    Your video totally took me from despair to celebration, thought I would have put 4 hrs in this, but was able to understand the mechanics of this Rube Goldberg! Thank you sincerely.

    Thanks. Very helpful detail. Same procedure worked for the front passenger door on a 2014 S60 Volvo. It only required a 6 inch long shaft torx 6pt star. btw, if you hold your handle out while doing the first counter-clockwise operation, then it will lock the handle in the out position, so its retainer clip won't require fishing out. In my case, someone had yanked on the handle, and it was stuck out to start, and so the retainer clip did require fishing out with a hook, as in your video.

    Very clear instruction, great stuff. Had no idea how much plastic they used in door handles !
    The build quality of my 2012 Volvo S60 II T4 makes me appreciate more the tank like doors of my 2003 BMW 316ti
    Cheers.

    I removed the rear passenger side handle on my 2011 Volvo S60 to clean the electrical connection on the keyless entry and I had this issue putting the handle back. After watching your video I used your hook trick to pull the spring into place and then while holding it I tightened the T25 screw back in to hold the spring mechanism, inserting the handle and then again loosening the T25 screw and I finally had the door working properly. Thank You very much.

    Nice 1. I was about to assume it was the standard Ford design lock and handle but having not done anything on those cars I would have struggled without knowing what you have just done. Well done Dave

    Dave, there is an easier procedure. Before you start unwinding the T25 screw, you pull out the handle fully out (untill stop). Keep it out whilst you unscrew the T25 5 full turns. Around the third turn the handle will block in the open position. After the 5th turn, you can remove T25 screwdriver, the trim piece and pull back the handle and slide it out. Fitting back is as easy as removing it, first insert the front and then slide it in at the back. Note that the handle will stay in the open position. Now return the trim piece and screw back the T25 screw. Around the third turn the handle will flip back to closed position, continue screwing in the T25 until it's tight and you're done.
    Also see czcams.com/video/AVH4w22HJXM/video.html to see the inner workings of the door handle mechanism.

    Thinking out loud here Dave. If you were to keep the handle pulled out (I use a tennis ball for the VW ones) and then retract the fixing screw, do you think that you could maybe remove the blank at the back and the handle without having to move the screw again?

    • @Russell_Duncan
      @Russell_Duncan Před 4 lety

      Up the Lagan in a bubble. 😂😂 I think that might translate directly to the Scottish vernacular ‘Up the Clyde on a banana boat’ 🤣

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  Před 4 lety +1

      @@Russell_Duncan im not sure Russell, but i dont see how that would work as soon as you unscrew to release the rear piece, the handle then becomes blanked off so then up Lagan in Bubble

    Good design incorporates intuitive aspects that allow basic mechanisms to be worked on without the need for special training, the guy who designed this is a bad designer and should be sacked! Thanks for the warning Dave.
