  • On today's Down & Dirty we are doing an equipment review on the ‪@FAEUSA1‬ mulching head. It's a UML/SSL/150 equipped with a sonic system. We've truly run this machine through it's paces and were so impressed we decided to make the switch!

      Welcome to the club! It's worth the money for sure. Great attachments!

    That spring is not useless, inless you like to replace quick couplers all the time.. it has 2 jobs, but the main one is to keep the weight of the hoses off the couplers

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem

      Eh...this one is pretty useless. It does a marginal job at even taking the weight.

    I would really like to know the specific parameters of the hydraulic pump brand, which will benefit me a lot. Thank you!

    Bryan do you guys ever use the debris you mulch as compost?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem +1

      Unless we are required to do cleanup (which is rare) we will leave the debris to compost in place. It's not really worth collecting the material to use elsewhere.

    I bought a sonic head for my skid steer. I love it, but I have had a lot of problems since day one. The FAE engineers seem ready and willing just not able to fix it.

    I know I’m late commenting on your video but I’m looking for info on some heads, I ;inked your review, could you tell me if this is the VT Sonic model or just the Sonic. The FAE site says the VT will give a 50% increase, are you saying just the Sonic model will give you %0% more than a Fecon? Thanks

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 4 měsíci

      I believe ours is a VT but I honestly don't know off the top of my head and our unit lives at Rick's house so I can't go look at the moment. The Sonic technology is what gives you the extra power. The unit is adjusting the flow through the head constantly to get the max torque out of the current flow. As a result your head is able to power through some pretty rough stuff without you having to back out and let the head spool back up. The difference is night and day from the old style heads.

    What Fecon head were you running?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem

      I can't remember the model number but it was a unit that was about 7 years old and comparable to this unit.

    This is a casual review, run that head into any big hardwood or stumps and those carbides are useless. Mulching brush and saplings is the only thing it’s productive at. There are far more productive setups. Like 3-5x times more productive setups.

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem +1

      What were you expecting? We aren't running a Hydro Ax here. It's a mulch head for a skid steer. Nobody is going out doing 1,000 acre land clears with this thing....

    • @joeykunz
      @joeykunz Před rokem

      @@DieselandIron the difference is being able to cut a trail that has big trees in the way. There are very few limitations on size with other heads, there certainly is with this one. Huge difference and they are the same price.

    • @JaredBeaucage
      @JaredBeaucage Před rokem +1

      @@joeykunz if you are mulching anything bigger then a 6-8 inch hardwood with this head you should upgrade to a cmi or other mulcher dozer. If you put knives in the middle or the whole head and are not near rock these heads kick ass. Anything bigger than 6-8inches we chop up and push to the side because any skidsteer would take 30-40 minutes to mulch big trees whole.
