  • Here is an overview of the most popular mulchers made by FAE for Kubota compact excavators. In this video we look at the DML style head which has an unrestricted drum with reversible teeth and ranges in size from 30" to 49". We also take at look at the BL1/EX-075VT which is FAE's mulcher with Bite Limiter technology. These heads are equipped with hydraulic doors, variable speed motors, and quick attach couplers as well. Excellent video on the FAE mulchers. Can you make a video that details the "case drain" set up for a Kubota KX040 and KX057?

Im looking to purchase a 57-5 and one of these heads. Damn I wish you were local to purchase from. My dealer doesn’t do anything with mulching heads so they have no info to help me get started. Id be interested in pricing on a FAE head suitable for a KX57 if possible. Thanks!

I've got the 057-5 on order. How different is the set-up compared to the -4 version. Is it all done through the touchpad control in the cab? I'm in the first stages of looking at the mulcher heads.

Dash 5 machines are similar in mechanical specs and operation. Your primary differences/improvements are in the cab of the machine. A dash 5 has the option for rear back up camera and 5 hydraulic pre sets in the dash. A hidden benefit to a dash 5 is the electronic control valve for your one way two way flow. When you put your mulcher on the machine you will program your flow and tell the one way valve to be open to your tank. This will help prevent any possible motor failures in your mulcher.

Random Comment By Complete Stranger -- I have a 057-5 -- absolutely love it; I upgraded from a KX161 (with high hours) -- loved it as well of course; My family has purchased a bunch of stuff over the last 40 years from Townline -- amazing company and of course Kubota quality speaks for itself. Did you ever get an FAE Mulcher Head? I am looking at them as well.

What FAE head do you recommend for a Kubota KX 080-4?

How do they perform on a Kx 040?

The Kubota U55-4 and the 057, bith 5t excavators have the worst oil flow and pressures of any 5t excavator. Running any forestry head on the machines is a disaster. The oil flow you need to be talking about is at max presuure, or what the mulcher need to spin, not the oil flow at 0 pressure. The 5t kubota relief at the couplers is set to 170bar or 2500psi. These mulchers require at least 220bar or 3200 psi in order to spin the heavy rotor. Pressure V oil flow is what it's about. Compare the likes of Bobcat, Yanmar, Hitachi, CAT, Komatsu, and Takeuchi, and you'll see how pathetic Kubota's hydraulics are. My company has documented info on flow tests of dozens of excavators.
You do, however, make sense talking about one-way circuits. Sorry to rain on your parade, but you need to speak to Kubota hydraulic dept and ask them why flows are lower at the coupllers than other brands. They'll tell that Kubota does have good flows and pressures, but they focus this strength on their breakout force, for digging, the expense of hydraulic attachments.

So what do you recommend , keeping in mind price/performance. I’m done with the Cat tax. 👍

@@victorwathavu I don’t, I have a track loader atm but I was considering a 5T excavation for mulching and digging. I’ve been put off based on poor hydraulic flow but it you know of any that work well I’m all ears. I hear that case have some pretty good flow rates but their website doesn’t mention the actual rates in their specification downloads. Plus I hear some excavations have seperate pumps etc which a.lows the high flow auxiliary to operate consistently. But I’m not at all that knowledgeable on this topic.
