I Switched Back To A Basic Phone- Here Is What Happened.

  • In the past couple of weeks, I decided to put my super modern smartphone in a drawer and switch back to a basic flip phone. One that can't load the web or take a decent picture. The effect of this experiment has shown me that simplifying your life in this way may actually improve it.

      @@shivamurthyv3666 low level drug dealers often use such phones, they call them "burners" as they throw them away within a couple of days/weeks to avoid surveillance from law enforcement. For bigger operations/network they were using a closed loop encrypted system called " Encrochat which provided the user with full encryption chat on a modified Android device with fake desktop, hidden apps and kill switch button that could erase all data stored on the device instantly. Encrochat called them " carbon devices". But a little over a year ago French police and later Interpol cracked Encrochat and now they are decimating criminal networks all over Europe using their chat logs as proof lol. There was also a similar service called Sky ECC which was also cracked by the cops.

    1) eating;
    2) in the bathroom;
    3) beyond 23:00;
    4) until 8:00;
    4) in the streets (apart some occasional waiting room or line);

I feel overwhelmed with upgrades and all the uploads downloads and the instant messaging etc. I prefer the good old days when the phones were smaller and served the purpose of a phone . All I need is the basics but seems like we have a need to use apps and need click agree in order to read any articles. I really do not have a clue what I am agreeing to, but do so for the sake of moving on to read the screen. these things were meant to save time but these a total waste of time and wish we improved or spent time creating better things than apps.

I still want to be able to use things like the camera and the GPS, so I wouldn't want to actually switch for myself, but I'd like to see if I can start refraining from using apps on my phone when I'm at home, kind of like having a "dumbphone." Interesting. I downgraded over a week ago to a simple Nokia phone. I purchased a tablet. Downloaded WhatsApp, messenger etc...to use the net and take to work.
    How have I found it? So far, OK. I know I have a crap phone in my pocket, I look around when walking, read newspapers in the pub or coffee shop. I listen to the radio on the Nokia, I'd thought I'd miss Spotify and my music and podcast though i like the radio, missed it without endless clicking through another podcast that I rarely finished. I read a book on my sofa with a drink. Some things that were ease, music, camera, instant answer, football scores etc...I'm 42yrs and so mobile started when I was 19 and smartphone when I was in y 30s. I don't miss not looking at people when I talk or notice they don't look at me. I close my laptop.

      You can check that from your notebook. If you're on the go, you may waste some time going to a store just to find out it is closed. But this will happen only once every three months. And you'll learn to plan ahead and avoid this from happening. The overall time you gain by not wasting time on a smartphone easily beats the time you spend to plan ahead for a few things every now and then.

    • @FinixFunny
      @FinixFunny Před rokem +1

      Same for me, I like open source software and I have an app called Organic Maps, but basically I had the same problem. But it's just a matter of time; when you get used to plan ahead then you won't notice the difference anymore, on the contrary, you will become a living map XD You will learn lots of street names, shops (that you didn't even notice before) etc. Guaranteed xd

    This world is now living on smartphones. It seems so. We living with smartphone for almost 7-8 years. What it gives to humanity? How much does it contribute in knowledge? How many of us capable of reading books for 6-7 hours? Or even to concentrate for an hour without touching phone !
    We lost our creativity, productivity, productive knowledge, basic skills, memorization capacity and many more basic things that matters to living peaceful life. There wasn't smartphone when we learn physics, mathematics or agriculture.
    I'm deleted Facebook account recently after lockdown. I'm lecturer and having everything shut down in lockdown the use of Facebook and smartphone went at craziest level.
    While I was on work I rarely check mobile, I had my hatches from morning 6 to evening 9. In meantime I study different topics, prepare for next lectures etc.
    Now after quitting social media my attention span wich was reduced to 10 seconds has been recovered to almost an hour lecture.
    I found myself uncomfortable with smartphone. And I searched there's alot people with same thinking. I wonder where did you find moto razer in such good condition. Nokia 2720 isn't launched in India. We don't have good option of basic phone from any company.
    I wonder is this some trade between news media, social media and mobile companies ! Having people's attention is the money today.
    Anyways it's good to see more n more people moving back to basics and realising smartphone or social media isn't something which run world.
    Hopefully at the mid of this century we will again start inventing things practically. We will have discoveries and people will discuss more about farming and living and production instead of being service provider or being in social media marketing.
    I can't put everything I want to say in clear words. Thank you for video.

You can fit both of them in the same pocket as the 2 together are about the size of the average smartphone. This was my 2007 technology setup haha! Its only 6 megapixels, but with a popper zoom lens you can still get decent photos and its super fast to use.

It would take me minutes to find the right name in the list. So I switched to a simple-cheap android phone which enabled many necessary features like call recording, calendar notifications and occasional document scanning/photo. And for everything else I have a better-faster android phone in which I keep data off and only turn it on when I have something of NEED. Working well.

Got it in 2010 for my dad, wasn't used and the battery was still in great shape. If there's 5 g and 4 g, there should still be three g because you can't get to the other two without it. All I wanted was talk and maybe an emergency text and that's IT. I may just go back to a landline & people can just sit and spin, lol.

    I know people that do either this:
    1. use a basic cellphone and carry a non-LTE tablet
    2. downgrade to a basic cellphone and use their smartphone like a tablet or multimedia device
    With a basic cell phone -- only calls and texts, no data. Saves you lots of money.
    A non-LTE tablet or smartphone without a SIM card inside just relies on an Internet connection; so in a way that limits the use to some capacity. Without an Internet connection, a tablet or smartphone can be used for offline stuff, like note taking, music/movies (if you downloaded them locally to the storage) or a camera.

I switched to a flip phone because of my smartphone addiction. It's all about mental health. I no longer get tired of smartphone screens, notification sounds, and unnecessary connections. It's comfortable. Only the really necessary communications will come to your flip phone. There is no inconvenience. I think flip phones should be reevaluated more globally. I hear that young people in America are paying the most attention to flip phones. Thank you for the wonderful video.
