  • Gore Vidal discusses his book, “At Home.” He begins by explaining how the book is a compilation of twenty-four of his essays. The essays cover a six-year span and deal with controversial topics such as his plea that the United States make common cause with the Soviet Union against “the Sino-Japanese axis” and his criticism of the American pro-Israel lobby. He goes on to give his thoughts and opinions on both President Nixon and President Reagan.

@ 19:50 Even so-called professionals, broadcasters being a relevant example, have dumbed down their speech. "So, yea, like hey guys...". And Gore's take was long before the rise of the ubiquitous L word.

Gore was wrong about Israel: it has become one of the USA's main technological trading partners, both military and non-military technologies, including the Iron Dome technology, which the USA under the 'Star Wars' program could never make it work. And yes, Israel Arabs are citizens, can vote, have representation in the Knesset, etc... making it the ONLY democracy in the middle east.
I want to be clear that Gore wasn't (insofar as I know) anti-semitic, rather he was anti-everyone.

What is wrong with you? What didn't you understand what Vidal has said in 1988? He's right when he said that Arabs, Palestinians, in the occupied regions can't vote because they're not allowed to vote at all! That still is a fact - even in 2023! And again: Israel is no democracy at al, not by definition.
An apartheid state can NOT be a democracy in the first place. One example: South Africa under the apartheid regime until the mid 1990s. Same situation for Arabs has been taking place for decades now in the occupied regions, for example in the Gaza Strip. And Israel was officially called an apartheid state by the largest, most-influential human rights organization in Israel last year. Democracy?
Democracy, my ass. Just ask the Palestinians in the occupied territory whether THEY think they're living in a democracy. You don't even know what you're talking about.
