Ian looks like a Wizard and Pat like a hobbit...
Gandalf and Samwise
I love how Ian immediately identified "that's a bong" 😂
Where I can't spot it?
I do protect my games, but not in the sort of obsessive way that will please archaeologists 2000 years from now.

Cryogenics is the next big thing, bro! You need to get your act together! XD
All the callers sound like they're phoning in from Cybertron. ;p
I was thinking they sound like robots from a cheap 70s science fiction movie, but yes that too. Lol
Honestly if Pat keeps the messages sounding this way I really hope someone makes that a gimmick and pretends to be Soundwave or something.

Some of these voicemails are getting creepier and creepier.... 😰
Giles Goddard (born March 30, 1971) is an English video game programmer. He was one of the first Western employees at Nintendo,[1] programming the Mario face in Super Mario 64, and working on titles such as Star Fox, 1080° Snowboarding, and Steel Diver. In 2002, he founded Vitei, a video game developer based in Kyoto, Japan, for which he serves as CEO. -Wiki
The guy sounds like he's asking the questions from inside a plastic protector, lol
Lmao
Ian is ON FIRE with the recommendations. Both the game that he'd love to relive and the game he'd recommend for a lesser known game. I'd love to add the game I'd love to forget to relive again is Eternal Darkness for the GameCube. The way that game messes with you mind was huge when you first played it, but loses it's momentum after playing it multiple times.
I went back with my rom collection of Gamecube games that I think that it is interesting and Eternal Darkness was there! Will play this when I get the chance. Thanks!
My question for Pat and Ian -----------------> If both of you were Professional Wrestlers, what would your wrestling names be AND what would your finishing moves be called?
In the late 80's early 90's there was a wrestler named "Ravishing Rick Rude" (not the best wrestler, but I loved his finishing moves name "The Rude Awakening" So what would be your wrestling names, and what would your finishing moves be called. (Also would you want to be known as "Bad Guys" or Good Guys"?
Yes clear plastic protectors always. Every game I own is in one, boxed or loose. Why not? They keep the games clean and free of dust, they prevent label damage when handling them or traveling with them, and I think games look good inside of them. The only downside is having to buy them. Sometimes I have only needed 1 but had to buy a lot of 5 or 10 because they are cheaper that way. Now I have dozens of them I do not intend to use, however if I need them they are waiting there. Also recently many of them have a film on them you need to remove which I do not care for but it is not a big deal. I will always use clear plastic protectors and hope whoever I buy games from has done the same.
There’s gotta be something wrong with the Anchor files or website or even the playback from Pat’s laptop/mixing board.
There’s no way every call had such a strange echo.
I always enjoy the show. Avoid the trolls guys. It's easy to step right into them!
The guy smoking the bong was the best part, so random!
Putting video games in protectors is the equivalent of sleeving TCG cards: It slows down aging, keeps dust and moisture out, and ensures that they can remain functional if you ever feel like playing them again! So I think it’s a great idea to do that!
"I'd buy *that* for a dollar" 😉😁🤑
I would definitely like to experience halo 3 for the first time again
Same
I wish I could play the Blade Runner PC game for the first time again.
I played a gig in Salisbury Maryland back in the day..... I expected more of a reaction when I mentioned Salisbury steak and if it was any good there... Wasn't a good time lmao.
I would recommend keeping them in some kind of closed drawer like I do to keep out long term dust, but fuck no way I'm spending the money to put plastic protectors on hundreds of carts and add another step to playing them/putting them away. I can barely be fucked to put them away period.
you dont need to swear :P
@@Kunstschilder1987 I said the most commonly used swear in the English language only once per sentence, fuck off! XD

To go back and play The Secret of Monkey Island for the first time back in highschool when there was no Yourtube etc, finding out solutions and sharing with mates was awesome, great times.

I'm got some serious "A Serbian Film" vibes from that question. :-D
Do I wanna know what that is? o_O
@@CoreDreamStudios Don't even look it up, dude! XD
It's considered one of the most disturbing films ever made. The uncut version was recently released in North America, so I ordered the Blu-ray. Still haven't sat down and actually watched it, and when I do, I'm sure I'll have regrets. lmao
@@Fluoride_Jones Welp thanks for the heads up, sounds like nightmare fuel.

That Star Wars Trilogy Arcade game was so good.
In my opinion, you should always use protection... ;)
Having a big collection of games I often wonder out of 700+ games how many do you like ?? I loved Nintendo growing up and often I was disappointed.. but I was always looking forward to a new game.. I can probably put games I actually like under 25
@Diss Raps I meant specifically NES.. if you think I have taboo on NES because I like it you are mistaken
Yeah, my primary goal when I really got I to snes collecting was to aim for what were commonly considered the top couple hundred games. I have picked up crap that I found for a good deal, so I'm closer to 300 now. But I definitely like the more clear, directed kind of collecting for sure. Otherwise what is REALLY the point? For me, the answer to that isn't particularly positive.
I like the bottom covers for loose Snes Carts, and I like my NES carts in the original sleeves
Shadow of the colossus would be the game for me to play again for the first time. Played it first on ps2, then the remaster on ps3, then the remake on ps4, but it was never like finding, seeing, and battling those colossi for the first time!
I know it's new but I'd love to experience narita boy and it's world for the first time again.
Final fantasy 4 A link to the past or mk 2 arcade would be fantastic to experience for the first time again.
I just clean cartridges when I get them and keep dust sleeves if I’ve got them available and I keep my copy of earthbound in an old rental case. Other than that they are all lined up neatly on shelves and out of any sunlight.
I use protectors for boxed games that came in shitty paper boxes. Stuff like NES, SNES, Game Boy, etc. Not everyone did it right like Sega back then. Those clam shell cases were great.
Definitely something genesis did better than everyone else. Sega originated a game being kept in a box/ protective case. Paper boxes weren't meant to be kept
Yeah they started off good and then cheaped out later on by using cardboard, and then later generation games were in those easily cracked plastics.
@@inputfunny Their cardboard was still better because it was a slip cover and the game part slid out. They didn't get damaged as easily.
@@mr.awesome6682 Yeah, but it was bad in other ways. The piece that holds the cartridge damaged easily.
If I was displaying games then I think plastic protectors make sense to avoid dust, etc. If they're boxed up in a cupboard, then no. I'd very much recommend plastic protectors for rare game boxes though to avoid damage.
I've bought many for my Games, because i felt sad that many got damaged over Time (while moving, because i was young etc.) and i like those old Boxarts and change those i am displaying.
It makes them also a bit shiny :)
I would erase Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, while I've loved every playthrough nothing was quite like the first time playing through it
Yes I was thinking the same thing
All of my loose carts that are not in bins are in protective baggies or clear cases from Retro Protection. This protects from dust, silverfish, and moisture damage.
When I asked my question I was only thinking of story based games myself but after hearing your guys take on it i can totally see something non story based being a great choice
I put my cib cardboard boxes in the soft plastic protectors. But there's an argument that the protectors trap moisture and can lead to mildew on the cardboard boxes
I wish I could play MGS 1 or Zelda OoT for the first time
Thats like asking if we could keep the cases discs come in. It's not mandatory, but it aids in the game's longevity.
I use Custom Game Cases because they look nice on a shelf.
Side note, if your child throws out game cases, or doesnt put the game back in the case, they dont deserve to own a console.
You can keep loose carts in a box it's fine. Boxs protect the carts from dust, debris and sun light. But I did invest in the plastic cases when I completed the US turbografx 16 libary. So it just boils down to personal preference
I collect complete games and i STILL put protectors on the cases so they don't get scuffed and scratched as I pull them on and off the shelf 😅
Erasing a game from memory in order to play it for the first time again?
Final Fantasy VII.
But there would be additional requirements for it in that I would have to go back in time and temporarily erase games inspired by it from memory as well. Time travel because that game was tied to its marketing as a "cinematic experience" in its time as much as it was fun to play and back then I was just as into how it was presented as the game itself. The game was a product of where it was in game history.
Simply erasing it from memory wouldn't do because you'd think "What is this primitive thing I'm playing?". Back then the experience was brand new.
I chose it because I remember having a ton of fun with it and can't imagine getting into it now (the original game, not the remake).
The dudes asking questions sounds like Gumby lol
They should be played.
Pat is a custom robo fan!!!!!!! YUPPPPPPPPP
Super Mario World.
.
Not because it was life changing, but because I know too much.
.
It would be amazing to play that again for the first time.
.
.
I see your callers are on the back to the future 2 video phone
17:59 Haha, love it.
Lunar or maybe mass effect are the games I could play for the first time again. That was the first times I played games that told a story that moved me as much as books Ive read or movies I watched.
You make a certain Game Boy guild and ill buy that 100%
👍
Pat, expensive retro games should be placed in case protectors. Another question is what do collectors do with all of those loose NES Super Mario Bros. cartridges that are lying around and collecting dust? I have a solution... the finest and best condition loose Super Mario Bros. cartridges should be graded by WATA so as to create another collecting category within graded video games for collecting purposes. If you can't afford a sealed WATA 9.8 graded Super Mario Bros. for the NES that's fine, go after a loose black label Super Mario Bros. game instead in a high grade. It's the next best thing and solves the problem with all of the loose Super Mario Bros. NES cartridges on the market.
I was 17, played dark souls 2. I’m 25 now and would love to wipe my memory of the whole series an play it again
Ian was so quick to recommend killer 7 that I guess I've got to play it.
Most of my retro carts that are loose are just in a box or in original plastic rental case or official Game Boy cartridge cases. I also protect some of my NES games with the sleeves. Im not particular about storage of my retro carts i just keep them in a climate controlled bed room, away from exposure to sun light and water.
I would love to experience Halo for Xbox for the first time again.
Anecdotal PS3 price hike evidence, I sold a certain game just before the first PSN announcement for about £25 which was the going rate based on listings sold. Now, just a few months later, same game is being listed at £75-100.
I'd love to re-experience Oblivion for the first time.
This… this is it. I can’t tell you how many hours I sunk into that game when I first started. It was so mysterious.
All of my games I professionally clean, and then they get stored in these clear boxes. I don't have many of the original boxes anymore, but this is just a cheap added protection, so why not?
Think about the hell that so many Atari and NES carts have gone through over the last 30+ years, and most (many) still work with a bit of care and cleaning.
Still, there is a reason Nintendo provided those dust covers. ;)
The neoprene protectors I put my games in are *ribbed for her pleasure* 😏
Why everyone sound like robot 🤖?
maybe in the book you should point out that emulations for n64 is amazing but some games like mario kart cant emulate well like where the jumbo screen is to see racers is blank in emulation
I'm torn between the first BioShock and Braid as far as a game I would love to experience for the first time again. I think I would have to go with Braid, because as cliche as it is, it was the first time I realized that video games are art.
I do with CD based retro games. Cart based I don't quite care that much. Oh and absolutely for floppy disk based retro games. Along with make back ups for general use.
i wouldn't put it in a plastic container. but someplace safe but able too easily get them too play them.
If you want to, why not? We used them before they were retro and people gave a crap. Referring to the video title.
Phantasy Star 1 through 4 I'd like to forget to play again
I would like to re experience stories like Uncharted, Red Dead, The Last of Us, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid.
I'd place my NES games in protective covers if I could afford them (no current incoming income). For now, they're in a plastic storage bin.
Buying in bulk they’re like 30¢ each
I don’t think Pat understood when Ian said custom robo is literally on the Gamecube
Value, value and more value. If the game is rare or just outright expensive. Sure go crazy they're cheap. Around $1 a peice and can be gotten 10-25 at a time on Amazon.
I’ve never understood the thing about box protectors, isn’t the whole point of the box to protect what’s inside? The whole thing seems kind of silly to me
Oh man, I'd love to be able to play Deus Ex fresh.
"Thats a Bong" - ian
Guys, could you discuss the case of the death of the owner of a big video game collection some time? Greets
cool to hear someone from dundee asking a question. and yip ribbit king is cool but weird
Great choice Ian, I had wanted to play Segagaga when I had my Dreamcast
Thats John Riggs using a voice changer i swear it
The collectable craze has become ridiculous. There're millions copies of these cartridges and people seem to think they are like gold ingots.
You'd be surprised how many people throw away things like that to make space, or because they don't know to clean the pins and they think it's broken.
That's okay ian I thought it was Culdecept too
Good Question about what game would you erase from your memory to experience it new again. I would say Super Metroid, Or maybe Ocarina of time.
👍🏻 for Bloodsport reference.
18:00 😂
You might need an N64 flashcart to play certain games because N64 emulation is far from perfect. Trust me, I have used mupen and Project64 and certain games just won't work.
Wanna make Ian smile: hey u wanna appear in my video game? 😬😬
Wait your making a n64 guide book? Might actually buy this one
Is segagaga the game that was the last Dreamcast game where they knew they were going under so they just gave them free range to do anything they wanted because there was no one saying no
I have those clear box shaped protectors on each cart in my NES collection for a few reasons. Because dust, and because they look better cataloged on my shelves. I also use them on my more _vaaaaaalueable_ games in general. I just think it's good practice and esthetically pleasing.
"The Vaaalue!"
Your using n64 emulation to write a book!? Jeez as if the first two books weren't bad enough.
Hey now...
Damn did these calls come from mars ?
as much as any CD-R should.
That must make you Frank Dux
I do.
Hell Yes
Is it just me or does every caller sound like it speech from zelda twilight princess
protectors are nice cleaning them is better
I use protectors for boxed SNES, N64, Jaguar, and the cardboard Genesis/32x games. I also use them on the longbox Sega CD and Saturn games. I don't see a need to use them for loose carts unless your game room has wood flooring or tile instead of carpet.
I've got a protector for my Earthbound
Lol you look like jackson...Blood sport reference?
short answer, yes. Long answer Yes. Just as long as the plastic doesnt interfere with the label. The label is the thing that needs to be protected, the rest is indestructible
YAY we're nearly at the point in time where we'll lose all the stuff we bought, I love sony so much now :) all of these shitty companies set me free into the world of retro collecting, and I'm never coming back to current gen. At some point things are going all digital, which means I'll lose my stuff and have to pirate it anyway, so whats the point? lol
