WHO ARE WE? 🥝
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). If that sounds like your kind of thing, bienvenido!

This channel is simply the 🐐 channel in Spain. No if, ands, or buts. Incredible content and storytelling.
James and Yoli give you a bit of everything, and this is why I am a member and support their efforts. Love this family. They have prepared me for my 2019 trip to mainland Spain and Tenerife.
Incredibly short-sighted of the Instituto de Turismo de España not to hire these two to promote the country. It'd be money well invested.
First, let me start by saying "Hi Yoly! You are GLOWING! We've missed your face around here". I loved this video and seeing hidden parts of Spain. Hope y'all didn't feel sick after that questionable meat!
The search, the passion and overall joy of search was so evident. A truly enjoyable video. Kudos to mom n baby for braving out the hikes, walks and adventure. A memorable episode of true life.
Thank you for showing the parts of Spain so many of us fail to reach.
For the gamers here, in the game The Witcher 3, in the expansion Blood and Wine, Geralt goes to the kingdom of Toussaint, which is a mix between Spain and southern France. In the introduction cinematic he sees a windmill and then notices a knight in armor on a horse, seemly charging into the windmill. Then suddenly a giant comes from behind the windmill and the first combat of the expansion begins.
It's just a shame that probably only a small portion of the players of the game noticed this quixotic detail!
Awesome!
Spaniards definitely noticed the detail. I see you're a man of culture as well. Cheers!
@@nachovazquez290690 aye we did!!
Total Gamer here, and a Witcher for life! I didn't knew the story, before this video. and Toussaint is mainly franch, but I have seen a couple of places in Toussant that gave me more Spanish vibes than Franch so makes sense I see.
another fun fact about The Witcher 3 is that the rest of the game is set in Denmark, nobody seems to have discovered that except for me! it's a bit complicated, but it actually makes sense. it's set in the 1270-1300 they haven't been precise since the first game, but doesn't matter. that was at the time of the Wiking rules, the Wikings was Danish, yeah not Swedish, not Norwegian, but Danish, because Denmark owned almost all of Sweden and Norway and Germany and the British Isles. so, by fact all Wikings were Danish, so when people refer to a Swedish wiking, they probably mean a Swedish ancestor of a wiking located in what is now Sweden. well by the game being set in the 1200-1300 also means that Denmark is a big place, so were exact in Denmark is it set. well, the parts that's no longer Denmark mainly, Denmark is a flat and boring landscape, not like the Witcher, however, Kaer Morhen probably what's Norway today. Velen is this rather flat more boring part, however, still doesn't look like Denmark, I would say, maybe what Germany today. Skelige, for sure the British Isles. it too easy, the northern part even resembles Scotland quite a lot. then there is Oxenfurt which is actually the city were the Danish flag is located multiple times. Nobody noticed!? another clue that it's actually Denmark, and actually Oxenfurt, could resemble Copenhagen, even though Oxenfurt is way prettier in my opinion, but in the way it's a coastal town located in the middle of the other towns, were it serves as a really important trading spot for all people of the northern realms.
Aunque vivo en Valencia, Villanueva de los Infantes es mi pueblo. Me encanta que hayáis estado allí. Un abrazo enorme a los tres!!!
Qué pueblo bonito.
@@miguimau Gracias!
Wonderful video and love how much of "deep Spain" that you show, James! It was great seeing Yoly and Lucia too! Your storytelling keeps getting better and better. I think I need to take that Skillshare class you mentioned before...As always can't wait for the next video!
The lake really got my attention since I love to swim, and especially in natural water. So clear and beautiful. It was required that I read Don Quixote de la Mancha back in school in Panama, so it felt like forced reading then. I really want to read it again as an adult to appreciate it. I was raised with "La Virgen" public rituals, and here in Valencia, we have them too. You did an amazing job filming all of that. James, you may need to start wearing a hat when going outdoors to prevent future Kiwi-prone skin issues. I've had to do that here, even with olive skin.
I just got back from Spain, and on a dutch traveling tv show I saw when I was in Spain they actually showed this as well, so funny you guys were there and they at the same time. I hope it wasn't too crowded for your daughter. 😊
Taking the production quality to the next level on this vid James! Love your travel videos, hope you do them more often.
Gracias amigos. From a Canadian/Spaniard. I love your enthusiasm and how Yoly just smiles knowingly in the background.
Love all your videos, the water in La Mancha looks so clear! Seeing the lesser known parts of Spain is very interesting 🇪🇸!!
My old man is from Campo De Criptana also full of windmills that bring in the tourists. I love everything Manchego and got real pangs of nostalgia watching this. Apart from the off meats at the restaurants. Stick with Migas and Pisto Manchego 👌
Barry from London
Your best video, by a long stretch - that's your sweet spot for sure. Awesome plot, awesome editing, and videography...love it!...brilliant stuff.
Hi James, Yoli and Lucia,
So funny as just before you uploaded this video, my wife and I were talking about watching the Don Quixote film (we've watched a bit of Queen Elizabeth II funeral but we can't cope with watching it all day!) after having a conversation about 'The Don'! This video is a good prelude to exploring the world of La Mancha and Don Quixote.
Gracias
Tony
Now that I’m hooked need more videos. Every 2 weeks isn’t enough!
I have read Don Quixote and watched Don Quixote ballet, the story is very famous in China, actually most of Chinese know Spain form this book. Lucia is so cute, best wishes from china.
This was a GREAT video. So interesting and fun. THANK YOU!
Great video, that area looks great to visit - authentic Spain! The local festivals in Spain are amazing- it's a shame you couldn't stay.
After moving from Portugal to Spain, time to follow you guys.
Holding my breath watching Yoly descend those rocks 😵💫
What a great video - great to see you all out and about in lesser known parts of Spain 😀
We love your videos!!!! We are planning a trip to Spain & your videos have been incredibly helpful!
Thank you!!
Thoroughly enjoyed that! Especially how the stroller became your trusty steed and the driver was Sancho Panza. You made it fun and cleverly true to the theme.
Lucia in the cute little helmet!👶⛑
Thanks for the tips about avoiding dodgy restaurants, James! You wove a cool story around the area with Cervantes. Top marks!
So much to explore in Spain. Thank you for sharing. You guys can find an adventure anywhere you go.
That was awesome and so much fun! Thank you! Your video and editing skills just get better and better. Saludos desde Asturias.
Laguna Blanca is now on my list!!!! Tks guys!!!!
The scene with the procession reminds me of the procession I witnessed in valencina de la concepción in 2005. As an American and lapsed catholic it was really an amazingly powerful experience. You could feel the history in the event. Will be back in Spain in a few weeks with me wife, very excited!! Thanks for your videos!
Amazing video and story 🙂
Love to go and live in Spain next year, a great country on my bucket list. hi from Korea..
Secret Spain is the best, just got back from Madrid & I prefer August when it is empty. Looks like a car rental would be a must to see these locations.
You really do need a car to enjoy it to the full.
I really love your channel and your videos, it makes me so much wanting to travel to spain. And it makes me very hungry for great spanish food (well not the food from this video, but in general). I will be in Madrid for 5 nights in a week, and have thanks to you and your guide so many places I want to eat and discover. Muchas Gracias.
loved the spaghetti western music in the background!
Is it weird that I'm Hispanic American yet I've always wanted to visit Spain? Especially Barcelona because of the Sagrada Familia. It's a very beautiful building with an interesting history. You're channel is awesome dude 👍
Haha i loved the keymaster thing, So typical in little villages
really great video. cool part of Spain with fascinating Don Quixote back story! 10/10
This is an adventure I HAVE to take part in.
Wow, just a fascinating video, you guys inspire us to explore all corners of Spain just like this 😂😂😂
Dude, you're Kiwi in Spain, wear a hat! I'm sure they have cool hats over there.
There's a hat they sell in all the touristy places in Spain called the "The Big Aussie, the Cancer preventing hat". It keeps the sun off your head and neck too and it lets the breeze through. I love mine.
Or at least Sun screen everyday?
another great video! we love spain...muchas gracias!
Don Quixote is still my favorite work of fiction.
I would enjoy traveling there in person. I have checked out those same windmills in VR.
Me encantó el video, gracias por compartir ❤
Loved the video, educational and very interesting 😊.
Really great video! Lots of fun traveling around with you and Yoly and experiencing all of your adventures. Love it!!!
That moment when the girls entered the arena and the boys carried the virgin Maria in gave me goosebumps.
One day I will witness the Semana Santa!
That's so much fun! Great idea!
great vlog -love the history and adventure :)
Such a cool video!
Fantastic so informative thank you
Oh James, how I love to see this video of my home from Sweden, where I live!! Thank you for this!! 💕
Brilliant, processions, bands, singing and party all weekend. The Spain I love.
Another entertaining video 📹. Keep them up!
Like always your videos are super interesting I love when you have a new video and this one was super
Fantastico!
Quite simply one of your best videos ever (and I've watched a few!).
I appreciate that Ian!
For an amazing time in Spain visit El Roció during the Romería.
If you visit El Rocío any other time than during the Romería, it would also be absolutely amazing. Incredible and absolutely unique place any time of year.
interesting place, lots of things to learn about the history of it, i love travel vlog bcos feel like you been there too cos you share it with us.
Wow really interesting place to visit.historic place!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Gracias don Quijote y Doña Dulcinea 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Spectacular video - James is a magnificent host/storyteller.
Thank you!
Oh wow, Yoli is brave to walk down those rocks carrying Lucia. I am not steady on both feet just carrying myself. I need both hands to support my balance. Good job Yoli.
Oh, Lucía is adorable!
Epic!
A question for you. I'm heading to Madrid in a few days and was told even though its going to be hot as hot as our irish summers , in October nobody in Madrid will be wearing summer clothes or shorts. Will we look out of place wearing shorts.
Felicidades y bendiciones.
Born in Madrid and returning to my homeland soon for good!
Your vid is where my family had their outings!
My dad played Man of La Mancha album every weekend when we moved to Texas.
TY for the energy!!
Getting away from Cancun Ted👍
Very nice video, if you explore Spain local party to local party you will always have material for your videos.
This was a fun one. I can't believe I am saying this, but it made me want to reread Don Quixote. I may have to wait a while and attempt it in Spanish, I am sure it is much different than the translated version.
I have to say you have an amazingly amazing Spanish pronunciation. I have been living in English spoken countries the las 25 years and I’m still fighting with my English pronunciation. I’m so jealous…. 😊
7:03 Lucia is the spitting image of her father.
Mi tierra Albacete😍
Time for a stroller camera mount! 😂
those people in the bullring scared me.
I really enjoy your videos & learn a lot from them but I have a Madrid local knowledge question for you. I plan to be in Madrid for “El Classico” on Oct 16, but my wife refuses to sell our first born child to buy nose bleed tickets for the match. What is the best bar in Madrid for a Barca fan to watch the Classico?
I wish I had 30 years to explore Spain. I am lucky to have 10.
I also was curious to know and found the lack of mention in the video a miss. But noticed the t-shirt with the town name in the video.
Yoly , proque no hacéis el viaje a la Alcarria de Cela ?. Jajaja.
Hidalgo is OLD Castilian Spanish it means " hijo de algo" which means que provienes de buena raza pero no tienes un título de nobleza . Cheers!
From Seattle Washington USA!
11:55 These scenes were filmed on a phone, definitely.
I like the baby included in the videos.
But then I am an Hidalgo. My father's great grandfather was first cousin of Serrano Duke de la Torre.
You can Google the Duke and when you find the sepia photograph
That's what I look like, u might find it interesting. Saludos de Seattle Washington USA.
James- what Spanish version of Don Quixote do you recommend?
Fun video! Spent a week in La Mancha 3 years ago and plan on returning to explore more. You’ve given awesome ideas for the next trip! You are a very cute little family and looking forward to your next vlog.
Somebody’s been binging Johnny Harris!
Lucía is becoming the spitting image of her dad. The kiwi genes show.
Pale Kiwi skin 🤣🤣🤣 I can't imagine, being half Polynesian, I go very dark in summer. But our Kiwi summers aren't as friendly anymore.
La Mancha is an intriguing part of Spain and once part of what was known as Old Castile. Today it feels like a kind of interzone between North and South. Once you drive south of Toledo you feel as though you are in the south of Spain but in the interzone before Andalusia. A flat land until you drive through the dramatic Despenaperros Pass into the fantastic region of Jaen in northern Andalusia and its beautiful mountains. I normally enter in the opposite direction when driving north. La Mancha is a large region which encompasses Cuenca to the east of Madrid. It's very much a place to enjoy if you have a few days or a week without worrying about rushing to more desirable locations. Chilling out is the name of the game. Visiting a castle here, a ruin there, the odd bodega and having a pleasant lunch in a small town without any pressure. Extramadura is the same but with far better scenery
The La Mancha authorities milk Don Quixote for all he's worth in order to attract tourists to these remote areas which are witnessing population decline. I love the interior of Spain though. Obviously, it's the home of Manchego cheese and bulk wine but many fine wines are coming out of the region today as well. Interestingly, the windmills which so alarmed Don Quixote and seem so 'Spanish' were introduced to Spain from the Netherlands during Cervantes' own lifetime and almost vanished by the middle of the seventeenth century. Even the famous ones at Consuegra were in ruins a few decades ago. Populating the interior of Spain has always been historically challenging for Spain and you find yourself driving for miles on empty roads until you find a small oasis of a village or small town. It's well worth getting off the main roads for a more enjoyable experience. You really do need a car to experience the region to the full.
You guys could use a baby wrap or sling, zyou know a long piece of cloth to wrap the baby on you!!!
Did you complain about the bad meal!
..sometimes it's easier just to say nothing. Then wash the "mugged off" feeling away with a few cold beers in the Taverna down the road.
Primero
i did see Don Quixote last time 2 years ago in Morelia Mexico ...hehehe i have proof...hehehe just saying
Question: What are the differences between Spanish vs French culture?
That the French culture doesn't stop praising herself and the Spanish one is always downplaying the importance of their collective culture
🇪🇦❌🇪🇦
What a shame to get bad food or food you do not feel comfortable consuming. Once I get a bad meal, I cannot stay and eat any of their other dishes. You might have gotten food poisoning.
Be careful with the skin. Now you need a good hat. I don’t know if you mentioned it but one of the results of Brexit is that UK residents went home & their doctors are seeing higher incidents of skin diseases.

We are not Arabs, but under Arab colonialism since French colonialism handed him the keys to power in the middle of the twentieth century. We are the indigenous Amazigh people of North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia Libya and others country) suffer from racism and identity theft, which is embodied in the repressive Arabization practiced by the ruling Arab dictatorial regimes. Amazigh is the historical identity of North Africa, but the Arab dictatorial regimes are working to make it outside the framework of everything that is happening in this region by coercive Arabization. The abuse of power and the employment of islamique religion. What creates a soil unsuitable for democracy and coexistence between peoples to confront human problems such as the environment and poverty . Media and educational incitement to consider Arabism and Islam as the and sublime identity imposed by law, creates an identity crisis that fuels ethnic and religious extremism and produces, as the world is experiencing, thousands of terrorists who strike inside and outside the borders, not to mention the death of thousands of immigrants fleeing poverty and injustice. We call on the democratic and free world to dig into the true history of North Africa and not to be tempted by Arab propaganda. To stop calling our countries the Arab world or the Arab Maghreb, the racist phrase that Kadhafi made in 1998.The Arab regimes of North Africa has reached the point of banning Amazigh personal names and they do everything in their power to obstruct the Amazigh language from taking its place in state institutions, in addition to dissolving Amazigh parties and suppressing Amazigh militants.Associations and jurists interested in the Amazigh issue have what they present as evidence to consider the actions of Arab nationalists in North Africa amounting to war crimes against humanity.
yeah well not so secret now, why the reveal, now these special places will be overrun with your readers. Shame.
