  • Just outside the city of Portland, Oregon, located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, the mighty Columbia River separates Oregon and Washington State for a portion of its 1243 mile traverse from British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean. Over thousands of years the river has carved a deep canyon through an 80 mile stretch of the Cascade Mountain range, known as the Columbia River Gorge, resulting in steep canyon walls and elevations that range from sea level to 4000 vertical feet across various diverse climates, creating hundreds of waterfalls throughout the Gorge. Lewis and Clark scouted this area in the early 1800’s as they explored the western territory of North America. Strong winds, lush forests, and rapidly changing weather make this area stunningly beautiful and unpredictable.
    This unique location sets the stage for the 2017 Gorge Waterfalls 100k race, directed by Rainshadow Racing. With bragging rights and tickets to the Western States 100 on the line, a strong field of ultra athletes will vie for victory as this years event promises to be a great showdown. Leading the credentials of this year’s field is Jim Walmsley, the 2016 ultrarunner of the year, seeking to return to the Western States 100 to avenge his 2016 experience where he lead the race on a course record pace for over 90 miles before a wrong turn ended his chance at victory. Walmsley, who is from Flagstaff AZ, is just a few weeks out from breaking the fastest known time for the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim in the grand canyon. Today we will learn if Walmsley, one of the infamous Coconino Cowboys, has what it takes to win this event and return to Western States in 2017 to avenge last year’s devastating experience. So sit down, buckle up, and let's see what unfolds in the 2017 Gorge Waterfalls 100k.

    Amazing to see Jim just blow through aid stations! Thanks for documenting, see other comments about Jamil. Also suggest a tighter edit in places.

      and at the end he looks like he could run 40 more.

  • @Strongislandcards
    @Strongislandcards Před 7 lety +1

    cool video..does he run all of the 100k or does he have points where he has to walk??

    • @swoz_
      @swoz_ Před 4 lety

      Most ultra runners will walk/hike sections to preserve their legs, when running would otherwise waste energy/stamina. Elite Ultra runners will run every portion that's runnable, if that makes sense.

    Cheap and easy way to get more stable footage is to use a telescoping monopod (selfie stick)

    • @mojoticket
      @mojoticket  Před 7 lety +4

      Thanks for the feedback - we did use a stick that was a stabilized, balanced stick, but still too shaky - hope to correct in future videos but thanks for the feedback!

    • @mojoticket
      @mojoticket  Před 7 lety +9

      Thanks for your feedback - We used a stabilizing stick with a gimbal but with the speed of Walmsley it was still too shaky - hoping in the future to add a gimbal at the camera like an Osmo camera - but the feedback is appreciated and hope to correct that in future videos.

      Mojo Ticket Productions Just ask Jamil Coury for suggestions or take a look at the rig he used for filming Walmsley during his rim2rim2rim FKT.

      Cut the guy some slack. He's out there documenting races so that we can watch them for free. A bit of camera shake is a small price to pay for the insight.

    LOL he wasn't qualified before this? Just ridiculous if he blasted trough 92 miles under course record pace and took a wrong turn, that doesn't earn him an automatic spot?

      World? In the US, yes. In the world, nah. Kilian Jornet? Pau Capell? Ryan Sandes? Francois D'Haene? I'm guessing you're from the US and when you say world, you mean the US and are just forgetting about the rest of the world. A bit like the baseball World Series.

      At least he went out and got footage. Any other people trail Jim during this race with stable footage? If so please direct me there. Did you? You're here watching it free. If it's annoying then watch some other video for free where somebody else is doing that work also. Care to contribute anything or just bitch?

      I just watched your vegan banana ice cream video, well about 5 seconds of it. And you have the nerve to comment negatively on this guy's video? You were in a controlled environment and still couldn't get it right. It blurry and your audio is embarrassing. Don't throw stones from a glass house.
      In all honesty, keep doing your videos if it makes you happy and people enjoy them, but don't shit on other people's work when yours leaves little to be desired.
