'm sorry, but it really is. Even if this guy was just being sarcastic.
      This video was a giant, gaping hole of terrible advice. Mostly for newcomers, players coming from all or most past MH games, and people that actually have to work for a living.
      There are too many problems with these canteen videos, like time-to-craft, individual experiences of the players themselves, and a whole list of other reasons. It would great if it weren't so literal in its intentions, but you don't give people pros AND cons. You just approached a broad spectrum of different level players and shoved your advice down their throats.
      You're videos have a good intention behind them. I believe that. But experienced players already know what's best for them, and new players look at this as a how-to video, with none of the drawbacks, like what's actually available to them.
      Maybe add some of the accessibility issues of being early to mid-game and it won't sound like you're pitching your own opinion like it's absolute. Good advice is speculative and won't try to force players to play the same as others. Again, love how it shows new players other ways to approach hunts, but you gotta tone down the forceful advice, or at least tone down the name of the videos, my friend.

    • @TagBackTv
      @TagBackTv  Před 6 lety +1

      It's really not. Also love that you try and target my profession haha, shows how little you actually know. Considering at this time I spent the majority of my free time playing with both new and old players and getting tons of information from the community. Every live stream people would be asking questions about the canteen, this was a huge information gap at the time for new people. So many people just use chef's choice because they see the increased health thinking it is the best.
      While it may be hard to eat specific meals early game (low rank) understanding the importance the canteen can play later in the game is important. Anyone can easily do the optional quests to unlock ingredients or gather for rare ingredients at any point, although you can only get ALL ingredients once you unlock the elder's recess, which is where eating for specific meals can start being a major advantage, ESPECIALLY for new players, because they are actually still learning the game and the fights.

    stop using chef choice... why? just learn to use a hunting horn and bring the right mantle, tempered Kirin cares not for your food choices or your stat bonuses, if your within eye contact your already half health.

    Wow this is just about useless, I'm not even joking. The reason why I use Chef's Choice is because everything they give you is guaranteed (not 100% of the time of course but most of the time), I'll just keep using it until I complete majority of the quest they have for meals.
    Also I don't need to waste items if I use Chef's Choice, majority of the time I'm going to need health potions later on the quest to boost my health if I faint. There really isn't a need for this video unless you're showing us how to get specific abilities. My opinion, sorry but I don't find this informative about the canteen that you can't just learn from playing the game. (Other than finding out about the vouchers being obtained in the arena, thank you)

      I feel this video is useful mainly for the people who keep just using the chef's choice even when they're struggling. Most of the time the bonuses and skills aren't needed, but I guess some people are basically unaware that they even exist.
