- The full "unedited" raw footage of Jim Walmsley at the North Rim of his historic Rim to Rim to Rim record setting run on October 4, 2016. He is the only person to ever run the Grand Canyon double crossing in under six hours, finishing in 5:55:20.
Filmed and edited by Jamil Coury - Sport
I came because of Walmsley and stayed due to the camera man. Holy sheeeet brother.....gj!!!
This rig though...stable...this in frame chase is unreal.
The level at which Jim runs is almost hypnotizing to watch.
the real athlete is the camera man
Poetry in motion! Thanks Jamil for not only keeping up with Jim but also to wield the camera the way you did to capture all this stunning footage. Take a bow!
One of the best running videos on CZcams! Thanks Jamil.
Thank you.
Keeping him framed up through all those tight turns was impressive (even with a wide lens)!
Thanks
That steepness looks familiar. and he is running it uphill, at an incredible pace. Wow, just bloody WOW.
Revisiting this -it's the perfect thing to watch while stuck on the treadmill because Northern California is on fire. Thanks for this.
This is so therapeutic to watch. Great vid.
The unedited version really captures it.
Jim makes it look easy...Jamil makes it look easy to film Jim making it look easy. This is high level running and high level filming at the same time.
I must have watched this 3 or 4 times, such beautiful scenery at a wonderful time of year
Just seeing this for the first time, Jamil. That was truly special.
Jamal Jamal Jamal Jamal!!!!! what can I say...Incredible camera work!! memorizing!! thankyou. love to see Jim in action wow!
I found this video out a week ago, and i've literally had it on repeat since. While i'm working, this is the background noise. It's literally perfect. No fuss, no interview, no huge editing and CGI, just continuous, raw footage of one of the best out there. Amazing!
Awesome.
That was simply amazing! The views....wow. Camera man is legit.
Pretty epic camera system you devised. You were spot on every second. I think everyone watching felt like we were running with Jim. Thank you.
Heart and grit...with a touch of tenacity. Awe inspiring to watch
Also, Jamil long time first time. My man. Keep pushing
Jamil, Jim's achievement is impressive, but it is personal and ephemeral. What you have created here is athletically impressive, in keeping pace with the fastest person ever to run the Grand Canyon, but it is also artistically impressive. As a work of art, rather than being only personal to Jim and you, and rather than being only ephemeral, available to experience just in the moment of its making, in this short film you have created and shared something that is potentially accessible to all and enduring through time. I'm not denigrating athletic achievement in making this comparison. As a life-long athlete, I deeply appreciate this fundamental aspect of what you have presented here. I celebrate the embodied excellence! But I can only do that, in this instance, because of your work of art. Art is the symbolic communication of individual human experience, making the embodied and particular moment universal and available to all. Thank you for doing this, Jamil!
This is by far the Best running video of a Great Legend. Thanks for that chase...and what you do. Keep it up and Keep chasing Jim for us.
In 2002, at age 50 I backpacked from the South to the North and back. I was a fit 3:12 marathoner. I stayed one tent-camp night at the ranch then up the 15 miles to the north rim (brutal as this was around August 8). I rested and enjoyed the north rim for 3 days to recover and then ditched some of my weight (the tent, etc.) as I got a room at the ranch lodge near the river. I was still carrying almost 30 pounds (which was 20% of my body weight) I stayed the night and the hiked up to the South Rim lodges the next morning. I took one day to recover and went back home.
The notion that someone could run R2R2R and not fall to serious injury or death is beyond me. But seeing is believing. Right after the video stops, where there is the bridge in the near distance, at some point one has to traverse a section that is literally cut into the (is it?) granite (rock wall). Imagine a tunnel drilled through the rock that is I guess 200+ yards long - about 4-5 feet wide and maybe 7' high or less. It is almost straight. HOWEVER, it isn't a complete tunnel as the entire "left" side (east=facing) is open to the chasm. I heard it is a 400 foot drop - almost exactly vertical and absolutely no possibility of surviving. So one is running along a 4'-5' wide "trail" cut into the rock. There are a very few sporadic small bushes just to make it interesting and they are sometimes close to the wall side - moving you to the cliff. There are also those angled logs ON the trail that divert rainwater over the cliff - to minimize erosion over time. Just walking over those is scary. I cannot imagine even slow jogging that section.
It is so scary that a man, a dentist who was with his teenager kids (2) warned me at Phantom Ranch as I was heading north that i was at risk of falling there with my back-pack extending above my head a bit. So he purposefully got behind me and grabbed a strap hoping to pull me back from the bring if I happened to trip or the top of my backpack scratched the wall or the "ceiling'.
This is truly an amazing feat.
Kudos to Mr. Walmsley.
Awesome video, thanks Jamil!
Thank you for sharing this Jamil!
Stunning footage! Thanks for taking us along!
That is some impressive camera work. Cool to see such a continuous shot of Walmsley and the amazing scenery!

Super inspiring! Amazing run! Great video, thanks for sharing!
I've been going through your videos and though I'm not remotely as good as you, your videos are a huge inspiration for me to push on. Thanks!
That's what I'd call working for your art. Very cool to see! Thanks Jim and Jamil! These Jim Jam sessions just make me smile! This epic moment, the Walmsley Cal Street sighting, the Mountain Outpost Walmsley Strava record breaking........Too much cool for just one you tube video to handle.
Amazing filming while chasing a flying Jim, wow!! Thanks for capturing this moment for the rest of us!
Fantastic... I did this last year and it brought back great memories... thanks for taking the time to film this....it couldn't have been easy.
Wow, amazing video. Fantastic run in a wonderful landscape. And what an impressive camera work!
Fantastic film Jamil, you’re an amazing runner yourself!
Feel like I need to manually upload this run to my Strava, real feels Jam Jam!
Such a beautiful place to run. Great camera work
Amazing camera work. It's like a drone following him!
Think a drone is the only thing that can keep up with him
+Run Steep Get High - Jamil - you are amazing! Not only were you keeping up with Walmsley's gnarly technical descent, you were filming! Incredible! Thanks for sharing this amazing footage ; I loved every second of it!!!
Epic! Love your videos dude.
The scenery is beautiful!
My quads hurt just from looking at this ...
Simply amazing! You guys are so lucky to be able to run in such a beautiful place that I can only dream about being able to do someday 🙏
Wow, just wow. Amazing to watch. Bravo
great footage man and very impressive. It makes me want to go do some training down there
"I might stop, I'm tired. Nvm its only 2hr and 46 mins away."
Such a great vid! I tried running along on my treadmill and almost ate it like 20 times! Tough to stay straight when there are so many twists and turns in the trail.
Insane footage! Mad camera skills! Great music selection! Awesome running - both of you!
This guy's pace impressive but your filming is just as impressive! Well done!
Sunday, 1/23/22 It’s my first time watching this video. And, can I repeat what others have said about the recording. This cameraman kicked ass! At first I thought there was a professional mountain bike cyclist recording! To be able to keep up with Jim and capture those angles and scenery is epic! Great job guys!
Thank you!
Beautiful trail, stunning video - thnx for sharing!
+Andreas Wiik Thanks for watching
Beau travail...Belle course de Jim, prise de vues incroyables et décors superbes le tout avec une musique bien choisie . Magnifique
Ok I was wrong, Jamil this is the best thing ever. Amazing job following the Walmmer!!! This will be my go to video for motivation to run for quite a while. Edit update, 10/07/16 I've now watched this video 4 times, amazing.
Amazing i wish I could run like jim and have the skills of the cameraman excellent work well done both of you
awesome video. can't wait to do the same thing (R2R2R) on oct 15th. extremely excited for that date.
This never gets old...
I ran the Grand Canyon years ago, and it was a peak running experience. Looking at the scenery now, I'm stunned at the beauty. Thanks for reminding me of the wonder of the Grand Canyon. A tip for those planning to do the run: Leave at early dawn so that you meet the mule teams going down as you go up. You don't want to be caught by them going your way since you can't pass them.
watching this has taken me on a spiritual journey, I keep wondering if you'd ever take a moment to sink it this mesmerizing beautiful nature trail but also amazed at how much you perserve and push yourself, it's spectacular to watch and very motivating to actually trail here one day, thank for this edit and for the video overall, hope you achieve your dreams!!
How hilarious would it be if Walmsley just stopped And then the cameraman stops and then he’s like dude! I forgot my wallet? smirks says just kidding and starts running again
Just let Jim and the scenery do the talking. Gorgeous!
Thanks for that afford Jamil!Great vid!
Camera skills: TOP!
Jamil.. This is the #Sickest video Ive ever watched. Thanks. #SoSick... I just zone out on it & get into a flow state watching. #MimicThatRunningLong..... Good job Bro... Great run...
Wow , Truly Inspiring .
I agree with all the others. The camerawork is amazing and mesmerizing.
Great video
Reminiscent of Joel Wolpert's short film "depressions" where he follows Rob Krar for a 30 mile run in the canyon. I'm sure you know Joel personally his films are inspirational. But yours are getting better and better every time I watch them. You can really tell your becoming more accustomed to running with the camera. Can't wait for more content...BTW the new one you did on the Barkley is great also
super terrain d'entraînement magnifique
Jamil.. Youuuuuuu are the fuckin man!!! Thanks for putting this out there.
might see you at an ultra sometime.
What's more impressive than watching Jim bomb down...its knowing a camera man had to try and stay with Jim and film him....if I could keep up you would hear nothing but me huffing and puffing the entire way...
wow amazing
Good job 👍
I believe I saw Jim training on 4/5/2022, running up South Kaibab as I was running down. I tried to find any posts on FaceBook, InstaGram or Twitter to confirm it was him, but he's been pretty quiet since January 2022. I have video of him running by me, I had my GoPro attached to my chest as I was going (walking!) down.
Jim's heart is so strong if he ever had a heart attack he wouldn't even know it. God forbid. But truly.
Amazing video, Jamil. You are a master. Thank you for sharing your craft. How can we support you?
I wanna know exactly what rig Jamil was running with so I can replicate dat stability.
I dig the music Jamil! Do you have a list of the songs you used?
Watching this was like meditation. I wish it had gone longer! Haha...
grande!
I'm trying my first ultra soon. Will it work to hammer descents over 40miles? I'm planning to pace uphills and hammer down the descents but I'd imagine it would take its toll.
“If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds of distance run
Yours is the earth and all that’s in it
And -which is more- you’ll be a man my son” R Kipling
The world belongs to this guy 😀🏃♂️🏃♂️
A top job capturing such a beastly run. I presume you used your Osmo and Rode mic? Did you also run with a screen or just 'eye ball' the framing? I'm keen to get one and if it stands up to runs like this then it much be reasonable!
+Ben Harris exactly right! I just eye balled it. Lots of hours of running with the osmo over the past 6 months!
Run Steep Get High thanks for your answer. There seems to be a rattle in the audio. Is that the camera or something else. I love hearing the crunch under foot.
Some of the screws were loose with my extension rod. Need to make sure everything is tighter for the next one. Working on it...
this guy is a STUD ! Thank god no wrong turns like Western... Jim WIL WIN Western this year!
Jim makes it look easy... Were you able to talk to him, or was he focused on running? If I were Jim I would be really have this footage of me running.
+Michael Cooney We really didn't say a word once we started down the trail. We were both pretty focused!
+Run Steep Get High I saw your shadow at one point and it looks like your filming kit is substantial! So chasing Jim at his pace with all the camera kit and maintaining the framing is incredible. Mad skills Jamil!
Thanks Michael, my filming kit has become more substantial lately. Always trying to up the game. Disappointed in some clunking noises with the audio, but already working on fixing that for the next one. Thanks for the support.
You're so right, Jim does make look easy. After I watch these videos I get pumped up and start dreaming about my Elite career starting next week and then my next run brings me back down to reality ;)
Is that audio clunk really only something that shows up on substantial movement as trail running? I could hear it a bit at the trailhead, but don't know if you were bumping your rig.
ว้าว เก่งมากๆ
What was the song at 15:00?
How far of a run was that?
This is mothafuckin cool yo!
camera man great job
Can we have a version without music too? :D I dig these videos though
