  • Volvo has recalled 2011-2017 S60 and V60 models. They will replace these locks free of charge. Go to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your car is on the list or contact your Volvo dealer. If you have already replaced one they may give you a credit for the repacement.

    This Guide is so great! Cannot thank you enough! Did the doorlock exchange in like one hour. The only thing I struggled a bit was getting the window out (one of the push tabs was resisting me). Also this part was not 100% clear in the video.
    All other steps worked perfectly and it was so easy when you know what you re doing. Makes you think if Volvo makes it complicated on purpose....
    Thanks so much again! Greetings from Germany!

Just be aware that some Volvo models like mine have glued on tabs on the window instead of a window with cut outs and that's a pain to get in and out and you have to restraighten the rubber seals after refitting window.

    Thank you... Great job for pretty much showing us what I've been looking for: how to remove that plastic housing that hold the window (and everything else) and what's behind it...
    BUT
    missed showing us (like you said you would 🤔) on replacing the window.... getting those clips back in those window holes)
    except to warn us on how 'fidgety' it may be....... tho you made is sound simple enough "when you 'pop' the window back....
    also
    I am a tad freaked, now that I've actually seen the inside (behind the plastic curtain)
    My issue for dismantling the door is to try to 'hammer' out a bit of a sideswipe dent
    now that looks like there's some more plastic covering the inner part of the skin (with 3 diagonal ribs)
    I'm hoping that some wood over them with maybe enough to return the shape a bit
    any way..

    Hi Todd, i had my volvo C70 painted, and after the paint, I noticed that the RFID for the passenger's door does not function. Meaning, if the doors are locked, and I approach the passenger's door with my key (NFC) and i try to open, it does not respond. It works fine from driver's door, but with Passenger's Door, i have to use the remote to unlock my car. The NFC/RFID function works fine even with trunk. I went back to the body shop and I asked if they've done something that I can perhaps reverse to get this important function working, but I guess they were afraid and they denied doing anything with the lock mechanism. I once took my car to the dealership, they wanted US$350 for it. Now, the dealership has changed. I just turned my car in for service, and I asked them to check this out. From your experience, would you give any hints as to what is causing this?

    • @toddburr
      @toddburr  Před 5 lety +1

      In theory yes, the motor can be changed. However, there are no screws that allow for disassembly of the unit. It has pins that are pressed into place and have to be drilled out. I basically broke it apart to see if the motor was bad and could be replaced. The motor was in working order on this one so the problem was in the electric board.

    • @toddburr
      @toddburr  Před 5 lety

      Marwan, sorry for the delayed response. The book says it is the same procedure but when I looked at the rear door I didn't see the hole for the t25 screwdriver. It is hidden behind the gasket or door seal. I had to pop one of the connectors out in order to get the screwdriver in. The only other difference is there is a 3rd screw that has to be removed in order to get the outer panel off. It is hidden behind a rectangular plastic cover on the panel facing the front of the car.

    • @marwanazzam4160
      @marwanazzam4160 Před 5 lety

      Thanks for getting back to me. I managed to figure it out. Even though you don't have to pop a connector out to access the hole I ended up doing that because it's easier. You have to fish for that screw and having the rubber seal pressing against the screw driver doesn't help. I might have forgotten to put that one panel screw back. Oh well...In any case, for those of you doing the back window, I have some pointers:1- Do get a 4" T25 screw driver. A T25 bit with a driver might (a) fall inside in the process and (b) the driver might be too short or stubby.2- The window height is about 4.625" to access the tab to push and release glass. There is only one tab in the back, not two like the front.3- Window remains in frame rails (does not come out like front) so use duct tape to keep it up. Have duct tape ready to apply before releasing glass.4- There is no cable attached to outer handle like the front, all is inside the mechanism attached to inner panel.5- If handle mechanism comes off inner panel it slides back in place (there are 4 guides) so do not fret.6- The inner panel will require a bit of force and finesse to take out since the lock actuator is snug in the door shell.7- Back door actuator is not held to inner panel by clips but rather by a T25 screw in one side. The other side looks like you insert a peg in the panel into a hole in the actuator but in my case the peg sat outside the hole. Make sure to visually inspect and take note how old actuator sits before removing it.8- The new actuator might come with a rubber shipping insert that would prevent lock from operating MAKE SURE to take it out before reassembling inner panel back in place.In general: Complicated as it may look, it really is simple and well thought of for the most part. Unless you break something it will all assemble and disassemble easily so if something does not work go back and examine it and make sure all is in place.

Other than that, I couldn’t manage to get the window out but in order to replace my speakers and so whatever else you have to do there other that actually replacing the window it self, you can just loosen it and then tape it using any strong tape to the top frame/edge of the door it self, you simply just like hang it over and have the tape taped to each side of the windowglass over the door, hanging. My other 3 doors work perfectly fine but my drivers door doesn’t seem to respond to my touch to unlock it. I’d say it responds maybe once every 10 attempts. Which part of the door controls that? Maybe I can order the part and replace it myself following the steps in this video

    • @toddburr
      @toddburr  Před 4 lety

      sasamykolors It sounds like the sensor in the door handle is going bad or there is a short in the wiring from the handle to the controller. Start with cleaning the backside of the handle where the sensor is. If that doesn’t help you will likely have to replace the sensor in the handle. I’m not certain, but I suspect you have to buy the handle and sensor as one unit.

      Thillai Ambalam i never quite figured it out but I’ve found that over time it just fixed itself. I wouldn’t say completely fixed but it seems to work now more than not, and it just kinda goes off and on. I don’t think it’s something you can do yourself although I’ve found simply getting in the habit of touching the door next to the drivers door would solve the annoyance. I’ve used my back door as the touch unlock before I got to the drivers door and got into the habit of it until the problem kinda resolved itself

    • @toddburr
      @toddburr  Před 5 lety

      You will likely have to take the inner panel out to make sure all of the broken pieces are out of the car. You can release the back cover of the door handle with the t25 screwdriver without actually lifting the existing handle out. Once you get it out of the car it's easy to see how that works. While it's out of the car you will need to loosen that screw back into place, pull the handle out (or where the handle should be) and tighten the screw to lock the handle mechanism. If it isn't locked into place the handle will not lock into position when you try to install it.

    Why would someone do it themselves? It’s recalled, they will fix it for free.

    Well done!
    God damn Volvo Engineers are bad, hahaha!
    Very common fault as well, cant lock the doors as any other car brand without it working, due to non-manual locking mechanism. 600 euro to fix their joke design per door. It will keep me away from the brand for life for sure 😂
