Today, for the first time, I'm reacting to one of Dimash's biggest inspirations, being LARA FABIAN with the song "ADAGIO", which was actually originally composed by Albinoni, but without a voice and lyrics.

@Rock_ Lee I didn’t say that. In some cases there are better choices than her. For example when she sang VISONS OF LOVE live, I thought she didn’t sing it better than Mariah.
But when it comes to her own songs, no one sings them better than her.
Lara is not playing in the same league. Period

Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
• she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish), can speak a bit of sicilian, russian and dutch, and has sung in 12 languages in total
• she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
• she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
• she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs (that she performed originally ; she also wrote some of these).
Out of my mind I can list:

She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ».

They also performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava then again later with Dmitriy and Sumi Jo, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy who came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him.

Hi, Eric!😊 It doesn't make sense to say that she's fluent in French and Italian because as you well know, are her native languages. You could tell people that the 2 are her native languages and that she's fluent in English and Spanish. She speaks Dutch but she doesn't speak Russian. If you consider that she speaks Russian, don't forget about Portuguese (she understands everything and she speaks relatively well). 😉

The irony is that Lara is a HUGE Celine fan, and it was the record company and press who created a rivalry between them! Lara has even said that when she was asked which singers inspired her she didn't say Celine because they would say that she was copying Celine! That is such an injustice to Lara!!!!!!!!!! Lara & Celine do have some vocal similarities at first , but they have VERY different styles and unique qualities. Lara has a darker richer tone while Celine has more agility. They are quite different when you get to know their voices though! So...I don't understand why people try to pit them against each other, I love them both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Celine Dion’s staff was scared of Lara and was the reason she couldn’t penetrate the US market as planned.
But she is a star in many countries. Thru Dimash, many others are rediscovering her.
She has other songs with 20+ seconds notes with modulation up and down. She still sings and had amazing concerts two weeks ago. Still reaching 5th octave with power and resonance.and still the queen of emotions.
She sang in trio with Dimash and another lady (Aida Garafulina) 3 years ago.
She wrote the song Your Love for him and he made many covers of her
Lara is a waaay better singer than Celine Dion could ever wish to be. And Lara is way better than Barbara Streisand too.
I got to dislike Barbara Streisand in the early 80’s when she got more and more over-produced and her sound became very commercial and trite. As for Celine Dion - the first time I ever heard her voice she made me grimace, as her nasal tones and tinny upper notes were just horrid. The weird thing is, that in the past decades, I have cringed at the sound of some female screeching on air. Each time, I’ve asked who’s that? The answer has been Celine Dion. So I guess my initial reaction has remained constant. Ugh!

They were on the same label so Celine management pressured Sony to stop promoting Lara's first english album. Lara may have had success around the world but 20 million albums is not 200 million like Celine so it did affect her career greatly.
@@realmccoy18 yes you are right. But on the other side, she won her freedom, became her own producer, followed her own artistic lane and was not pressured to perform daily in gigantic las Vegas shows. So maybe, ultimately, she did not loose that much, even if she had been very frustrated initially.

Adagio for Lara is the best
I am always amused when people BEGIN listening to Lara Fabian, and they compare her to Celine Dion. Ms Dion is a fine singer in her own way, but quite frankly, she's not in Lara's class. But then, hardly anybody is. Lara is simply the best, not only as a singer, but even more as a performer. She puts everything she has into every performance. Matchless and inimitable!

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and was translated into a pop song for Lara. She wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash, Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, …
They made great covers but none of these match the storytelling amazing performance of Lara in this concert From Lara with Love.
Her italian version is also amazing.

This song is captivating for so many reasons. It is seen as a love song...and it does seem to be that, in a way, to me, after listening and being moved by and singing it myself over and over and over. BUT it is a "love song" to a sort of muse of creativity. It's like she is, as you say, awaiting the god of inspiration (for creativity). I can SO relate to that, as an artist myself in many forms. This is why it is so powerful to me, I think. It is a longing for something NOT of this world but she relates it to more worldly situations to help translate the message for many (hard to describe in words). I think Dimash is one of the most talented singers I have ever heard, but for me for this song, despite Dimash's vocal gymnastics, Lara has it hands down! It says it all that Dimash obviously felt he couldn't improve on Lara's presentation of this fantastic song!

I'm very, very attached to Albinoni's Adagio. For me, Fabian's pop interpretation (especially this performance with _this_ orchestration) is the only game in town. Somehow she retains the echo & pulse of the original. No cover yet has managed to even come close to Fabian's. She built it so patiently & meticulously from beginning to end. No gratuitous vocal gymnastics & the pyrotechnics were organic.
I really love this performance. Just a little bit. 🤣

i really don't get all the fuss about Dimash. but Lara i love...i've known her voice since the 90 because i"m from Quebec where she started her career.
That's ok, I love both😁 I would also agree I prefer Lara's version of this song. But I can't lie, some of the songs and performances I've seen from Dimash seem pretty unmatched in my opinion.
But that's just that of course, my opinion, it's just so interesting to see the different tastes and opinions of so many people😁

For me, it's no comparison with Céline Dion. But lots of people did because of the close timbre of their voices.
One give a performance with voice AND emotions and acting (living the mood and the lyrics, just makes the song real), the other just belt the note (beautiful notes indeed) but no bild up apart from the range, no whisper, no grassy sound, not so much humanity than the other.

I appreciate you my brother. Lara Fabian is Head and Shoulders better then Celine Dion ever was. And also the tone of her voice and the way she delivers a song is second to none. They kept larafabian down so Celine Dion could flourish and kept a lot of Fabian in Europe and did not let her thrive in America because they wanted to build Celine Dion up. Bonjour. Lara est belge. Elle a des racines belges et italienne. Elle a présenté le concours de l’Eurovision l’année où Céline Dion l’a remporté et a fait une place très honorable. Elle est ensuite partie vivre longtemps au Canada puis est revenue en Europe. Aujourd’hui elle vit de nouveau au Canada. Elle a des prestations remarquables. What an incredible singer. Celine Dion is one of the best singers in the world, BUT NEVER she makes us feel all the emotions that Lara Fabian transmits to us. Songs like JE T'AIME LIVE IN PARIS, YOU'RE NOT FROM HERE, BROKEN VOW, LOVE BY GRACE and dozens more of his original songs are masterful performances. Lara is classically trained and way up there with a very small handful - if that - of the best female Vocalists of all time. Her performances are viewed by many professional singers as Master Classes in technical expertise and word painting. Dimash cites her a a key influence while he was studying and they have since performed together. Lara is also a brilliant songwriter and wrote the Lyrics to Adagio which, as you point out, was originally a purely instrumental piece by Albinoni. Much more Lara to enjoy.

Nice reaction! BTW, Lara's real name is Lara Crokaert and she is Belgian, but also a naturalized Canadian citizen. She studied since very young at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles and, I believe, is one of its most brilliant alumni.
