    @vinand sori PER SONGFACTS:
    This song is about the threat of nuclear war. On disc 2 of the DVD release of Live After Death, Bruce Dickinson explains: "It's about the romance of war, and how we're all repelled and fascinated by it at the same time."
    >>

    The title is a reference to the Doomsday Clock, which was created in 1947 by the magazine Bulletin Of Atomic Sciences.
    It was set at 7 minutes to midnight, indicating that due to the threat
    of nuclear war, the world was running out of time. As tensions escalated
    over the years, the clock was moved forward, but has been set back
    several times as treaties are signed and the threat decreases. In 1958,
    the United States and Soviet Union were both testing hydrogen bombs, and
    the clock was moved up to 11:58 - the closest it ever got to midnight.

    To be honest, I find it refreshing to hear an American speak about his own country's failings in an articulate and intelligent manner. In most other developed nations people do so openly, as it starts debate, hence you bring more awareness and opportunities to making positive changes to society. It's especially important for the USA due to it's global influence. I get tired of cocky 'yanks' who think their country is the greatest place on earth and just perfect, but then have never been out of their own state, wallowing in their own ignorance and what their Media tells them, living in a bubble!
    Keep up the good work, I love your debates, so different from most reactors.

    This whole album blew me away when I first heard it.. and almost rose to my number one favorite past Dio.. and Dio was the one who got me into Metal in the first place.. so unseating him in my eyes is no easy task. Maiden almost did just that.

    In my senior year back in 1988, we had a class called Nuclear Survival. It was an elective history class where we learned about what happens in a nuclear war and how many weapons each side had at that time. The teacher said the best way to deal with a war was to drive to the epicenter. If you survived, you would die a horrible slow and painful death where if you went quick, you'd avoid all the pain. We might not have been in any wars in the 80's but we thought about war all the time. It shaped a lot of metal music back then. So to say this is more relevant now is not an accurate statement, it was pretty relevant then as well.

    Edit: I wrote out the below before Vin mentioned he was aware of the Doomsday clock.
    2 Minutes to midnight was the time on the theoretical "Doomsday clock" where "Midnight" is the end of the planet via Nuclear war or climate change etc. The closer to midnight the clock is, the closer to the end of humanity we are. Growing up in the 80s at the height of the cold war, Nuclear annihilation was always at the back of your mind as a child, even here in Australia.
    You mentioned the lyrics are relevant today, that would be because we are actually sitting at 11:58 right now according to the sight who publishes it. thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/past-statements/
    It was a scary time in the 80s with the threat of Nuclear annihilation hanging over your head, the AIDS crisis, the discovery of the hole in the ozone layer etc.
