      The way it looks depends on the car but my problem is with police. The plastic ones can be put on for car shows or cruising the beach and taken off the rest of the time. These wraps are semi-permanent and it's gonna hurt your wallet if cops give you a hard time. Slightly different but happened to me when I tinted my entire front windshield with 50% tint and had to remove it a couple months later. If you self install it's only a couple bucks but customers will get pissed and cry foul.

    Thanks so much for the vid. I feel comfortable trying this after watching you explain the process. I bought extra film just in case though! As far as the light emitted by the tail lights, There was a noticable difference between the light and dark smoke imo. I'm glad I got the light smoke. The dark looks good but I feel that's just asking to get pulled over rocking that dark smoke. Thanks a bunch for the tips and advice!

    Hey Christian
    I'm thankful for your tutorials and they've helped me to understand TECHNIQUE and to get the best performance from the product with the use of the right tools. I've not been overly inclined towards tinting of exterior tights for a few reasons. The cosmetic reason appeals to me, for instance, I am doing a complete blackout restoration on my car. Headlamps and tail lamps are being retrofitted, so there is going to be some finesse in their appearance, but the greatest functionality is focused light output. I might want a light smoked tint to allow the lamps to blend with the body of the car. I am not even giving a thought to nightshade paint (tinted clearcoat). The moment that the law becomes strict about impairments to light output, I'll want to tear it off with a finger nail.
    So, a couple of comments.
    What you're referring to is called a light meter or lux meter. Its my humble opinion that in order to support your claims of limited loss of light (there will always be a loss) is through the use of a light meter. Where headlights specifically are concerned, one must adopt a different driving style if they choose fashion over function, and the light meter is going to either support or oppose your claims - scientifically. I'm assuming that part of the lessons in choice of vinyl and various applications, you want to edify people in making informed decisions. So, how about backing it up with facts that they can see? It was obvious to see the loss of light output with the darker tint, but it hasn't been measured for people to understand the impact on lighting and how severely it can be in real world driving. The camera adjusting automatically is skewing the light output that we can see on whatever display we're using.
    Park the car in front a wall from about 25 feet, turn off all the lights in the shop and use the light meter to display the facts and the percentage that is lost due to tint - before and after. BMW and other manufacturers produce insanely bright exterior lights and it does appear that they are more than adequate for the tail lamps... as long as they can be visible enough in the daytime. Reading the lux for tail lamps may not be as practical as it is for headlamps since we're driving forward most of the time.
    I think that if you use the light meter, you can help to edify and emphasise that safety is a concern that should not be ignored, particularly for street use. If its strictly a show-car, then no one really cares, right?

    Thank you for your awesome vids and detailed explanations. What I would love to see (have yet to see a video showing this with this new tint) is light output of non tinted headlight vs light smoke in real life situation...ie. on a dark road, or even outside against a wall, in the dark. Seeing just the tinted headlight itself with the lights on doesn't really help as it does not give any indication of how light output is impacted on the road at night. For me, this is critical.

I have tint on them and is passable standing back, but geez, it looks like a 5 year old did it when you get close. They have 3 convex "bubbles" that protrude significantly across the face of the lens. No matter how I try to do the initial stretch, I end up fighting with bunching one way or another around those globe-like protrusions. If these lights aren't the biggest PITA out there, they have to be close. Any tips?

    I just did my Q7 bumper lights last night ... I've used laminX wet app on my past several vehicles but wanted to give this product a try as the optical clarity and film color looked really good in your video and you had great things to say about it.
    Pretty straight forward and easy install ... the heat app makes it easy to work around curves and bunching. The end result is there's a bit of isolated areas of haze and very light streaking/glue lines, even though I didn't really stretch the material (maybe these are air release channels? I'm new to dry app tint so not sure what I'm looking at) ... I didn't do the initial heat and stretch as my lights are very flat and it was a simple lay down and smooth out, and I was a little paranoid about glue lines from heat stretch ... from my understanding the glue lines are a result of stretching the material to the point the glue becomes separated and uneven on the material (just like vinyl wrap). Does the initial heat before laying it down relax the glue and help with optical clarity?
    I'm hoping as these set on the car over time things will dissapate. LaminX used to have similar results immediately after but the optical clarity & consistency worked itself out over the course of a week or two. Hopefully this product is similar and the glue gets comfortable on the lense and evens out.

Any suggestions on how to not have the hazing marks ?

    Hey Christian, this film looks great and It goes on pretty easy. The gloss compared to the previous headlight film is awesome. Unfortunately I cant seem to get a final result without glue lines behind it, every time the film is pulled off the light to readjust or flatten it out, it leaves stress marks on the glue. Heat does help to get rid of the lines a little bit but some of them just don't disappear and leaves very noticeable lines behind the film. Any advice you have to avoid them or is it just how this film is.

It would make me feel better if he showed with lights on. I've tried hard to install without lifting and STILL get glue streaks. If he still gets glue marks then I know there is nothing I can do. Almost seems like there isn't enough adhesive on the wrap and goes on kind of dry (in a matter of speaking) causing streaking, hazing , fogging . I have a G70 with LED lights. By far the brightest headlights of any car I've ever owned. I put the vvivid light smoke tint on my headlights, it lowered my light output so much that it's borderline unsafe to drive at night. I drive 90% back roads without street lights and I don't feel comfortable even going the speed limit because there isn't enough light on the road ahead.
    It's just something to think about. Even the light smoke is too dark for me. It would be more acceptable in the summer months with more daylight hours, but as of this time of year, most of my driving is in the dark. It had to come off. If I get brave enough, I'll open them up and paint them black.

      I agree - I used Vvivid's holographic hex, clear wrap on my headlights and while I think it looks amazing, I STILL noticed decreased light output during dark drives, and that's with an almost completely clear wrap - I can't imagine the decrease in output when using a dark tint... definitely something to consider.

      The "dark" secret nobody tells you. These types of tints are unsafe and ridiculous. Do they look cool? I guess if you don't realize how detrimental they are...

    how's the life of this product? last time i used vvivid tint the film started falling off the adhesive that became brittle and white after 2 years. removal was a nightmare as well.

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  Před 2 lety

      Even the previous generation I had lasted me 3 years on my car in the hot sun too. It removed without leaving adhesive behind. I even did a video on it for CZcams. This new version is supposed to last even longer

    Im so nervous to tint my own headlights. Mainly because it’s my first time and I don’t want to fuck up and waste the tint that I bought.

    Hey bro I have done all my own cars thanks to you. Currently just finishing my new M5 Competition I have to say it does look good but when light hits it it looks pretty bad. I'm no expert but even the spots it layed down on and never was touched again you can see the glue everywhere.
    I guarantee this has got to be an issue with this stuff. Like I said I'm no expert but I'd feel comfortable doing a job along side of you any day except days that end with a Y. Lol
    No really please tell me it's an issue?

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  Před rokem

      It would be difficult to assess the issue without seeing what it looks like.

      @@CKWraps Thanks for the reply I found if you put some heat on it and use a quality micro fiber and go over a few times it gets much better. I'm thinking in the summer time, prolly wouldn't have much trouble. It's been pretty cold at night here in Nor Cal. Garage is warmer but still pretty cold.
      It's almost like it needs to cure out in hot sun. Idk 🤷‍♂️ Thanks Again! And thanks for the videos, I've watched 100s maybe over a 1000 of how to videos and you sir are in the top 5 for sure! To the point, get it done , have a nice day. Thanks again!

      @@CKWraps I also wanted to clarify I see it when I shine an led light on it. It hasn't been in the sun yet as I'm doing a bunch of mods, so hopefully it's fine. Anyway that's what I meant by light hitting it.

    I'd just like to say maybe if you left 1/2 of one light without any film on it you could show what the light was without any film on it when you turn the cars lights on.
