      i was beyond skeptic because linux... and valve listing so many of my games as unsupported.
      ever since the OG steam deck released i wanted them to just plop windoze on it, so i could consider buying it.
      but i kept digging deeper and deeper into the state of linux gaming (used to be a big linux fan like 20 years ago that's why gaming on linux sounded like the rantings of a lunatic to me)
      and now that i have an oled version right here in front of me, i couldn't agree more.
      THIS THING HAS NO RIGHT TO BE AS MAGICAL AND AMAZING AS IT IS! xD
      it's not just better than my gaming PC
      IT IS my new gaming PC \o/

    As an Odin Lite owner I told myself that I didn't need the Odin 2... this changed when I was given the opportunity to try and buy one of the 100 Super Fan Odin 2 Base, it took me more than one hour refreshing my browser page but somehow I managed to get one, and somehow, it costed me less than my original Odin Lite... I love my Odin 2, the base model is all you need, the 4 GB virtual ram swap is a game changer for switch emulation, thank you to the community for troubleshooting the problem and for giving a quick and easy workaround, and thank you to AYN for listening to the community releasing an official fix so quickly ... My favorite thing about my SD OLED is the longevity of it. With game streaming improving over time, once the APU is no longer capable of keeping up with the latest AAA games, it will still have a fantastic screen, audio, controls, battery life, and wifi, making it a perfect streaming handheld. I loved my og deck but it was very worth the difference ($200) for me to sell and upgrade.

    3:48 I know exactly what you're talking about here. I've been using the GPD Pocket 3 as my daily work driver (IT tech/eng) for close to two years now. It fits in my chest pocket when I'm on the floor but blows up to a comfy 4 monitor setup at my desk with a basic TB dock. It's a ridiculously versatile pro machine if you can get over the drawbacks...gotta learn how to squint sometimes, learn a scrunched keyboard, and a few other things. Gotta say though, I bought it to double as a mid-powered handheld for gaming as well, but that definitely turned out not to be it's calling...makes the Win Mini look quite appealing though!

      Pocket 3 Owner here too. I initailly plan to using it for work/game but as I got a job as a programmer I thought "I should use this for work!" and it's really great. Because of its small size I can fit it in shoulder bag instead of a laptop backpack, it may not seem much but it ease a lot for daily long public transport commute. One thing that didn't aged well is there's only one usb-c port so Ican't charge the device and connect to monitor out at the same time and taht forced me to use HDMI+Dongle combo. It's been a year now and I'm still loving it, but I didn't use it for gaming anymore....so maybe I should also buy Win Mini?

    Odin 2 to me, is the best all around retro handheld. I put battery life at the top of my priorities, and this one delivers. As for handheld PCs, they're still weak with bad battery life for the price you pay

    • @romeocharliegolf
      @romeocharliegolf Před 2 měsíci +1

      I'm still a bit ambivalent between getting an Odin 2, Steam Deck OLED, or GPD Win 4 (assuming the price is not a problem). I do think having the capability of PS3 and Wii U emulation is better for longevity, but (1) battery life and (2) size are my biggest concerns.
      (1) After watching RGC and other people's videos, Odin 2's battery life is amazing. Even at a very heavy load, it still takes 4h to drain the battery! 10h to do PS2 emulation is scarily good. The charging separation feature at any battery % is also a great idea. I really love x86 flexibility, but like it or not, their battery life is atrocious for a handheld device.
      (2) I tried to imagine playing a Steam Deck in, let's say, a cramped underground or a public bus and my brain just said, 'nope'. Odin 2 and Win 4 (I have a soft spot for PSP and Vita, yes) for me has the perfect size. Win 4 is a tad heavy, but I don't think it's that bad.
      I agree with Taki's criticism of Odin 2, especially since most reviewers didn't mention/think about this. Odin 2 is not a perfect device, its price is a bit high, but I think there's a niche for it. I'll probably get the Pro version since I also play quite a lot of Japanese/Chinese mobile games and 256GB is a perfect size for it.
      ~~Obviously, if Steam announced that they're releasing a Mini-Steam Deck with the same specs and a 50Wh battery... Yeah that might change things a bit.~~

    Great video. Not really a fan of the oversized 'handhelds' so many of those are not for me. My personal favorite was the Powkiddy RGB30 - which fits my needs of pocketable, plays GB, GBA and GBC games which are primarily what I like on a portable. I get the whole wanting a powerful handheld but I would just never use it as when I'm home I would rather play on the XB, docked Switch or PS5 and when I'm out I want super portable and quick pickup/put down games. Again - enjoyed the video!

I was wondering if you could cover Moonlight and Sunshine combo, which is the best and yet open source game streaming apps in one of your future videos. • @huleeyaxerssius7

    The Odin 2, had gotten one of those (the max variant) since i had upgraded from an Retroid Pocket 3+, as it was quite the upgrade & wanted a more powerful android gaming device, something bigger too. For those who'd want the top model, i wouldn't call that a FOMO purchase, nothing wrong with getting the most beefy one if you can afford it. But anyway, certainly is a nice system so far, and i'll be using it for a long while to come. The Odin 2 Super Dock, was a surprise with what features it has since they aren't stated on the site, like having an ethernet jack & an M.2 SSD port on the top, didn't expect to see something like that.
    The controls on it, don't see any problem with them & are fine, though i don't look deeply into that kind of thing as some do. Mobile data features not being in there, that's a non-issue for me, since i just use wifi anyway. So in a situation like mine, it'd be worth getting it since it'd be a big upgrade. Don't have any interest in getting some PC handheld, being a bit pointless since i have my main PC that i'd do any PC games & the like on, and i don't see the big fuss over the steam deck really.
    So yes, while it wouldn't be for everyone & of course, nothing is without flaws, it is the best purpose built android handheld at the moment. Having that kind of power in one is quite good, and not a waste having that hardware in the 2 either (for the max model) worth getting if you didn't already have the previous Odin Pro model. Would keep that otherwise, since most PC's nowadays can emulate PS2 & switch pretty good. But yes, that's just my lengthy take on it, as we all have our opinions on these handhelds, was a good list too.

    • @adam_roman
      @adam_roman Před 4 měsíci +5

      This is basically why I got an Odin 2 Max as well. Love my RP3+ but the slightly larger form factor and much better performance are what I really want. Friends have told me I should've just got a Steam Deck but I like having a more compact device. Plus I rarely want to play PC games outside of the house so I just use remote play when I'm at home and play retro or android stuff outside, occasionally dipping into more modern indie games via Switch emulation.

    Since the addition of the vram feature, there's no need for any more than 8GB of ram for the Odin 2. Literally, the only Switch game unplayable before that update, that would otherwise require the higher ram models, was Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but since the vram update, the base model handles it just as well as the Pro & Max, pending of course, that you don't have a bunch of other processes running in the background & at purely $300, the Odin 2 is a fantastic value.

    Lighter games like Hades & Dead Cells can take full advantage of the 120hz screen, or I can cut the power down for less heat and noise and still hit a solid 60fps.
    And it fits in most of my pockets!

      @@nfriedly the best bargain I can get is limit the framerate to 40fps @120hz. One way to prove the sound driver sucks is to then bump up the framerate to 60fps or higher to hear clipping. If 60Hz truly is the answer then I wish GPD just gave us the Win4 landscape hardware mod which sticks us at 60hz with less fullscreen issues.

    I own both the Odin Pro and the Odin 2 Pro and I thought the remarks on the ergonomics were kind of odd here. The face buttons are slightly smaller though the membranes on the 2 are also more loose which makes them easier to press and slightly less fatiguing on the fingers. I always felt the buttons on the older Retroids and the original Odin were too stiff. They're finally fixed that. The grip on the rear of the Odin 2 is a bit deeper. The analog sticks on the 2 are a massive improvement as they are now Hall sticks and have a greater range of travel as they're not so far recessed into the shell. The speakers on the 2 are now front firing and in a spot where my hands don't easily block them, much like how the Deck's speakers are placed. The addition of an actual BACK button on Odin 2 means I no longer need to swipe at the screen to access the menu in emulators like Dolphin or Mupen. The only ergonomic downgrade I really agree with is that the 2 is heavier. Even so I have zero reason to want to pick up my 1st gen Odin ever again.

    • @Justin-xi6ue
      @Justin-xi6ue Před 4 měsíci +1

      I don’t mind the smaller buttons because the feel at least is very close if not the same as first party controllers, but I think compared to the Loki ergonomic wise it’s just not as comfy. The downside of copying that shell though is that the Odin 2 may end up even bigger. As far as the shoulder buttons go I didn’t realize the Loki has quieter switches. I think that might have actually been better. The bigger hall based analog triggers are super smooth and don’t wiggle anymore like on the original Odin, and the analog sticks are also much smoother feeling as well. You can’t get the same analog feel even if you installed GuliKit hall sensors on the original. But I agree it’s a big improvement from Odin 1 and I was pretty happy to sell mine.

    I wish Valve would release a Steam Deck mini with a 5-6 inch screen and a quiet fan solution. I primarily use my handhelds for gaming in bed, so a smaller form factor with the unbeatable price:performance ratio of a Steam Deck would be fantastic. I stopped using my Steam Deck for an RG505 running Steam Link, if that explains how valuable screen size/low noise is to me.

    I love my Steam Deck OLED. It has nearly everything I always wanted in a handheld. I owned the first GPD Win and I saw the potential for a PC handheld, but there were just too many issues and drawbacks. The SD OLED fixes or significantly improves all of those. It's just such a cool piece of tech in so many different ways.
    Still, there are things that could be improved, of course. I would actually prefer it to be smaller, ideally. And I wish Reshade worked on it in a more straightforward manner. Compatibility with games is quite good overall, but it could still be better. And more performance would always be nice to have.
    I understand, though, that it's a balancing act. And the Steam Deck OLED nails it given the current state of technology and other considerations. I'm very happy with it. I look forward to future developments in this game hardware category.

That old 4.7” iPhone screen with over sized bezels is looking dated now, especially compared with the Odin’s Lite’s 6” 1080p at the same price. Anything 4:3 (retro) displays at just 3.8” so just play it on a cheaper handheld.
