Great video Marie-Anne! I love the fact that you never "overact" like some American you-tubers do. As a Belgian, I prefer the old school way of presentation - it also makes you very attractive! A la prochaine! X
I agree with everything you say, I don’t think any of these best sellers are at all chic, I don’t even like the top as much as you did. They do reflect mainstream American taste, which is why we prefer to watch your French styling!
In my town it's jeans, hoodies and yes...I even see people walking around in flannel pj pants!😵 I watch Marie-Anne so I can elevate and look nice!
I couldn’t agree with you more, Kimberly.
I always appreciate your candor when it comes to style, Mari-Anne. Amazon shoppers certainly are a mixed bag when it comes to chic style!
I like how you gave alternate suggestions for the items.
I agree with the ratings. I have never bought clothes from Amazon. I won't want the hassle of returning them. Thanks for the video Marie-Anne
Nothing about buying clothes on Amazon screams 'Style' to me. That doesn't mean there are no nice clothes available on Amazon, just that it's not a strong point of the platform - an awesome platform for so many other things, but the format isn't great for clothes shopping. I think loads of people would agree with me. Therefore, the bestsellers are more likely to be about convenience and price than about a style choice. There are so many other platforms where you can find nice things, displayed well, curated appropriately, and even at discounted prices. I think you have been very fair and objective in your assessments and have managed to find some good alternatives, which takes a bit of effort. It was an interesting exercise, thank you! xx
Please….where do you shop?
@@wilmabrock6257 I am an incurable vintage shopper... The manufacturing quality of garments has deteriorated in recent times and so I prefer vintage. I don't have a huge clothes budget. I've found great handmade, material quality on ethnic clothing sites, but that tends to be prints. The rest of the time it's usually vintage or outlets. I love boutiques though, random sale rails, sites like Asos Marketplace (very hit and miss), Vestiaire, Vide-Dressing. I'm British so charity shops have been in my life forever.I don't use them much now, but the mindset of randomness and discovery is still there. Pretty much every Brit goes in those shops at some time or another, rich or poor. It's all about identity. Style is about dressing your sense of identity. I don't think Amazon is concerned with that. It doesn't have to be, it's just my observation.
Agree. I don't shop on Amazon for clothes because of the lack of quality fabric. The average American woman is 5'4" and size 14-16. There may be a lack of choice for people. The department stores are getting rid of petite and plus sizes. It would be interesting to know the most popular sizes sold also.
@@eileenternullo8077 Yes, that's a good point. Sizing can't be ignored.
I can't imagine buying clothes on Amazon. Totally off topic though, it's getting to scarf season and I would love some videos on how to choose and tie scarves - french chic style! Love your videos Marie-Anne.
I agree with you. I love your alternative fashions. I love it when you are amused. I watch all of your videos.
I really enjoyed this video Marie-Anne! I'd love to see more like this!
The blouse with lace arms is terrific and fits perfectly. Thank you for this suggestion from Amazon. I love it
Thanks, Marianne! I already bought the lace-sleeved top. It looks really nice! Now I'll watch the rest of the video and see what else I buy .😃
Bootcut jeans are so flattering on petites and never go out of style. I found a nice casual white stretch jean pencil skirt from Lexi on Amazon. It’s long so I had it shortened, it’s perfect to wear with a nice floral blouse or t-shirt, very affordable and comfy!
Great assessment. You are sooo right!!
I own that long sleeve top with the red roses on the sleeves and I get compliments wherever I go.
Interesting video. I like the way you look at more-or-less everyday items (some good, some bad) and then elevate their style. A great way to model good shopping habits and thought habits. Thanks.
💯% agree with your ranking.😆 Amazon is not a reliable place to buy many things. Thanks for including alternatives! Brilliant!
You are so great! I value your advice so much. Thank you ever so much.
I agree with everything you said Marie Anne. #10 🤣 , not sure why Crocs were invented, really. This video was fun to watch. Thank you from NYC 😍
Crocs...arent they just the ugliest?
In Montana we feel the holes are there because that is where the owners dignity runs out 😁
I agree. My children didn't and I wouldn't allow it either. 😁
Would love a top 10 retailers for quality clothing.
Yes please!
Yes please
Yes, yes, yes. Please.
Hi Marie-Anne! I don’t usually ever buy clothes on Amazon but I did buy a London Fog classic trench-coat from them last season at half price from what it was selling for in a very nice department store here - I was actually asked if it was a Burberry one day when I was wearing it - of course I was also wearing my Hermes scarf and carrying a lovely leather handbag so ..... I think it’s all about having quality accessories and well fitting clothing that is also well made . I try to find reasonably priced high quality clothing and occasionally splurge on special accessories that don’t have logos on them - no logos for me! It takes a lot of time but the results in my closet are worth it! 😘💋
Thank you Marie-Anne. I cannot image buying nor wearing most of the TOP Ten. But I love how you use your "heart' to describe the unflattering in such a kind way. You teach me how much important it is to have style inside than outside! Merci Beaucoup
The first dress that you feel disappointed is the one I purchased and I’ve received many compliments on that dress. I selected short sleeve, I’m petite and very curvy. It didn’t make me look short, reached down to my knees, I wore nude shoes and I was told I looked relaxed, and very summery.💋
I agree with you in all counts. Great Job!
Thank you very much for this video. I agree all of your words. 🙏👍🥰
Very illuminating. Thank you!
Agree with every comment! I also love your alternatives! 💟
I love #4! I like #7, too. I think you are spot on in all of the categories.
xo~linda
Entertaining & informative. I liked how you had your classic alternatives.
This is a really good idea for a fashion video. Examples and guidance !
I have bought some nice midi skirts from Amazon, that Grace Karin brand is a good one to check.
Regarding skirts , please have a look on Amazon at the Kate Kasien wrap skirt. I own two and it's an 11.
The pretty black top reminds me of some of the really chic Anne Fontaine black blouses.
Love this video! Please do more!
Thank you for my daily chuckle!
And thank you for the Calla shoe link! Finally a company that makes shoes for women with bunions!
Thank you for this video. The one time I purchased a "best seller" turtleneck on Amazon, I returned it immediately after it was delivered to me. It had a strange chemical odor and the material felt like it was made out of some type of latex/rubber material. The fit was droopy and it wasn't flattering at all. Since then, I've been shopping on more reputable sites and if an item I want to purchase costs more, I'd rather pay extra for the quality, knowing it'll be timeless and last much longer.
I wish more Americans would go that route
I love how all her picks get 9 and 10 ratings. Kind of funny. But she's totally right on every item!
I agree with all your observations on the different styles here! Your presentation was fun and your honesty is a breath of fresh air :) This said, I would not recommend buying clothes on Amazon to anyone. And I haven't done it myself because I do not support this giant company which is neither ethical nor environmental friendly. When my wardrobe needs something new, I try to avoid fast fashion and to buy from local shops that offer quality and where I can touch and try on first. When that's not possible, I buy online from local companies and if possible family businesses.
Couldnt agree with you more…crocs look so cute on children. :)
Let's start with the looks 👌😍and the Ootd. Stunning combination. Luv.
Fantastic video, Marie-Anne. So practical and I can see the difference between the most popular and your choices so clearly now! Thank you!
Thank you Marie-Anne and I completely agree with you. Love your French style school👌
Another fabulous video from Madame Marie-Anne! I love that trench coat and of course the black is sold out in my size.
Loved this video, agreed with everything especially the crocks I just don’t understand them at all.
Good morning Marie Anne
These Amazon clothes scream cheap cheap cheap!! The only one l thought worthy of a mention are the Lee trousers. La Redoute, Marks Spencer, H & M, Zara and many many others sell much better fashion in the same price bracket. Buy patio cleaner, household items etc from Amazon but buy clothes from a bona fide fashion outlet. Really good video that hopefully will encourage others to question Amazon and look to specialist sites to buy clothes.
You are our Style Champion❤️♥️💜
I always look at your videos then consider what l have in my wardrobe to follow your example. You are our personal fashion guru 😘
I have never bought any clothes from Amazon. I have two goals when buying online. I want quality and consistent sizing. When I buy something I want to wear it for at least five years. This works if the item fits into my wardrobe and style. Thanks for this interesting video.💕
Oh, this was so much fun!! What a great idea, Marie-Anne!! Yes number 10 was the a shocker. So fun, thank you!!!
Marie-Anne I love your natural elegance that you exude even when rating chic-less... clothing! You have influenced my style and for the first time ever in my life and I am over 50, I feel confident with my wardrobe and realize there are pieces I have that are timeless so I must have had some intuitive fashion sense that thanks to you, I am now experiencing and am getting amazing reactions to. Thank you very much.
This was a great, useful video, thank you! It helped me realize as a young American woman, I tend to gravitate towards things that are loose, comfortable, and not very flattering. You helped me find a couple better alternatives for fall. Thanks!
This was fun! Great idea!
Bonjour Marie-Anne! I want to tell you that I like the clean, modern background you've been using - very nice! However, I really did love seeing your charming, relatable dressing room. You provide a substantial and delightful service to women everywhere. Thank you so much!
I personally feel you are spot on in your assessment of these items. Skirts are hard to find. Especially on Amazon. I have made quite a few of mine and have found some cute ones second hand from ThredUP. I really don’t care for Crocs. I wear old sneakers for gardening. I know bootcut jeans are a staple but for some reason I can’t get into them. And I have no specific reason why. I have some jeans but I usually wear pants. I think you look marvelous in the style. Maybe one day I will change my mind. Fun watching you ❤️❤️❤️
I agree that skirts are tough lately. I order mine from a classic clothing company in the UK. Locally if I ask for a wool skirt they think I'm looking for a knit, and department stores drive me mad as if you lit a match the whole place would melt (my pet peeve!). I really want a pleated skirt that is stitched down to the hip and is knee length... been looking for a couple years now!
I love your channel 💕🇺🇸 I'm a newer subscriber always ,look forward to your videos
Ohh I do like that striped pullover. I've been going mad for Breton striped tops lately.
Oh my, crocs are horrible, i have no idea why anyone would wear them, even for gardening there are better alternatives. These are truly a pet hate of mine.
Yet you made another good video , agree with your points about how each item is or is not flattering . Skirts for me too is a big problem . Now I am paying at lot of attention to style of shoes and comfort and keep them in good condition. Have a good day 👍
Hello Marie-Anne! I have the dress you suggested as an alternative to the one that's too short and balloon-like, and while it's not of great quality, I find it serviceable, so I agree with your recommendation. I wouldn't wear it to a restaurant, but to run a quick errand on a Saturday morning, with a denim jacket on top, or a thin leather belt and sandals, it's perfectly fine. It's very comfortable, almost like wearing a long t-shirt, but a little bit more "appropriate" for wearing outside the house than an oversized shirt would be. (I actually have 2 of them in solid colors---no horizontal lines for me!)
Yes bootcut is the kindest cut of all.
This video was fun to watch, Marie-Anne. Please record more like it. You “nailed” the scores on these items, and I really prefer your picks, especially those bootcut jeans and the trench coat. I will never understand the crocs for adults obsession regardless of their comfort, but I feel that way about UGGS also. Big and shapeless anything = big and shapeless body parts. Give me French style any day! C’est vrai. 💝
Very clever! Admittedly, for the first couple of examples I was shocked that they were included. UNTIL, I saw your rating! Your “1” was generous on a few!😉. I loved the inclusion of your criteria.
Agree with the ratings. But, I now only buy clothes from shops where I know the quality and sustainability regarding worker conditions and environmental issues in manufacturing are taken into consideration. I have become very fussy buying items thanks to you and fussy about sustainability thanks to others. The ideal would be your taste with a sustainable and ecological outlook, supporting smaller designers and shops that attempt to do something about the terrible waste and environmental damage of the textile industry. Not negative about Amazon. I know people who work for them, and they are happy. But, just that I want to know where my clothes are made and what materials they use.
Oh my! Those best selling items had no class. I agree with you.
You do the most interesting things. Loved it
Unexpected content done so well. I really cracked up over your giggle! I love your channel!👍
Love the trousers and cardigan you chose!
Your assessments are spot on I would say . I do know people that have worn Crocs after injuring their foot as they are so wide and do provide some level of foot protection . I've only ever tried my daughter's Crocs on years ago and knew they weren't for me but perhaps as a kid's summer shoe as you mentioned .
Thoroughly enjoy your videos!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
😄 I actually bought that stretchy skater mini skirt for my latin dance studio workouts! Certainly not to walk outside!! Aaaaa 😖
Hello Marie I didn't see all of your videos, however I enjoy them I find them very great. Do you have a video regarding how to use parfums?
I totally agree with your reviews but not # 4 sweaters due to quality .. I bought it a few months ago thinking it fits your recommendations re: style . I was so disappointed( as mentioned by another viewer ) . It arrived with broken buttons , a very strange smell , it looks lovely but when I tried to return it , it was very difficulty to do so . This particular line of clothing came to me via China . At the time I ordered the company had a different name and I keep seeing this line of clothing popping up under different names . Really read the return policy. One line , Shein , appears to be well run . Many of my younger friends ( age 30- 45 ) order from them. Again excellent video .
Great video, Marie anne…please do the same one with shoes…
Hi. Is there a way to provide links to your recommendations? Thanks.
I give your video a French Chic 10. Thanks for sharing. OH, I agree with everything however I wear crocs in the garden or as a house shoe. They do work in that environment.
Mostly polyester, so that’s a huge NO from me….. the trousers you chose and the trench though … 👍🏻. Would love your Amazon picks x
Thank you for the trench coat suggestion! The shoes from the links seem quite expensive though.
Just look for similar styles Lar 😃 shoes on Amazon don't tend to be that high end or expensive
I agreed with every item you mentioned Marie-Anne. I have to say I don't find many clothing items to my taste on Amazon and some are not particularly cheap but also lacking quality. I've found that the older I get, the more groomed I like to look, even when casual I have to make an effort and shapeless throw on styles in low quality fabrics just don't do it for me. I loved the alternatives however. Clothes take some sifting through on Amazon, I tend to give up searching by the time I find what I'm looking for 😴🤭 I find TU at Sainsbury's and supermarket clothing very reasonable, some H & M items, Marks & Spencer's and just yesterday I purchased the most beautifully tailored ankle length wide leg culottes in black from Zara, the fit and cut are superb, they look as though they were made for me. I just know I'll feel great in these with my quilted ballet flats. Enjoyed your video x
Merci pour cette vidéo. Mom and I were talking about how these pictures look great on the model when they sell clothes online and on catalogs (obviously to sell), but the actual product is often disappointing. I appreciate your legwork on evaluating those Top 10 Items. I can’t believe those hideous Crocs (confession: I wear my daughter’s old ones only for gardening) and that horrid floral dress made it.
I finally got my first Vivaia shoes today, including the peach pumps you recommended in your earlier video. (Granted shoes are hit or miss when ordering online, they are expected to be winners!) Those shoes feel like clouds (with a bit of wiggle room-I was worried half a size down would be too tight because I am in between sizes), and I expect them to be my closet staples for years to come. Finally, a heel that is just as, if not, even more comfortable than my sneakers. Bonus: my ballet flats are machine washable! Another bonus: my ballet flats come with detachable ribbons so that I can look like a real ballerina one day and then wear them as regular ballet flats the next. 🩰 One more bonus: I saved quite a bit of money with your code! Thank you! 😘
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Yes, that’s what I heard or read. Unfortunately, that’s why Mom and I had our share of disappointments.
This was a good video and I’m glad to hear your opinions I struggle with function vs style especially in colder weather. I’ve done really well all summer with my outfits and I kind of flounder with the change to winter. I like wearing clothes with some shape and lots of the winter clothes make me look like I’m on a sports team. I ordered a more shapely knee length parka from Eddie Bauer in light gray. Today I found some lined knee high fashion boots with a 2 1/2” heel in dark gray I bought those for church and other special occasions. I think my problem has always been to buy one coat and boots and make it work for everything I just love to go somewhere looking a little more elevated.
The flowered sheer kimono tops are really pretty with a tee shirt and jeans. I don’t buy the real long ones tho because of my height They look gorgeous over a sheath dress. Mine is navy background with pastel pink and blue flowers. I have a solid light pink one and I’m on the lookout for a sheath dress in white with pink flowers. This is the only success I’ve had with clothes from Amazon. I look frumpy in everything else I’ve tried.
Croc shoes are good for gardening and that’s it. Please do more videos like this. 👏😊
Very helpful video! More of these seasonally, please!
I give you a 10 with both thumbs up.
Thank you for your video. I ordered several pieces and like them, but want to offer a few comments. For the Alternative Dress (love it), I had to buy one size larger; the Alternative black rain jacket (nice rain jacket) is true to size but I needed one size larger for a bit more comfort with fall clothes; finally, the Striped Sweater fits true to size but is a bit bulky (though good to have for running around with jeans). Overall, I was surprisingly pleased with these Amazon clothes. I have never ordered clothes from this source previously.
What's not to like about this video?!! Virtual buying is difficult for me and I wish you were by my side, navigating this MA. Clearly, sticking to classics when virtually shopping is substantially more logical, less hassle (fewer returns), economical and successful in the long term.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur that is such a sweet thing to say... and yes, you are the angel sitting on BOTH shoulders. lol
Funny, hmmm, I've been looking at the stripped dress for a while. And totally agree with the Crocs!😂
Thank you Marie-Anne, I have bought VIVAIA 3 times 😆😆, its amazing quality and comfortable. And thanks for your Code too, its help me save around $40+, love you!!😍
@Marie-Anne Lecoeur - The French Chic Expert Thank you 😍😍😍😍
I just got my first pairs of VIVAIA-the peach pumps featured in an earlier video and the ballet flats with detachable ribbons. I was shocked at how comfortable they are, despite being a tad large. (I didn’t want to risk them being too small or tight.) I saved quite a bit, too, thanks to the code!
I agree completely with your ratings!!
This video is kind of eye opening as far as the numbers in volume for items that are really all fast fashion for the most part, or very young styles. Amazon is enormous.
I'll split the difference with you on the jeans and vote for straight leg style, not jeggings and not flared 😉
Oh my goodness! YES! Even on a budget, I have found classic pieces that will last for years! No need to sacrifice quality for price! It has been difficult to replace my entire fall wardrobe (I am four sizes smaller now). I don't care much for names, but I wanted classic, elegant style. I purchased three pristine tweed skirts, fully lined, excellent quality (on Poshmark!) Michael Kors, MaxMara, and Boden. All are pristine tweed, all fully lined! Timeless style, so feminine and lovely. It was truly a celebration to find these treasures at a fraction of the price.... some of them cost less than a new Amazon purchase!
I tried to post a photograph, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. They are beautiful
I would not buy crocs! Insightful and witty video.
I bought the Jersey T-shirt dress, I bought round neck short sleeves in black and burgundy then I accessorize them with scarves very comfortable and nice fit.Do you mean this is just a casual dress to wear when it’s hot in the desert around the house. I agree with you about Amazon clothes 😊🇺🇸
I agree with you %100…. I love tailored clothes but becoming very difficult to find … may I ask where you bought the red jacket you’re wearing?
You look so chic in it 👏🏻💐👏🏻💐👏🏻
thank you Marie-Anne .. I admire you so
Oops!! Sorry. I see you already provided the links. I'm taking a look now.
I absolutely adore the red Boucle jacket you are wearing! So pretty! Could you share where to purchase this garment, please. Love the video. Thx
Interesting video. Thanks.
I like the big flower wrap for a summer public AC shield. It is falsely called a cardigan, but fits the occasional trendy, whimsical fun of dressing within a general framework of classical clothing. Frankly, I thought that straight line plain jane you presented rather frumpy. Also, women with larger breasts cannot wear that style. It just separates awkwardly and hangs to the sides of the breasts. I had the thought that the crocs might be the place for an Amazon buy, as more fitted shoes are better tried on. This was fun with your consummate skill and hospitality toward sharing opinion. Thank you
I purchased the wando trench. It was very poor quality and packets with holes. I had to return it. I agree it looked great in the picture. Just be aware.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you for your gracious reply.
Those kimonos are apparently very popular in the central US over jeans or shorts and a t-shirt. (They’re not big on the more fashion-conscious two coasts.). I did wear a few five or six years ago, but they look dated to me now. Most of them are also very cheap, thin polyester and the prints are not good. There are so many better styles of cardigans, coverups and wraps, including classic ones, I would pass on these.
Not seen in the area I'm in. (Central)
They are quite tacky and would be so in whatever area one lives in.
I love your analysis and your Frenchie ratings. And I think crocs are the ugliest shoes on the planet. I loved your alternatives. Thanks so much. We older women in the US need some guidance and assurance that we can look good while being age-appropriate.
As a runner, I can tell you that “sports bra” will not cut it! My chest is sore just thinking about it! And I have great legs, but I still don’t want to wear mini skirts!
Alot of the women's clothing on Amazon are what I consider throw away clothing. Cheap made and ill fitting. I have a few choice companys that I order from. I like the light weight sweaters from Amazon Essentials. They are good. All in how you treat them. And a pant that I like is from Rekucci Women's secret figure pull on knit straight pant with tummy control. They actually fit and look nice for business attire. Always on the search for good fitting, well made clothing.
i would have thought the fact that so many ppl have the same piece would be a put-off.
