    • @tuanld91
      @tuanld91 Před 9 měsíci +62

      "I've explained this quite a few times. We're not the same as Steam. It has a traffic platform where you can launch a individual SKU and use traffic advantages to gain customers. Instead, you need to reduce the user's decision costs, and you can't launch too many SKUs. However, the Windows gaming handheld brand mainly attracts users with hardware products. If there is only a single product form and the number of users cannot be increased, it may only stay in a small circle to maintain a relatively small sales volume. Instead,if we launch various types of products within the company's capabilities, it can reduce the company's risk and acquire more users." - AYANEO's CEO

      This is exactly why I don't buy their products and stick to other companies. Because they feel like shovelwear with how many new slight iterations they are constantly pushing out.
      As well as the active obfuscation of the names. Gpd and OneNote use numbering for each iterations and just change the name depending on form factor.

    When I've seen those trackpads for the first time, I was happy and hopeful too ... until I fully realized the implications of their low placement, which makes them an ergonomic nightmare to play with and therefore not at all suited for gaming, which means, they are only a minor upgrade from the GPD Win 4's optical mouse for Windows navigation.
    So this fact combined with a probably outrages price, makes the GPD Win 4 (which also supports lower refresh rates and has an actual physical keyboard in a much smaller form factor) a much more compelling purchase if you don't mind the smaller screen ... and then there still also is the Steam Deck, which remains unrivaled in terms of pricing, ergonomics, customizability, low TDP performance for 6-8 hours of battery life AND which has screen replacements available to mitigate the advantage of the Kun's better screen.
    I don't see a substantial market for the Kun except from some elitist with too much money to spend ... which is aggravating, because the stupid ergonomic design, which unfortunately is THE deal breaker regarding the Kun's main selling point trying to be an offbrand Deck Pro.
    So in conclusion:
    The King still remains to be beaten.

    • @slickrounder6045
      @slickrounder6045 Před 9 měsíci +2

      "which remains unrivaled in terms of pricing, ergonomics, customizability, low TDP performance for 6-8 hours of battery life" AyaNeo Kun will crush the Steam Deck in terms of battery level since it has 75wh battery. Yes the Steam Deck performs well at sub 10w, but the Kun at 10w will easily match/surpass the Steam Deck at lower wattages, and provide much more battery life. The only advantage Steam Deck has is the Price. Ergonomics you are just speculating on since you have never held or used the Kun, and that will ultimately come down to preference and be a subjective metric. In terms of every quantifiable metric and spec, the Kun eviscerates the Steam Deck.

    • @sulac4ever170
      @sulac4ever170 Před 9 měsíci +6

      @@slickrounder6045The point with the bigger battery you've made is true, but the low TDP is not (there are test out there from DF and others which prove what I wrote).
      Furthermore, the advantage of the bigger battery is probably negated by also the bigger and brighter screen, which again leaves the Kun at a disadvantage ... but this is something, which remains to be seen, because this actually is speculation.
      Also the ergonomic point isn't speculation at all. Did you actually watch the video?! Taki pointed out and even demonstrated this exact thing in his video 🤦‍♂️
      ... so my point stands and your arguments are for the most part nonesense.

      1. It will crush the deck in weight too, at least 900g from what is revealed. People who were complaining about the deck size and weight will just find it worse with this Kun, especially with less grip as shown out by Taki.
      Ergonomics is definitely worse with a thinner grip, and that trackpads positioning you can see how awkwardly Taki is spreading his fingers when trying to reach for the triggers when using the trackpad. 😂
      2. We still need see how good/bad their total power draw is to see how much impact the larger battery does.
      It will definitely be longer but I strongly doubt the increase in battery life is going to be proportional to the larger size compared to the deck.
      Their air plus lineup has a power sucking screen and possibly other less efficient areas as well, despite having a 46wh battery in that one, at the same tdp it end up lower battery life then a steam deck and ROG ally as tested by Digital Foundry.

    • @slickrounder6045
      @slickrounder6045 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@sulac4ever170 I said the Kun at 10w will beat Steam Deck at sub 10w. This has been confirmed by ThePhawx, who found that at 10/11w 7840u start pulling past the Steam Deck. Its only if both are sub 10w where the Steam Deck will edge out the win in performance (Atleast until there are functioning drivers at some point for the 780m. Maybe it will never win at say 7w versus 7w, but there is still room for improvement for it at all wattage levels in terms of Drivers. Meanwhile the Steam Deck has reached its zenith). That's a moot point though since the Kun can just be at 10/11 W and still have much longer battery life than the steam deck at 7w, while comfortably outperforming it. This won't be up for dispute, we are just waiting on tests to confirm exact numbers for the Kun, but we have seen somewhat comparable numbers from another 8'4 inch handheld with the 7840u and a 65wh battery (Drastically larger than the Steam Deck's 40wh, but still smaller than the Kun's 75wh battery) in the Aokzoe A1 Pro which beats the Steam Deck in terms of battery life and performance even if it has go to 10w to nab the performance win.
      The bigger battery advantage is never negated by anything. One can lower the Kun's brightness well below 100% and it will still be brighter than the Steam Deck while being optimal for battery life (somewhere in the 50% to 70% brightness range). Yes we don't have fim numbers yet till we get more testing from Taki and ThePhawx and maybe Retro, but what we do know for a fact is that the Kun has a much brighter display, so even if its brightness is lowered by a fair amount it will still be more than bright enough.
      Ergonomics is subjective in terms of what form factor people will prefer. Taki can point out obvious facts like the trackpad is lower than the Steam Deck and its a farther distance than the Steam Deck's trackpad relative to the joysticks and buttons, but that doesn't necessarily mean its inferior in terms of ergonomics, its just a different form factor that is more suited to people with larger hands. I'll admit for people with tiny/small hands they probably will prefer the Steam Deck if they expect to make decent use of the Trackpads atleast.

      @@samh5886 Breaking News, larger devices with larger screens will weight more.. Who woulda thought.
      No doubt you are right that the Kun won't have near double the battery life of the Deck despite having an 87.5% larger battery. I'd expect it to be closer to 50% more gaming at similar/better performance. That will depend on settings like Brightness and the like though. We will have to wait and see concrete reviews to know exactly, these are just rough estimates based on similar devices like the 8'4 Aokzoe A1 Pro with a 65wh battery and 7840u.

      I don't agree with this being a nice one. It seems like a all around great device, but they unfortunately ruined everything with the horrible placement of the trackpads, which would have made it an actual contender for an offbrand Deck Pro, if they hadn't f'd it up. Without this (its main low-key selling point), it only is another handheld with 7840u and a big screen, which in practice can't be maxed out anyway for actual practical play ... and all of this for an presumably terrifying price.
      Ayaneo should have spotted this and arranged the inputs differently and the fact that they didn't is very unfortunate, aggravating and stupid IMO.

Also the capacitive touch on the joysticks is great for mmo games without an action camera as you can set touching the joystick to right click and control the camera that way. I very much like the bigger screen... respect Aya for trying something like this.
    Alas, the general problem with this device seems to be exactly what attracts people to get the Deck in the first place.
    It's in both the touchpads and the ergonomics of it. While it's interesting that Aya tried replicating the touchpads, it's hard to imagine a 3rd party will be able to do something like Valve's touchpads... it's not just generic touchpads, there's a whole ton of development put into those. There's a reason they are square, clicky, and the way they are - even if some don't like them.
    Ergonomics seems to also always be kind of a problem for manufacturers... or rather, it's the strong suit of big brands that have been working with gaming for a long time. There's a lot of testing, development and prototyping that Valve put into the positioning of each component, and so even if the portable looks a bit awkward, there is a prioritization on real life usage, so you kinda know it'll be comfortable.
    These might be the biggest problem with Chinese manufacturers releasing multiple device in such a short period of time... while it is impressive and attends lots of different demands, it feels a bit like they are throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, iterative development be damned.
    But I could be wrong on those.... in the end, the defining factor for people like me will be price and warranty. If it's too expensive, I just couldn't pay the price without having local support and local warranty. Which the Deck also doesn't have, which is why I'm likely going with the Asus ROG Ally... it started selling recently and officially where I live, so that's what I'm going with.
    I'm just hoping a SteamOS alternative releases for it soon, fully working and compatible. I just don't want to deal with Windows anymore.
    Thanks for the review Taki!

    • @Micromation
      @Micromation Před 9 měsíci

      @@Adam_IB It should look exactly like the OG - the ergonomics and versatility of SD are unmatched so far and by a country mile at that. The only lackluster things about the Deck is abysmal screen (brightness, resolution) and lack of meaningful I/O. It's a travesty that Deck didn't come with at least fully featured USB4 port (ideally should have 2 or 3 total). And Aya is very much afraid of changes because what they did and still do is provide obsolete gamepad design with abysmal software support. Aya should work with Valve to support their devices and integrate compliant control schemes, because there's nothing coming even close to Steam Controller Configurator. No other software in the entire history of PC (or console) gaming ever matched even fraction of that tool's power.

    • @memfault
      @memfault Před 9 měsíci

      @@Adam_IB Not so smart comment. Valve were much more innovative with their Controller and SteamDeck later(that bring this innovations to handheld). Their Valve Index was also innovative. If there would be no SteamDeck, there would be n other copycats, like AyaNeo, Legion GO,Asus ROG Ally, etc.
      And even Lenovo Legion Go was more innovative (with their detachable comntrollers, working as mouse). But I would prefer this AyaNeo more, because it's more suited as SteamDeck replacement, and cheaper that doing all pricey mods(32GB RAM mod, monoblock, DechHD, etc) with better results.

The price will never compete as its a smaller manufacturer and its not readily available. Then theres the talk abojt support and longevity as ayaneo puts out a new oroduct every month. People already complained about the rog ally being 699 let alone almost 2k and weaker gpu. This device will struggle at 1600p. It shouldve been 1080 which is the sweet spot for handheld displays and performance. I do like the build of the kun very much but i jjst cant justify this pricing and hinestly would probably be dropping res to 1080p/720 and scaling might not look as sharp being on a bigger display than both the steam deck and rog ally. sure, releasing it after 3-4 years, the upgrade would definitely be substantial. Having said that, you've gotta a couple more years before rumors start to float around of the Deck 2

      @@gamefun2525but what’s taking Valve so long with the Deck 2? Every PC company nowadays are dropping handhelds like nothing. And these handheld have better performance and specs than the deck. What’s Valve doing? Are they being patient or tryna surprise us with something even crazier soon?

    How many devices is Ayaneo going to make? The Steam Deck is nearly perfect and it's kind of seeming like it will be as close as we get for a while. The price/value ratio cannot be beaten easily

    That display is really beautiful, wish they produced a standalone version, like a small second display or a drawing tablet

    Aya is going the wrong direction with pricing. Even though you didn't say for sure what the price is, I'm sure you're right. I doubt if I'll upgrade until the steam deck pro/2 comes out, as these Chinese companies will never be able to compete in the software/customer service sector of this industry.

    ...what many aren't getting is that the Deck is a tremendous value for performance. You can emulate GC / PS2, and many PS3 titles, etc., as well as your Steam library of games, etc. There's nothing on the market that can touch it (yet) in that space. There's many children that hate on Valve and their product, for no other reason than immature arguments. There are more powerful handhelds out there, but they come with a steep price tag and have no where near the support that the Deck has. End of the day, the Deck wins, hands down...doesn't matter what other companies create that's similar/more powerful.

    One stupid idea I would love for these devices to have is a detachable battery, so you can have a very lightweight device powered by a cable for when you are laying down on a bed.
    When you want to get up you reattach the battery and disconnect the cable :)

    No matter how much processing power they put into these overpriced handheld PC's, none of them can beat the price to performance and console-like ease of use that the steam deck offers.

      Yea a great point. I Iike seeing new handhelds get released but I would never buy them over the deck. I'm not just a valve fan boy, it's steam os and the community support that add so much value to the device. I love awesome specs but I also like the complete package
