Traxxas Chargers charge Traxxas batteries to 3.9 storage 25c that's what people put xmaxx
I literally charge my li po battery by just connect wires with mobile charger and it never got on fire
😂
As a firefighter I highly recommend keeping a CO2 extinguisher located outside your charging area. A standard ABC will work but should a fire occur the CO2 extinguisher wont produce the mess involved with an ABC. Also if you charge in a room. Definitely have that charge box. Been to quite a few fires recently involving battery abuse.
assault on battery?
Right on, I just retired after 23yrs on the job, when I got into the hobby 6yrs ago I was a little cocky about the safety, thinking I've seen battery fires before. Had a cheap ass charger and did almost zero research into charging a lipo pack. Was using a lipo bag, but was renovating basement, and my abc and CO2 extinguishers were not in normal place. My first quad was a pre-built racer from a guy online, was common back then to use balance lead to power vtx. So I was charging 4s 1300mah, no balance lead, wrong setting, and bam it went from thermal run away to working fire in like 20sec. Melted lipo safety bag like it was a plastic gas station bag. Drywall started to ignite 3ft away, no flame impingement, straight radiant heat. Dumped 2 lrg glassed of water on it while gf tried to find extinguishers I moved. finally found the ABC one, which was a nice 10lb-er I thought would be plenty, it barely put it out..lol. I've told that story to many people getting into the hobby, they are no joke.
I meant to say this originally, but went off topic...Was so pissed at myself I went the other way on safety, I built a lipo bunker box with a self extinguishing feature using AFFF. Well, not the real stuff, but it's cheap to make, baking soda with a splash of Potassium Sorbate mixed, and tossed in the bottom of an old mammo box. Then I rigged a system on the peg board above it, using Folgers coffee can with some white vinegar and splash of dish soap in it, tied to fishing string going down into the ammo box. Fire breaks fishing line, dumps can of vinegar n soap on baking soda lined in bottom of box, poof, you got AFFF knock off, foam. I'm working on making a video on how it works, I'll post here when finished.
thank you. I'll look into a c02. I have a batt-safe now that I purchased today. Glad to know a firefighter recommends it
do you feel like people are forgetting what was perhaps more commonly known about electronics? that they get hot and can catch fire.
I always get a Sharpie and write numbers on my batteries. That way I can effectively rotate them so they all get equal use. I can also keep track of a certain battery if it's not performing on par with the rest of them. Thanks for another informative video!
Yes I do the same and figure most people also number and date their batteries when new too. What I found is important is to always use/charge them in order...1,2,3,4,5,6,7, etc. which creates a pattern and makes a weak battery stand out as well as keeping track of their charge states by memory without guessing. I used to keep a log but found doing that provides enough information to maintain and monitor them. I call it a rule now after doing so exposed a bad charger port on a 4 port multi-charger. Thought it was a bad battery at first.
DATE them also
if you had a better charger you would be able to see the IR of them and you wouldn't need to wonder what is going on with the battery. no need to date them etc.
@@blue03r6 My chargers are quite good actually. But I like numbering identical batteries so they all get equal use. Nothing wrong with knowing how old a battery is either.
@@plasticapple704 but are you actually keeping track of how many cycles they have? Knowing their internal resistance is what you need to know. Also knowing which cells are out of balance. If you don't have a charger that shows you the IR and is capable of balance charging to veey close MV it doesn't matter how much you keep track of things or rotate. That's honestly a waste of time as it doesn't do anything. A good charger such as a icharger 308duo you can actually track all of that with their charging software. But seeing the IR is what you need to see. The more use the higher it goes. And cheap batteries like turnigy come with out of matched cells. The pack is only as good as the worst cell.
I just bought my first set of lipo batteries..
This was so helpful, thank you!
Another great lipo battery safety video! Probably the best and informative I've seen to date! Thanks for making these!
The best ever review !
I have a Trial Electric Bike and anyone has told me so full information !!
Thanks a lot!
So glad to hear.
Thanks for getting this info out there. Quite a lot of folk abuse their batteries badly. Hopefully this will help someone.👌👍
great info brother! hopefully you've cut down on newbies burning their houses down!
Our motivation for sure!
Thank you for doing this. It's so important that people understand about Lipo's.
Good video, I once put my lipo on my desk and started smoking but luckily stopped after a couple seconds and was able to dispose it safely
İt is the best video i have ever watched about lipo batteries. Thank you for preparing it for us.
GREAT compiling of valuable information!!! ALL good. 👍👍
The only one I have difficulty with (and it's NOT YOU, it's my situation), I CAN'T afford a bunch of Batteries like seemingly everyone else in the Hobby...
I've got ONE 3S for my FlySky Radios (one between ALL of them), ONE 3S for my Aircraft and a 3S and 2S for my Crawlers.
And those took a long time to acquire! 😖😞
I may be one of the last People to start using Lipos - because I've READ the information and SAW the Videos.
I WAITED until I could save up for a GOOD Lipo/LiFe balance Charger!!! It conditions, inspects, balances, REJECTS charging BAD Batteries...
And will set a Safe, Storage Charge! 👍👍
In a Hobby where I can no longer afford SQUAT, I sure don't want to LOSE what little I have...

The videos of fires REALLY drive your points home. I am relatively new to drones and I did not know ALL of this stuff until now. In the beginning I was leaving my 2s batteries fully charged for months until i learned about leaving them at 50%. Only one swelled, maybe 1-2mm on each side.(it was safely disposed of) Now, I have a very nice battery charger with lots of diagnostics (Which I need to master). This vid showed me I still have a lot to learn.
they're unsafe when charged wrong. They're safe with this knowledge shared.
Thank you for the video.
Thank you! You have become one of my favorite sources of info.
👉💪
Right on. We enjoy sharing for fun and safety.
Thanks for the info this is great. I’m just getting back into RC since I was a kid because my kids wanna do it and this is all new to me. Bought a fire bag before I even took the truck out of the box. Now I need a better charger. Thanks for the info.
thank you for the good information.
(and thanks for not having music in the background, that feels really relaxing to me)
As usual, great advice. I for one din't understand the dangers of LiPo's when i 1st got into our great RC hobby untill i had a 1S rip on me when removing it from a drone, plug came off and wires crossed !! luckily it was a 300Mah but boy did it go off like a firework. Lesson learned. 👍🛩🚗
Yeah, imagine an 8S 5000 mah. A short circuit is insane.
You certainly wouldn't be able to pick that up and put it in a LiPo safe bag !!!!!!
Thank you, although im about a year in the hobby, it’s still good to view this video from time to time just to keep awareness.
I love your videos thank you very much! They are very informative and helpful. Especially since I'm new to the "New RC world" I'm 43yrs old and the last RC I owned was a Traxxas Hawk 2.
So yesterday I purchased the Blue Redcat Gen 8 after numerous videos of reviews/upgrading ect.. ect..
But again thank you for taking the time to explain the very important information we all need to know.
Have a great day and stay safe
Excellent video mate, good sound advice, this video has probably saved hundreds of lipo batteries catching fire & causing immense damage.
Stay Safe 🙏🏻
Exactly what I needed to see. Great video. Thank you
Thank you for all the great content you put out in your videos, it’s been very helpful to me!
This is our goal. Not to scare or to discourage but to inform and share.
ONE OF THE BEST VID FOR NEW LIPO USERS SIR,GREAT JOB!!!!!
Thank you very much. When it comes to lipos knowledge is safety.
Thanks my friend for the great information and safety tips. I wasn't aware of the dangers. But I never charge my batteries unattended and gave great battery appropriate charges.
Before watching this video I was going to parallel connect two 72 volt lithium batteries for longer range. One is 35 ah and the other one is 17.5. Combined 52.5 amp hour. Whit my components I would of gotten 150 kms. Give or take, depending on riding style, top speed, rider weight road grade(incline.decline).wind ,tire pressure, and outside temperature . I am not doing that cause it something. If bad happens, there go both of my batteries and they are very expensive. Thanks for the great advice. You mat have saved me alot of unnessscary problems.
Right on. Maximizing fun and safety through sharing of experiences is our goal.
Thank you for the lesson. Rule 7 and 8 are what I am happy with. I requested a custom high C rating for my mountainboard which has regen braking and high output for uphill climbing.
Also, I have two batteries for the motors, a separate 36v 10amp and 36v 40amp big block to let one work at then let the other rest
Thanks RC Review for the video and the links to the safes!
Thank you for your video. I recently got into rc cars again (after 25 years). So much has changed and I was a bit overwhelmed. This helped
You can do it! We keep getting back in to after a lifetime of rc and this lipo thing was a big change.
Always good info whether you're new at using Lipo batteries or just need a reminder to be safe and take care of your investment.
I have a light on a xt60 that I use to get the last of the charge out after it’s too low to run. I try to fully discharge. #1 reason is my house burnt down because of a battery fire. Thanks for the video, I learned some new stuff.
I purchased the bar safe box from the description box. I just got my first 6S vehicle and I was watching videos on how much more serious of a battery it is compared to a 2,3 and 4s battery and I figured I’d touch on this video again and just purchased the box
Great Video!! I'm just getting into flying FPV and my biggest concern is with these Lipo Batteries. Wow!! Just seems like so many things can go wrong....Excellent video...I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I even try to charge one of these things. Must admit...they make me very nervous. Hope this video gets a ton of views!! Again..nicely done.
Thank you. Given the knowledge... they're very safe. So it was important for us to make this video and inform.
Excellent presentation. I subscribed for obvious reasons. Like not being a fan of burning down my house due to being ignorant of LiPO battery characteristics. Thanks for your presentation and warnings.
Thank you for the informative video, I will definitely keep this in mind.
You spoke about topics no one really spoke to me about on various discord voice chats, this info is very much appreciated.
I'll feel safer at home with what I have learned today.
Excellent stuff, I learned a lot and feel glad I did!
Nice job and very helpful. Thanks
Essential information. Thank you posting for this!!!
Great video!
I store my lipos at 3.8V per cell.
That sound perfect.
That is the magic number 💪
Awesome video!!! Thanks for safety info!!! Very appreciated!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent info and presentation. Thank you!
why thank you. Sharing is learning.
Thanks a lot for your explanation. A must see for beginners !!
Fantastic video! Very informative. Thank you.
Yes, when it comes to lipos, knowledge is safety.
Awesome info!
This newbie says THANK YOU
👍😎
❤
Thank you for this info!
👍👍👍
Nice comprehensive video on Lipo maintenance. Use a Lipo killer to discharge the battery to 0v before disposal. Most Chargers will only discharge to minimum cell voltage. Thanks.
Awesome video. My GEN8 will be my first unit using LiPo batteries.
Thank you for your valuable tips for safely charging batteries.
Yes, knowledge makes lipos safe.
Thank you so much, you answered so much of my questions, due to using Lipo in ecigarettes.
Yes, so many got burned with ecigarettes in our research. And most our mouth injuries.
@@RCReviewChannel I think i will stay by my Sony Konion VTC5A 18650 and LG HG2 18650 and first when someone can guarantee me safe use of lipo batteries in my Ecigarettes i will think about a switch to it
Awesome video, great production! Very informative.
Thanks 🙏
Appreciate it very much. Most of the charging mistakes can be very dangerous.
Thanks for making this video. Really helpful.
Thank you for the info and wisdom!
Been in rc since the early 80s seen the batteries change ,actually raced not just play and seen a many of battery disasters, manly as you say not knowing and stretching the poor battery, and your most definitely right as about chargers ,many times took the ole battery apart moved cells around so they wouldn't mess up ,so many out there no nothing about this ,now we got balance build in the charger ,if they use it
Excellent advice, very useful video.
Super great video!!!!! Thank you! - btw the rims look really good on the rc
appreciate that. Hopefully this helps others have fun and be safe.
Very informative! Thanks!
Really liking this channel, keep it up man
Thank you for the great info.
Very important information,,, awesome stuff brother
THANK YOU!! GREAT INFORMATION!
Thanks for the tips 😃 very informative 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the explanation, it is really useful
Great information,thank you!
Great advice, thanks!
cheers man...just trying to get into RC and your channel is helping. waiting for my first RC...trx-4 sport. finding out about these new Lipos nowadays and not the old nimh/nicd etc. looking at my old Tamya cheap truck from years ago thanks
That is so cool to hear. Yes, everything is funner and safer with knowledge so we are trying to share the insight.
thank you for sharing
Amazing vid😀 gonna start charging my battery in a spare metal trash can to be safe.
You stated not to put all the batteries together but end the video with a shelf full of batteries? Lol, what am I missing? Great video! Thank you.
one of the most helpful videos
Except a lot of the information provided is either incorrect or just outright dishonest and dangerous.
Thank you , very important to know. The more is the power the more is the danger....
Exactly. Just imagine an 8S, 10,000 mah battery. Whoosh.
@@RCReviewChannel my planes use 4S 12Ah, pretty big fat boi ahah
@@RCReviewChannel imagine buying two sets for your xmaxx... That's £900 right there lol and that's why I'm sticking with petrol. Petrol still pretty dangerous itself but atleast it's not a ticking time bomb 😂 this video is scary. Could easily make a pretty effective improvised explosive device with a bunch of these things
Nice one! Some kind of scary
😰
Thanks for this! learned allot!
That's music to our ears.
Thank you Sir 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing!
Knowledge is safety!
Great video thanks...👍👍
Great video, thanks
Thanks for the tips
You bet
thank you for you information very informative and useful thanks again
Thanks man!
Amazing advice
Shared on my club page for racers unsure about lipos. Thanks
Appreciate it. They are safe as long as we know how to safely charge.
Thanks. Good info!
thank you very much for this information and this video
For sure. Spread the word about our channel.
Well delivered tutorial
Very valuable info. Thank you very much. Regards from Mexico.
Glad it was helpful! Knowledge is safety when it comes to lipos.
8:47 "Spreading the load"
Gotcha.
Very good videos! Thanks. Carl in Sweden.
Salamat po sa info!
Thank you for this information
My pleasure
Much appreciated!!!
Thx. Well done.
Nice job as usual!
Gracie!
Thanks, that was very helpful. I have just started to use LiPo batteries and this tutorial has helped a lot. Can you recommend a charger as mine are older and I would like an up to date one?
Thank you
Thanks for the tip
Great information! I use LiPo batteries in my r/c planes and never realized that they should not be stored at max charge. I learn something new on CZcams!!
Thank you for this good safety information. Dec6, 2021 RPB
🤔🤔🤔 i need box too charge So true , i get your humor, only having one battery , kids beat hell out of it . If they only knew how much better easier it is to be into rc this day and age
Hi, thank you for the video. You explain things in a way a noob like me can easily understand. I really appreciate that. One additional question: If a fire occurs, what is the best way to try and put it out? Is there a specific type of fire extinguisher to keep on hand? I believe that for grease fires in the kitchen you should never use water as it will only cause the fire to spread, that one should instead attempt to smother the flames using a large thick towel, and or cover the area with baking soda. Thanks again!
They're batteries...it'll ironically result in a _C͟h͟e͟m͟i͟c͟a͟l͟ f͟i͟r͟e͟._ So you would use a Sodium bicarbonate extinguisher; aka class A B; AKAA just a normal extinguisher nothing crazy like buying something expensive & going on CZcams for the manual that explains all this already.
