The Grindavik Golf Course On The Plate Boundaries - Seriously Damaged

  • This is the beautiful and very special but seriously damaged golf course is situated in a graben on the plate boundaries just a few km. west of Grindavik. It's been closed since the November 10th event and awaits approval from the authorities after a ground penetration scan in order to detect hidden fractures. If that goes well, it will be opened in a few weeks but i'm leaving a link to the club.
It's name is Húsatóftavöllur and the upper area is a unique natural pearl where the European plate meet the American plate in all their glory, but it's also making it prone to the volcanic/ tectonic elements caused all this damages on November 10th last year. The footage is only a few days old.

At least they don't have to spend money putting in bunkers, traps, and other obstacles. Mother Nature does it for them! and they change all the time, so every time you play it's a different course.

Some players at the 89th hole have run out of balls (not cohonas) and have sent out messengers to others at hole 156 trying to find out just how many holes there are.

On the one hand, this whole situation is devastating for the people of Grindavik.
On the other, it puts a whole new dimension to the phrase 'Dam it, lost my ball again!'

    Two thoughts.
    1. That would be expensive to repair!
    2. The golf course shows the scale of the rifts in a more understandable way than what houses do. Dang, they are big.

So sorry for the golf course damage and all who are missing it...but this video is amazing in its reality. And it is good for me, a non-Icelander, to see the up close and personal loss that so many Icelanders must be feeling with the current slow and difficult destruction of a way of life once lived in an amazing and thriving community.😘 Thank you for the reality check, Gylfi! I sincerely hope there will be a renewal of this community and all who live/have lived here.

I suppose it’ll be some time before they map where all the hidden fissures are, let alone determine whether repairs are even possible, let alone profitable. The exposed fissures looked quite deep! Though I’ve met golfers who would enjoy the deep hazards. Like something from a “most exotic golf courses” calendar.
