MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO 😃
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
You have to visit a Spanish traditional food market next time you’re in Spain. Noisy, busy, full of wonderful smells and overflowing with people - they’re a feast for all the sense. I love my local market (the Mercado de Antón Martín - featured in this video). Ham, cheese, wine, olive oil, saffron, paprika, bread, meat, fruit and vegetables - these places are gastronomic wonderlands. But they’re also fabulous cultural places - every Spanish market has at least a few bars, and they’re always a fun place to hang out for a drink after you’ve finished your shopping.
So here is what I suggest. If you’re living or staying in Spain, give the supermarkets are miss (unless you need canned goods or cleaning products) and for all your fresh produce needs, head to the nearest local market. They’re the best place to stock up your apartment if you’re staying in an AirBnB or simply to grab some delicious stables for a picnic in the park. An important thing to remember is that if you want to try Spain’s incredible wines, hams and cheeses - they’ll be much cheaper in the market than in a tapas bar. And do make the perfect picnic hamper fillers.
In this video I explore the Antón Martín market, which is nearby my office (it’s where I shop after work). I hit the Jamón booth, a fabulous cheese stall, the fruit stand, an olive stand, an offal stand, a place for olive oil, paprika and saffron, as well as a chicken shop and an excellent bakery. Along the way you’ll get tips and tricks for tackling your local market on your own!

Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). If that sounds like your kind of thing, bienvenido!

The only problem I have with your videos is that I always feel hungry afterwards
jejeje, sorry I can't help with that! Well, you could come to Spain!
Any well done video on Spanish food will result on that, generally we eat great here!
Y el problema es, I cannot see raw meat cut off. So I just skip the part when Luis cut off the meat. T_T
But the rest of foods seem so delicious.
lol yes, every time.
Us too ..... we can’t wait until May 🛫🛬😋
MarinM87 Es Neozelandés no Inglés.
@@professorbacteriano Vaya whoopsy, mil perdones...
Love the markets in Spain... their products are really high quality... besides the delicious jamon & cheeses....the fruits they sell are really sweet & have wide variety of spices and chillies ....I really miss spain
You're totally right John! If you miss it so much, come on back!
I'm spanish and I enjoy your videos! You know very well the spanish market culture, so much usefull info for foreign people
Thanks Jimmy!
Que bien hablas español, pareces de aquí!
Gracias Leticia!
Me encanta!
I feel Spanish is the best! The food is so flavoursome! One of the highlights, for me, during my holidays in Spain is going to the markets...
I really think your Devour Tours videos are the best English language videos on Spanish food and culture; I've seen many (a lot of American) videos and non compare to the quality your producing.
There - said it.

I just discovered your videos. I miss spain so much. I'd say it's my favourite country. Why must Australia be so far away? Thank you for reminding me how beautiful Spain is.
Glad you’re enjoying them!!
I’m from Spain but I’ve been in the US for 22 years. I miss the food. I love your videos. Thank you.
Como dato, Spain is a giant in the olive oil world. The country produces almost half of the world’s olive oil, more than three times as much as Italy, Greece or Tunisia. Over 250 million olive trees grow in Spain. Jaen is the largest producer of Olive Oil in Spain and also world-wide. Just the province of Jaen produces more than the second largest producer country, Italy.
Spent a year living in Spain improving my Spanish and watching your videos has brought back great memories! Great videos and I'm now craving some jamón, queso manchego and Ribera del Duero! Hope you do more videos! ¡Saludos desde escocia!
Glad you're enjoying them Matthew!
If you go to spain you must try the fruit and vegetables. When we go abroad Spanish people miss two things ham and vegetables, that's how good and important they are for us. My brother just came from Ireland and God, he missed our food.
Admirable
Gracias Javi!!
Exacto. Muy importante el matiz
Keep selling me on moving to Spain , Mr. Blick, I'm halfway there already.
haha ok!
In Andalucía we usually ask ¿Quien es la última? (or el último if there are males involved)
At the butchers you didn't mention rabbits (conejos) which are always sold with the head still attached. Why? - because without the head, you would find it very difficult to know that it wasn't a cat - they look almost identical once the fur has been removed. How do you tell the difference - a rabbit is a rodent and a cat is a carnivore - look at the teeth!
Sick 🤮🤮🤮
@@phillipsmom6252 what is "sick"?
@@alejandrayalanbowman367 i guess he is a cat lover :-)
I remember going with my mom to Prosperidad market when I was little and it was amazing. After, at the 90's, the big supermarkets came and lots of tradicionals markets dissppeared. Now some of the tradicionals markets are coming back and it is fastastic, the quality is better. I discovered your Chanel yesterday and it is very cool. By the way, the Spanish olive oil is much better than the italian one...sometimes, the italian olive oil is mixed with oil from Morocco, with has no the proper sanitary controls. I wish we export more olive oil to the rest of the world, it is really good. Besitos desde los Madriles
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you discovered the channel! And yes, Spanish oil is amazing, and we are doing better at selling internationally bit by bit.
Thank you for showing Madrid as it is and helping me rediscover my own city and country!
Thank you for watching!!!
That jamon is making me drool, stop it haha. The food in Spain looks amazing.
Great traditional market tips for a British Londoner such as myself intending to move to Spain. In London we are used to having to choose our own fruits and veg.
I don’t usually eat tomatoes , but in Spain there so nice
Totally Martin - tomatoes in Spain are incredible!
so agree, especially if from the markets or grower.also so cheap. British supermarket tomatoes are gross and overpriced
love tomatoes, i can eat them like apples!
Gracias!!
Thanks for Your Vlog!!!!
I Love Spain and everything about it!!
Brings back good memories looking round

No wonder us Puerto Rican’s love pork BECAUSE SPAIN LOVES PORK TOO!
マリーアイコ el cerdo Es la carne más rica . Nada como un cochino asado. 🤤

I like watching your adventures in Spain but I really appreciate you guys adding the day to day vocabulary while you support the small, local businesses
I love your videos guys, your enthusiasm for food is wonderful y el manejo de la cámara muy steady 👍🏼😎 keep it up , I love your channel
It is soooo important to help the little guys. I cannot stress it enough
So cool I love this... very well done. Love your candor and fun with the chefs from around the world. I loved how you focused on the story behind each tapa which as you said really says so much about the place they are from and how it is now reflected in food. Truly interesting and deserves further exploration by someone... You're a very lucky man doing it now .. and in Spain! Looking forward to the next episodes! ... Vamos! (perhaps meet you in Spain this year)
That explains why the shopkeepers were behaving a little iffy when I hand-selected the melocotóns I wanted to consume back in the hotel room (on the same day) after dinner...
*I'm from Singapore; not being able to choose the produce we purchase for our consumption is unheard of! :D
That will be why. And that's why there is an element of trust with your fruit vendor!
I can assure you the shopkeeper knows better than you how to select the product : ). Only where is self service you pick them yourself and it´s not higyenic to touch the product with your bare hands from being who knows.
This really helped us in our trip to Spain
Fantastic - have fun!
Another INFORMATIVE & GREAT VIDIO !!!... THANKS !!!
Gracias Edward!
Both of you (through this channel) are wonderful ambassadors for all things Spain !! It’s a country I love
I thought you were saying ‘James Black’ in your NZ accent, now I see its ‘Blick’ lol. Just discovered your channel and I love it. Hello! I´m an English teacher from Jaén and I feel so proud of having my birthplace mentioned in your videos. I stumbled upon your videos a couple of days ago and I´m mesmerized with the amount of dedication put into these. They are extremely well explained, no wonder they have so many views! They will surely be quite explanatory for many English speakers and you say so many interesting details about everything. I´m glad my country has such a nice ambassador/cicerone in you. I will definitely show your videos to my students. Congratulations and keep up with the good job! Greetings from Jaén
