Me: Oh, apparently it wasn't working.

Love how this aired just after a Voltron episode aired so all the kids just watching it and enjoying the show got THIS
Also is kinda weird at the same time is because the source material for Lion Voltron, Beast King GoLion there was a plot point edited out where in the first episode the Japanese version has humanity going extinct due to nuclear war. Creepy as the EBS initally was made for the event of a possible threat of the Soviet Union nuking us so......okaaaay?

This is from KTTV, Los Angeles. They later did one with the electronic waves

Joseph A. Sobora I think KTLA had the electronic waves.

Paul LaRue yeah, it was KTLA with the electronic waves and the wavy one came out the year before this the waves came out in 1983 I think and this one was from 1984

I saw the second KTTV EBS test with the dark red bar at the bottom with the Los Angeles script like the one from KCBS 2 and no wavy lines in sight and still ran during cartoons

This Is KTTV's Later Screen From 1984. Prior To It, It Used A Huge Civil Defense Logo Slide In A Blue Background.

Yes! When I taped this, I was hoping it was still the CD one. That one, as a kid was pretty scary. This one seems rather tame by comparison. I am glad I captured it though since they have dropped these entirely now in exchange for screen scrolls.

This test has the loudest attention signal I've ever heard!

I believe KTTV 11 had this, in the 1980s.

Speaking of Voltron, KTTV ran their EBS tests during cartoons in LA making the others like WXON in Detroit, KPLR in St. Louis, WUPW in Toledo, WUAB in Cleveland, WVTV in Milwaukee, and WPHL in Philadelphia.

The one with the electronic waves would be in the late 80s, most likely 1988.

WVTV’s Test From 1980 was founded but it was Partial after a Woody Woodpecker Short.

I Found WVTV's Test From 1991 With A Weird Texture Slide. Maybe kinda 80s movement for the slide itself. With the background as the WVTV Texture used in the late 1980's and into the early 1990's.

I prefer this to the horror in my ears of today. Also it's nostalgic.

What about KCOP 13's EBS slide? KCOP's had a fixed time unlike the two Chicago stations WBBM (Sunday 8:30am) and WMAQ (Saturday noon) and one in Detroit WXYZ (random weekday at 10am).

+Nick albers According to a couple of my staff at my High School, they recalled KCOP 13's EBS Test Slide. It had a red, yellow and blue background with the words "EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM" on the top of the screen in white. On the bottom of the screen, it had scrolling text in white and during the tone, they had the wavy lines in which they are colored black.

+xXAKA2000Xx How many lines of text with the words Emergency broadcast system on KCOP 13's?

  • @nicka727

Where are the wavy lines? The tone sounded in this test and I saw nothing at the bottom. What year did the test added the wavy lines in KTTV's?
