I just did this. This is a great guide, but I'd like to add a few tips. I would add that at least for a 2010 V6, you do NOT need to remove the exhaust. We removed the O2 sensors only, and had no clearance issues. Driveshaft bolts (12mm, 12 point) are typically installed with locktite red, which must be heated to release. Butane torches are warranted for driveshaft bolts. Once heated, they release easily. I also did not disconnect the starter wiring. It can be tucked up into the suspension until you're ready to reinstall. The hydraulic clip can be tricky. Pic tools are the best way to go. It removes toward the driver's door. Put your finger on it and press against the pick, or it will likely go flying across the garage once it releases (ask me how I know). We had a hard time getting the new hydraulic line to come out far enough to recoup the hydraulic line on. Ended up grabbing it with pliers and pulling it through farther (careful with the O ring). That proved effective. Be very careful with the shifter bolts. They are cheap pot metal and shear easily. Always use penetrating oil first. That linkage is no longer made and is expensive if you can find it on Ebay. Note nearly every bolt is metric EXCEPT the flywheel bolts. They are 3/8". If you try to use a 10mm, you'll likely strip it (one of the few mistakes I didn't make).

19 year old female with no mechanical experience here ✋ This video helped guide me while replacing my clutch. It made it so easy and clear thanks so much!
Nice work! Thanks for watching!
I followed this video as a guide when I replaced my clutch/flywheel/TOB/clutch line/pilot bearing on my 2008 GT. Amazing directions, saved me a lot of time.
how long did it take you?

Was very worried at the thought of having to do this on a 2009 Suzuki GV diesel to replace the leaking rear seal but this has been like a friendly uncle who guides you through it step by step ... I am eternally grateful!
This video is an absolute masterpiece! Thank you thank you thank you for this upload!!!
You sir just made my life soo much easier. Thank you!! Also little tip, I recognize you were probably being generic on purpose since not everybody has this car. However since you titled it as a clutch replacement for all 05-09 Mustang GT’s specifically, I wish the torque specs and nut/bolt/socket sizes would’ve been mentioned as you went along. Thanks🤗
I must say this is by far one of the best DIY videos I have ever seen. This videos saved me so much $$$$. A huge thank you from me and my 2008 Mustang GT. Please don’t stop making videos
Awesome! Thanks for watching Robert!
I'm installing my 2015. Ford Mustang GT clutch. I just want to say that this is by far one of the best. Step-by-step, install that anyone is going to find. Excellent video
Great how-to. Glad I stumbled across this video while trying to find the 'rear main seal replacement' process for my 2006 Expedition 5.4. I only stopped on this 'Mustang' video because the end of this engine is EXACTLY the same as my '06 Expedition 5.4. You could add "2006 Ford Expedition 5.4" to your video so it will show when someone searches for this for their Expedition. Thank you.
Good to know! Thanks for the heads up!
Great video! You were informative and easy to follow. Big thanks.
Used this to replace my clutch and flywheel over the Covid shutdown. Thanks for the video!
Very cool! That is so cool to hear! Thanks for watching Dave!
Very informative video, thanks for taking the time to explain all so clearly. It's no wonder this job cost a small fortune these days.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. I would not have been able to do this repair without it. Just back from test driving my Mustang (2005 v6) and car works great again. Sections of the video were different (ex. starter on drivers side held in with 2 bolts). I used four 3-ton jack stands. I did not have to remove any part of the exhaust (except 02 sensors). It did make getting the upper two bolts on the transmission a little bit more difficult. I needed a friend to get the transmission on the transmission jack because we had to put it on the jack under the car.
dang dude, I'm about to do this on my 2010 GT the same way as you. gonna have to crawl around while the car is on jackstands. wish me luck plz
Great video! Very informative and awesome step by step process ! I'm really looking forward to more of your stuff. Thanks alot for your time in making this video .

Thank you for being so thorough, not many people are and you were very helpful.i have done plenty of rangers but not a mustang like this one.never know. If things have change a little ,one thing I I have found out u r never to old to learn. Thank you so much for the video. I have enjoyed the video and will look u up next time. Thank again.
Thanks for the great video guys, no more throw out bearing noise!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
The background music is so catchy. Everytime I do automotive chores I it pops in my head.
Good overall video too
Thank you so much for watching!
@@2carpros would you please tell the name of the band of back track?
I’m doing my clutch right now and you just saved me a couple hours more worth of work. I’ve always thought the transmission should be flush with the engine before installing the transmission bolts. But I guess the 3v has a gap due to the throw out bearing being a hydronic one
Very nice video, thank you for the upload. Just replaced the clutch assembly on 2010 GT, The two top bolts on bell housing were quite a challenge. We didn't remove the entire exhaust as themiddleclamps were quite seized, but had unhook both of the Cat.Converters and pushed the aside, as well as the 02 Sensors. The clutch was not slipping at all, only the shiffting got really hard, but ours surprise the old clutch it was ripped apart and split intn two pieaces
Cheers
Very helpful and well done. I am having my GT 500 done now. I like to know how much work is required but I already knew I couldn't have done it myself. My 05 GT has a new clutch and my 14 GT has very low miles.
Your video made everything go so smoothly thank you so much!
Thank you so much for watching!
OUTSTANDING video!! 😁👍🏼 It is extremely helpful. Thank you very much for posting!
Very cool! Thanks for watching Michelle!
Well done! Old style manual transmissions are underrated, they were so much more durable than the new trend to CVT transmissions.
Thanks for watching! Yeah I am much more partial to anything but a CVT.
Great job you've done here with this video! Some may nit-pick minor details here or there, but I'd say you're right on for a generalized late model mustang clutch job. thumbs up & yes, I am subscribed to your channel & find it very informative.
Thank you for watching!
You Sir have earned an appropriate thumbs up from me. Thanks guys. Good video.
Thanks for watching!
You guys make dropping the transmission out so easy. It was a pain in the ass on my car, of course I'm also not working on a lift.
A lift really makes it a lot easier, I'll be honest. But it is super cool you did it without a lift! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video, thanks. Now I understand the pain.
You Gentlemen made an Excellent video,,,,I'm grateful and impressed!
Thank you so much for watching!
Nice job, just one question doesn't it get any air in the throw out bearing? Do we need to bleed the air, and ho we do it?
At 21,22 when you installed the "retainer shield" around the seal is that a separate piece? Or are you just tapping around the rear main seal itself?
Seems like a lot of work. I'm usually a diy guy but I'm so glad I pay people to do this kind of thing. Maybe I'm the only one but I find mechanics to be very reasonable in costs for what they do. To each his own though. Some guys love this kind of challenge.
+WC Thank you for your great insight. Some jobs are not as easy as some people think.
@@2carpros I done one on a 2007 shelby gt with lift and tm jack. Getting the top bolts are hard.
I have an 07 Mustang V6 thats needing a new clutch. This video will help me out a lot!!! Thanks so much guys!!!! Great video. Wish me luck!! lol
+Adam Pickard Great to hear! Please subscribe if you have not already.
Adam Pickard when you changed your clutch on your 07 v6 do you remember if the pressure plate bolts used a locking washer or just the bolt?
IF I REMEMBER RIGHT.......The pressure plate itself had regular bolts, and i believe there is a torq spec when tightening.
Adam Pickard thank you for the help, yea i found the specs. i just couldn't find anything on the bolts,
MrHernanHdz do you happen to know what the torque spec for the flywheel is?
Great video, very helpful. Appreciate it. Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Any tips on removing the inner exhaust bolts by the exhaust manifold on the driver side? Only thing I could get up there was a 3/8 15 mm deep socket, tried a bunch of combinations with swivels and lengths but can’t get it.
Outstanding video that makes the job seem manageable for a DIY while saving on installation costs. My only suggestion would be to list the torque specs for the bolts on the screen (maybe similar to subtitles?) so we dont have to cross reference the specs by looking it up. Thanks again for posting the video and much appreciated! Subscribed.
Awesome! Thanks for watching sub!
This is an excellent video! Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Great how to video, used it to swap the clutch in my 08 Bullitt.

Is there a difference in flywheel bolts for a v6 2007 mustang? Or is it the same?
Great video, but I have one question...should I use the appropriate sized socket?
@Utube User woooooshhhhh?
Only on it's appropriate bolt
21:21 is the retainer shield separate from the rear main seal? Is that the oil slinger/ baffle?
While this is a great install and I will be using it when I go to do my 2006 Mustang V6 repairs, he makes a lot of oversights. When you remove the pilot bearing, do it BEOFRE installing your brand new shiny flywheel, as any mishap in this stage could gouge your new flywheel and set you back a lot of money and steps. Also there is no reason not to put the guide into the clutch before installing the clutch and pressure plate, this will make alignment much easier. Finally when installing the transmission back into the engine DO NOT use the bolts to tighten the gap. Make sure the transmission is flush with the engine block BEFORE installing the bolts to ensure no warping of the ALUMINUM transmission case.
great tip, I'm about to do this same thing on my 2010 GT too
IT is always great to show close ups but also not to forget to get an areal shot so viewers can get an idea where exactly is the work is and also associate it.
i wished everyone did this on their videos .,! it will be much easier..
I'm going to tackle this on my 08 GT as my clutch as been slipping and is most likely worn out now. I got a new stange two exedy clutch, pilot bearing, slave cylinder with throwout bearing, and a new stainless steel braided clutch line. Wish me luck...
Good Luck
PACxATTACK88
Thanks :)
I didn't watch the whole video when I commented eariler, It was interesting to see that they also used the same exact exedy clutch I bought :D
:-) glad you liked the video
@@2carpros This video helped me do the clutch job myself twice. It took me 10 days both times on jack stands lol.... and now my slave cylinder seems to be going out a third time so we will see. I am definitely getting some help and a lift though, theres no way i'm doing this on jack stands again haha. I love my s197 too much to get rid of it
Excellent video, thank you!
I know my throw-out bearing needs replacement because I can hear it, but I had no idea what that actually meant until now. Didn't know what U-joints were either, though I've heard them referenced a lot. Now I know!
Thanks again, the video is very well done!
***** Thank you for the comment, please subscribe!
what kind of axle grease did you use on the transmission
Great video! This is definitely going to help me do this project in a couple weeks! I was curious how long this job takes on average of anybody knows?! Thank you
Good call on that steel braided clutch line Michelangelo Hamato. My factory line blew out while doing some "SPIRITED DRIVING" sucked the clutch pedal straight to the floor. Brake fluid caught fire because it sprayed onto the exhaust headers. I also added a ISO clutch remote reservoir to solve BRAKE FADE problems. BREMBO 6 PISTON FRONT 15 INCH ROTORS BREMBO 4 PISTON REAR 14 INCH ROTORS.
Heh heh my clutch line popped out on the on ramp to the highway when I was at 4k rpm in 2nd gear. I pulled over and had the car towed home. I already had the braided line at the time, but one of the metal clips backed out slightly where the line connects to the plastic elbow by the transmission. I just used a dab of black silicone to make sure everything would stay together next time...
Yes it is the same process for the v6 but just might look different.
In the middle of this job now on my 2006 Mustang GT. I have fitted the transmission in and taken it back out twice now because while we get the input shaft lined up and through the clutch, there is still about 3/4" before it meets the back of the block. We can't manually push it any closer. I suspect it is simply the hydraulic throwout bearing that is preventing us from manually pushing it the rest of the way. (?) Should I just use the bellhousing bolts to pull it in the rest of the way?
great video guys.
Thanks for watching!
clear and nice explanation
Is this the same as my 2006 v6? And what clutch kit should I get? What components do I need? My clutch is slipping :(
Great explanation video! I think there are seven bolts for the transmission and two are longer than the other four. I was wondering if you remember where the two long bolts go that bolt the transmission back to the block? Are they the two top bolts? I bought a roller and trying to put it back together.
Need help put new clutch kit and flywheel and throw out bearing and reinstalled now there is no pressure in the clutch pedal, tried bleeding it for a couple hours and still nothing, any suggestions?
Is the manual transmission on this 2005 a T5? I'm looking for a video to take one apart
Thanks for the vid very helpful any suggestions on where to find all the tq specs and use of loctite?
***** Google search for your torque specs and you can also use loctite on the flywheel bolts. Not needed if you tighten properly. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe if you have not already.
Did the retainer plate leak at the joint where oil pan and retainer meet in the corners
very good work thanks for you
Thank you for watching!
Back in April I went through this process on my 05 gt when I swapped the auto transmission to manual transmission. Everything went smoothly and NO a lift is not needed! My dad and I raised the car enough to have enough clearance to move the trans form underneath. Best mod i could've done very happy with the results.
Exile what did you lift car with? just jack stand on highest setting?
@@TallCade jack and stands and used cinder blocks
Exile went with the shop 😂Got it warrantied
@@TallCade guess whos pulling out the transmission again lol yep i think either my slave cylinder went bad or the pressure plate sucks
@@TallCade thats cool how much did they charge you?
do the pressure plate bolt have locking washers?
Doing mine now great video. I’m only having one issue, can’t my very top bolt out. Everything is going fine. I regroup and get that last bolt tomorrow so I’ll be ready when my parts arrive.
Take your time, it isn't a race. You will get it! Thanks for watching!
Where's the playlist to these songs? This video is awesome, so many good tips. Is there a tools list?
Now, one thing is not clear to me, do we have to use the appropriate size socket?
Such a detailed video. I am going to have the clutch replaced on my mustang too. I wanna try it myself. I have got everything except the transmission lift. Any suggestions for alternates?
Just buy a transmission Jack.
Very nice well put video you can learn and absorb alot from it but the job is too much work lol still great tho
What size tool do you use for the fly wheel removal
Great video.
Thank you for watching!
very good .thank you
Hello, thank you for the video. I have a 2005 Ford Mustang V6. Would you happen to have any recommendations for a clutch kit? Thanks again!
I'd have to go with Ford OEM Thanks for watching!
Awesome video!
Quick question: Do you prime the throwout bearing with hydraulic fluid to prevent air bubbles or do you just connect the line to it? Thanks
+Dano Vido Just connect the line and pump the pedal, the system is self bleeding.
Minute 28:43 was it a metal clip the one you used to connected back to the belt housing?
is the acrankshaft rear seal was damage causes oil sealing on the clutch ??
The rear main seal goes bad every 150k miles or so. Its a good practice to replace the seal as preventative maintenance
Awesome video guys. I'm looking to replace my factory clutch in a few weeks. Did yall run into any unforeseen problems with yall's job?
Thank you ) Good job
Thank you for watching!
what kind of swivels are you using?
Nice bro btw m new subscriber
Hey what clutch kit did you use for this install? Did you have to shim the slave cylender for an aftermarket clutch? I'm worried that the gap won't be correct with an aftermarket clutch and a resurfaced flywheel.
Also did you use an aftermarket throwout bearing/slave or the OEM motorcraft part?
Is a lift needed to do this job
Thank you for the video. I can't wait to pay someone else to do it for me,lol.

toyota 4 speed manual transmissionlj
but it's easy!! didn't you hear the nice music in the background?
2CarPros hi would you recommend stage 2 clutch on the small car with four cylinder 2.0l ??? Thank you !!!!
😂😂😂
So do i need to drain oil? I'm at the point i just got my flywheel off. Swapping TR3650 to the Magnum 6 speed. Replacing pilot not sure if i'm going to tackle rear main seal. I wish i had a Lift for my Mustang looks like it made everything a lot easier. i did invest in the Race ramp car blocks and damn it did help with the height.
Justin Bennett No need to drain the oil, ya the lift does make this repair and filming a lot easier but can still be done on the ground. Please subscribe if you have not already.
Great guide. Just heads up, never set a new clutch on anything dirty like the old one. Thanks for this guide.
Great video thanks
Thanks for watching!
Ummm the very last step of adding fluid you added break fluid the the break fluid canister? Is that hooked to that fluid or was it an over-site?
The clutch uses brake fluid from the brake reservoir. Thanks for watching!
When you were dropping the transmission I noticed you had it tilted, perhaps to clear the clutch assembly? Did you have trouble making clearance in order to drop the transmission and if so, got any tips?? Thanks!!
On a 13 i had to loosen the K-member to get enough clearance for the trans to slide back enough to clear the clutch
Can someone pls explain @21:23 he is punching the retainer shield against the rear main seal? I don’t understand what’s happing there did he install a rear main seal and after that a retainer shield and punches it in so it will sit on the crankshaft? Are those 2 different parts?
Last step, we like to keep the exhaust mid pipe clamps pointing down so that the customer can have the joy of tearing the exhaust off over a speed bump. lol
NuarStanger Good catch, unfortunately the mechanic didn't record him fixing this off camera. Thank you for the comment.
2CarPros cool, i hoped those got rotated afterwards :)
You literally have me laughing over here!!!
NuarStanger this actually happened to me. Ruined a custom made mid muffler setup.
So, should I use the appropriate sized socket?
zappa!
Yes, brother.
TheMausymaus lol
10/13mm mostly and 12 hex 12mm
And the factory to torque for the bolts. Since they know own already why not mention in the video. Now I have to do more research
Nice😂.. my question is: does the same clutch kit fit to all Mustang 4.0 from 2005 to 2009?
Great video with awesome instructions. I’m currently waiting on an exedy stage III clutch with TOB and lightweight flywheel so I can perform the job on my 2007 GT. One question I have though, does it matter what gear I have the transmission in when I disconnect the linkage or does it not matter as long as it stays the same for when I reconnect it? Let me know :) this video made what I thought was a very difficult job seem fairly simple and straightforward. Once I get parts and a set of socket extensions, It’ll be time to do the install. Will come back for an update if I remember. Thank you!
Kyson hey man I’m about to do the same thing on my 06. Did you ever figure out if it matters to leave your car in gear or not when you dropped your transmission?
Doesn't matter. Probably a little easier to get the spline to slide back into the engine if it's not in neutral though. Sometimes twisting the tranny back and forth helps get it to slide in. If you were in neutral the spline might turn too.
Thanks for your vds i would love to be one of them
Thanks for watching!
great video, about to start the same job. I do not have the clutch centering tool, can you get away with out it?
+Matthew Thomson Yes and No!.... You don't have to have it.......you could "eyeball" he whole thing to center.....but it's a hassle .....we're a long way from aluminum case 4 speeds on guy could push into place....this a much heavier transmission and you only want to raise it and push it "home" one time......the first time......so I simply would do it without the tool. If your clutch didn't come with the tool......universal centering tools can be bough for really small change at any auto parts store.
Would you say this could be done in a relatively small garage under 4 jack stands? Also where do you find manufacture torque specs?
It is possible if you have everything for the job. If you want to find torque specs on specific parts you can google search it. Someone somewhere on a forum has posted it.
Can you please do a video exactly like this but for a 1999 manual transmission ford mustang 3.8L V6 232?? It's for my car and im also trying to learn and going to school for a automotive repair technician degree.
Is this applicable to 2007-2012 GT500’s as well?
The biggest mistake is a pinched wiring harness at the block and transmisson. Please note that you need to be careful and make sure the harness is pulled up over the engine and NOT get pinched. I made this mistake and the car went into limp mode and sending codes P102, P0135, P0141, P0155, P0161, P0403, P0443, PO0446 and P1489. Do not be fooled into buying all new sensors to fix the problem. Fuse 49 will be blown when there is a short in the wiring harness.
I have a 2007 4.0 V6 Mustang. Do you know if the clutch line connection is the same as what you show?
Should be yea. Thanks for watching!
Good video, everything you did looked good to me. I just had a question about using the type of silicone you were using in this video. This was the first time I have seen somebody use the type of silicone that you would find in a home depot for windows and doors (GE brand rain ready). I have only ever seen somebody use the RTV you buy at the autopart store. It never crossed my mind that you could even use that stuff instead. I suppose that stuff works exactly the same as RTV. Also, I am sure the price of that big tube of silicone cost much less than the little tube of rtv you find at the autoparts store (that stuff is expensive). If this stuff works the same I will have to start using that in the future just because I know it is a lot cheaper. Well thanks for the great video. I will be subscribing to your channel.
This is silicone based grease used for lubrication of metal parts. Thanks for subscribing, tell a friend!
As a college student, I'll have to be doing this myself in a month or so haha. It sucks being poor but you get a lot of experience since you can't afford to pay people lmao
Thank you so much for watching!
JayGT I commented here a couple years ago, I tackled this job and it took me ten days but O nailed everything thanks to this video. My only advice is to lube the rear main seal if you touch it, I didn't do that and I'm sure thats why I have to top off my oil so much, I probably have a leak. I'm sure my car burns oil too lol. You're probably better off not touching it. If you need any help, message me
i didn't see a clutch fork for the throw-out bearing. is this because it is a hydraulic clutch and uses fluid pressure instead of a cable/linkage system?
soldierkiller29 yep. It’s an exedy hydraulic TOB
nice video.
