    I received one of these yesterday. I ordered it after watching this overview. I looked through my 'wire box' which is in a storage facility, couldn't find one with high enough voltage and all that. Then today I went into my boot for some things I had left in there and noticed an old Energizer rechargeable setup I've been meaning to bin. The power adapter for that? Perfect. 16V, 4A out. Amazing luck. :)

    Hi Tigger's RC Reviews.
    At 5:00 you speak about the charger being rated at "5A MAX" for current, and you point out you are using a "4A MAX" power supply.
    That would actually be an error, as the supply has to AT LEAST be able to supply the Maximum the charger could draw, otherwise you may experience voltage drop on the supply causing undue stress on the chargers voltage regulation circuits.
    IMO It's really important people at least gain a basic understanding of the differences between Voltage and Current ratings on devices before they start playing around with Batteries that can Explode!!!
    I am new to RC hobby, but I have been doing Electronics since I was about 9yo, I am 39yo now, thanks so much for your informative video, but please make sure you're explaining things correctly, I certainly will be checking out some other videos too, to make sure I have the right info before I go buying things.
    Cheers.

    Having to connect the Deans as well as the JST indicates that individual cells are taking the combined current of all cells in 'balanced charging' mode. This will shorten their cycle life.
    Perhaps the 'balanced wires' are connected to a simple 'top balancer' module that discharges a fully-charged cell (keeping it below threshold) while waiting for the others to catch up from the high-current charge on the Deans until the target serial voltage is achieved.
    A true balanced charger would have 4-wire connections to each individual cell. Charge and voltage detection.

    • @petejones4808
      @petejones4808 Před 5 lety

      The balance charge lead does have 4 wires for a 3s battery and the deans connector is actually what enables the charger to connect a bleed resistor circuit to each cell as required. Hence, it is a true balance charger. As each cell reaches nominal voltage it can be kept there while other cells are finishing their charge.

    I was unable to fly. I balanced my batteries and drained them with the storage feature. A few years passed. they wouldn't charge at the normal amp rate. It wouldn't start. I used a lower rate and it started. They came back, in perfect balance too. This is a good video. I don't have a bag but use a ceramic pot on a cement floor. I once saw a lipo set a car on fire. Went through the seat to the ground.

    You omitted a couple of key points
    1. While charging and storage charging you can note the balance charging voltages for each cell this gives an indication of each cell life.
    2. When charging several cells at the same time(parallel charging) you MUST ensure all the battery packs are of a similar voltage at the start

  • @QckSGaming
    @QckSGaming Před 7 lety +15

    Just a note while watching this great video: Input (12v DC) is not "MAX 5A". It draws more current as it needs it and if you read it from the manual and it said something along the lines of "Max 5A drawn from mains socket" it means exactly that. Max amperage draw from your input source is 5 amps. :)
    This of course means that you can use basically any power supply that is 12V and 5A minimum to charge everything at all amps. If you would charge at max power the charger can output and you had a 4A power supply. The power supply would cut out at 4 amps and the charger would turn off along with the power supply.

    • @TheAarowsmith
      @TheAarowsmith Před 7 lety +2

      QckSGaming , you are not correct, the Imax B6 charger shown here in this video only charges at 5amps max or 50 watts. That is the maximum battery charge limit you can do with this charger. It will not draw more than 5 amps period. Hence why the lower cost. 5 amps is the limit of charging power for this model of charger, please read the manual.
      Other more expensive chargers can charge your batteries at higher amps or higher wattage.
      If this is what you need 5 amps maximum charge rate, then no reason to buy a higher priced charger.

    • @IIPhotography
      @IIPhotography Před 6 lety +2

      I think you are, not wrong TheAarowsmith, but misunderstanding the previous reply. QckSGaming is simply saying that.. The INPUT ampere rating is 5 MINIMUM (not MAX), if you want to achieve the total charge rate capability of this unit and that any external power supply that can deliver 5 amp or more will be needed and be suitable (subject to connector polarity requirement).

    • @IIPhotography
      @IIPhotography Před 6 lety

      Forgot to say.. 5A based on a 12v supply, 4A is suitable using a 15v supply

    Amazing video ! Bought my first RC Car, with 6500 mah Lipo 2S 50C, and fast charger. So your video was great knowledge for me. 3 things want to ask. 1) I already charged twice my battery on balance mode, but never heard BEEP or "FULL' on screen.. Voltage read 4.20 for both cells for few minutes and so I thought I better unplug everything or else I might over charge. Should I wait more, or whats wrong here ? 2) Can I charge it at 6A since I have 6500 mah battery ? Or even 5A ? Both time, I did at 3A only as precaution. 3) With fear of going below 3V low, I want to install buzzer or beeper in my RC Car so that I can stop playing with it on time. How to go about it ? Any video showing how to do this ? Thanks again

It also has the DC input port that yours has. I think the built in power is the way to go and its just a few dollars or pounds more but worth it.

I've heard, that the ones with higher voltages (the one that will be drained) start blinking. With my imax b6 (40 euros, amazon prime) that does not happen....all the cells just seem to change voltages randomly up or down every few seconds. starting values for my s5 balancing were 4.05 3.93 3.90 4.20 and 4.01. after 120 minutes it ended saying 463mah have been transfered and the new voltages are 3.95 3.93 3.87 4.21 and 3.93. what could be the explaination?

    This has been my frustration with having so many drones. Storing all the 3.7v (single cell) batteries. I only have a couple of 2 cell. Never sure when I would be flying each drone again? They can sit for a long time. If I did not "storage" charge them - OK if they were left as NOT fully charged? Again, most of mine are the small 3.7v JST plug type single cell ( 150 mah - 600 mah)

    Great video, I have some LiPo batteries for my Yuneec Q500 drone, they are 3s /11.1 volts. I left them charged for several months, didn't know I should have put them in storage mode. what should I do NOW? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

      I would just run them(fly them) and see what happens you usually lose flight length, I've done it with some of my Typhoon H ones, not the end of the world, happy Yuneec flying :-)

    Hi Tigger, when using the multi cable for charging the single cells (all150mAh cells); do the cells have to be at the same state of charge before charging or very close to each other?
    Is it possible to over charge any of the cells. If I’m charging 4 x 150 mAh cells I would set the charging current to 0.6A ?

    • @TiggersRCReviewsTTFN
      @TiggersRCReviewsTTFN  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes they should all be around the same level of charge. You can only over charge a cell if they are at very different levels of charge. Hope that sorts it for you. Always be careful with charging any lipo, search YT for Lipo catch fire for the scary stuff. Cheers

    Great video man. Just one question. When you want to store your battery, you suggested to just go and fly the drone to lower battery. What happens if you fly it for to long and therefore you need to charge it again for storage. Do you still use the “Lipo storage setting”?

    • @MichaelGThomas

      Yes. It will increase or drain the cells as required.

  • @DelQuad4X

    Great info Tigger.
    I use the same charger for all of my LiPo batteries.
    The one thing you've taught me in this presentation is the storage. I knew about it, but was NOT aware of when to put them into storage mode.
    When I get home they will all be placed into storage now!
    They were fully charged about 6 days ago.
    I use an old military ammo can as my "safe" box for charging. When I go out I have a small plastic "pencil" box with shipping foam to hold my batteries. But the ammo can still comes with me if I'm out for more than one flight. Especially since my flights are done in my back yard. :)
    I made my own 1-5 adapter for my 1S's. Question: would you recommend to store 5 at a time with the adapter? Or do them individually?
    Thanks again for some great info!

      +Del Quad4X Took me awhile to understand the storage thing but I haven't had a cell go down since I started looking after them properly. Like the ammo box idea. It would get passers by a little worried that you are flying a drone LOL I can see you in combat gear next...OK I have finished now.

      I'm assuming you mean rechargeable ones because recharging standard aa or aaa can go bad. I would get a separate nitecore or similar charger that's built with cradles to hold the battery and proper safety and voltage checks for those cells. You can get 4-8 bay nitecore chargers for $15-45 and they are great quality. imrbatteries.com has a great selection as well as battery cells too.

    Hi Tigger, no-one seems to have a video on how to wire the outputs of the iMAX B6 V2, to charge a Hubsan Drone's LiPo 4200mAh 11.4v 47.9Wh battery, since it has 3 cells and 4 wires. The IMAXacB6 has 3, 4, 5, & 6 outputs; but the iMAX B6v2 only has a 6 pin conductor plug, plus the (-), (as well as the + and - output). I can't seem to find any videos or manual diagrams on what the balanced outputs would wire to, on the Hubsans' red, white, white, black wired cable. Any Idea how I should wire it?
