Laura Branigan, the best female vocalist (in my opinion)
My all time favorite. I’d read in another post of this song, that Laura put such much into singing this in the studio, that she passed out during the recording of it. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I sure could understand how. What a fantastic voice she had! If there was ever one place I’d like to have been, is in an audience or recording studio with the beautiful vocalist! I’ve yet to ever hear one voice even come close to her unique style. Also, on top of that, I’ve never heard one negative remark to her as a person. Laura Branigan’s music, especially this song, will always hold a special place in mg heart.
Suggestion: her song, “With Every Beat Of My Heart”, is a beauty too! :-)

I am familiar with "Power of Love" as a Celine Dion song. I had to google it cause i was curious. It was first released int 1984 by Jennifer Rush, this version is 1987, and Celine's version was 1993. Love this song and her voice sounds great.

Everyone in our modern times seems to only know Celine's version (I guess the younger crowd of course would only know that one) but I think this is the best version (apart from the original). Love the way Laura's voice breaks, and the rasp and almost 'rock' edge to it that Celine's does not have. Nothing personal against Celine, she's amazing, too. But Laura tops all for me. RIP.

Oh, my goodness, Barry Manilow was so popular when I was young. When I was in junior high, his songs were always played at the skating rink. I had a lot of his albums. One of his most famous songs waa "I Wrote the Songs," which was huge. He had a lot of hits. His voice was phenomenal and his piano playing was outstanding. This song was enormously popular. He's a great story-telling singer.

When a woman lifts up her man, it creates in the average male an intense desire to do all HE can for HER. It naturally flips the original lines of the song.
But a man who feels beat down, constantly belittled, or ignored will become more distant and defensive. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.

Laura Branigan had the "belt it out there" type voice, sadly the "belt-y" songs weren't very popular back then. I was a fanatic about her, and had all the cassettes, then discs. She adds a raspiness to this, so it sounds like it has more feeling. The original artist/writer is Jennifer Rush, and the more popular remake from the early 90s was Celine Dion, who has the powerful voice but not with the feeling (and to me has a country twang at the end).

Fun (kinda) song by Manilow. 1st song I remember by him that I loved as a mid teen was "Mandy" .. then a few yrs later "Looks Like We Made It" became a fav of mine. The later released ('77) not long after I married my highschool sweetheart when we were truly just kids, hence looks like we made it😉
Now as for "The Power Of Love" .. this has been covered by many "power" voices but the original artist is Jennifer Rush who wrote & sang this beautiful song. I may get some haters .. but I have to say my fav of all singing this particular song is Celine Dion. To b fair .. I just reviewed several of those power voices singing this & I still really luv Celine best .. but that's just MY opinion. The clarity of Celine's voice, her range & the personal ending is what I favor. Admittedly it is a tough choice .. they're all awesome in their own ways. If any of them were played .. I'd listen to each one of them.🥰
Ty, Barbara & Nikki .. thnx so much for requesting & playing these 2. Top notch tracks of their time. Ty I think the change up was great .. u should do that more often & keep listeners on their toes .. LOL.

I think the reason why it sounds familiar to you cause it was a cover that she did. The original was like back in 1985 I think but I prefer this version as it has more vocal range if you know what I mean, whereas the original is more of a slow but less like this one 😌 Laura branigan can literally do a 14 second long note In one of her songs such as Solitaire. What’s sad that most record labels rejected her cause she didn’t sound like any other artists at the time.

Some of the greatest love songs ever, came from the pen and piano, of Barry Manilow. (You've probably heard a few) One of my favorite Manilow songs is *"Even Now"* followed closely by *"I Write The Songs"* I've never understood the hate he's garnered from some segments of the population, just because of his song styles and tendency to write popular hits(much like Nickleback haters)
I have always loved Laura's voice. The power and clarity.Much like Pat Benatar, I put her up there almost with Karen Carpenter

The first time I heard Power of Love was in 1985, when it was a minor hit in the US for Air Supply (but a bigger hit outside the US). The following year, one of the co-writers of the song, Jennifer Rush, released her own version and it was a huge hit for her throughout Europe. Then in 1987, Laura (who seemed to specialize in doing covers of songs that were hits in Europe) released what I have always considered the "correct" version of the song - performed with thundering, devastating vocal power rather than the comparatively soft and delicate versions we hear from Air Supply, Jennifer Rush and Celine Dion.

The other singer you are thinking of is Celene Dion.

Both Laura Branigan and Celine Dion did fine cover versions of this song, but I still prefer Jennifer Rush's original version.

Love Barry Manilow. I keep thinking about "Ready to take a chance again" and the movie Foul Play. I like Laura Branigans version better than Celine Dions version but nothing beats the original version by Jennifer Rush.

Celine Dion sang this song also. But Laura did it better

For such a “upbeat” song, it’s really quite sad. Never wrong with Barry Manilow.

Barry has a very nice voice, but he's had to put up with "cheezy" comments all his career.

Well, we had to put up with his cheesy music, so it's a fair trade.

I wish everyone the does video reactions did them like you! LISTEN to the song and then give your reaction. I hate when people talk through songs. BTW, Barry Manilow is an amazing songwriter and singer/pianist. Check out "I Write the Songs" and "Mandy"

Can you listen to Loreena McKennitt, song The Old Ways (live) Nights of the Alhambra. She is a wonderful artist.

There's only two versions of The Power Of Love worth listening to, one is by Laura & the other by the co-writer Jennifer Rush both brilliant & different in there own way
