A wine as good as the 2004 Imperial Gran Reserva can't be opened and drunk so quickly, it must be opened at least half an hour or an hour before drinking it (preferably in a decanter), so it can oxygenate, the improvement in flavor is enormous!

I loved how you tied in the topic of the difficulty that men face at keeping up their male friendships as they head into middle age. As someone who used to work for the Movember Foundation, I've seen what a detrimental effect this has on men. Great video, as always. Glad you had a nice trip with Phil!

@@spainrevealed Hi James, a good friend of mine who, just like you lives in another country with his partner who's a local, told me he's been feeling incredibly lonely. He moved to her neighboorhood where she has all her friends/relatives at almost a walking distance but he left his friends/relatives behind back home and as you know, it's quite hard make friends once you've passed 30. He is currently in therapy for it (and some other things). Thank you for highlighting this rather taboo subject.

Five kilometers from Haro is the medieval town of Labastida, with numerous wineries and beautiful stone houses arranged in rural hotels. In addition to numerous restaurants, special mention to Ariño.
Now we we need a video of ¨El Triangulo de Oro", Jerez de la Frontera, San Lúcar de Barrameda y el Puerto de Santa María. And the other wine regions of Spain.

Another great video! Spain is full of surprises. Had never heard of the city of Haro.
It would make for an interesting twist to see Phil bringing you to his favourite place to eat & drink, but mostly eat, in Madrid. Although if it’s not there but elsewhere in Spain even better.

My wife and I are going to Bilbao in June. We looked into Rioja guided tours only to conclude that it's WAY overpriced for what's offered... Your awesome video made us realize that we should simply get on a bus to Haro and spend the day there Bodega Hopping! The town looks lovely. Thanks to you and Phil for having pointed us in the right direction and keeping us entertained in the process!

Haro is amazing. The old town is lovely, too. It was our first trip to Rioja when we went, so I wish we would have spent a bit more time in Haro. Next time!

My wife and I went to CVNE and Bodegas Roda in June, loved both! Next time I go to La Rioja, we will stay in Haro instead of Logrono.

Enjoyed this video very much and the point about the more expensive wines not always better than the less expensive. You probably know this already but the wine 'triangle' of Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas in the Murcia region is worth exploring too...
Haro looks a top place for great wine and 'tasting' an authentic wine town vibe of La Rioja. Really enjoyed the mix of wine knowledge, history and the bromance. One of your best videos yet James! Haro's on my list.

That's not entirely true. Wine has been produced in that area since Roman times. The French introduced in the late of 19th century just some type of strain which was added to those that already existed there previously, nothing more.

I lived in Logroño, La Rioja for 2 years, and you really did justice to Haro and all the wine there! I never tried the $51 glass, nor the Imperial Gran Reserva, but it was so much fun watching you try them Now, I'm really missing La Rioja 😭 It's truly one of the most underrated parts of Spain!🍷Another wonderful video, James!

Two of my favourite wineries in the world are La Rioja Alta and Lopez de Heredia. The 904 is insane. The 890 is mental. López Tondonia Gran Reserva is nuts

Is there an equivalent town like Haro for the Ribera del Duero wine area? Just back from 2 weeks in Spain, we found those wines so much better than Rioja.

Congratulations, if the views go well enough, you can make a series with each wine region, and as Spain has a lot, another way of "reveal Spain". Mediterranean wines, are not so famous (except for cava, not great marketing), but they are great too.

@@manuelromeroarcos8160 Al igual que los franceses son maestros en mezclar vinos ajenos y hacerlos pasar por suyos, hace no muchas décadas el vino valenciano se exportaba a granel a Francia (y Rioja) a mansalva, (primera mercancía de su destacado puerto), pero algunos empezaron a tratarlo en casa para ganar más, y ya no tienen nada que envidiar al tratamiento que se les realiza allá, y poco o nada se exporta a granel ya.

"La producción (de vino y mosto) se ha localizado principalmente en Castilla-La Mancha (54%), Cataluña (9%), Extremadura (8%), Comunidad Valenciana (7%), Castilla y León (5%), La Rioja (5%) y Andalucía (3%)." He viajado bastante, pero sobre todo he leído bastante. Gracias por la invitación. PS: dentro de CLM se encuntra también Almansa con unos vinos nada desdeñables, además de los de Ribera del Duero, que es mi DO favorita.
