  • This is the 2nd Christian Cassette I got when I became a Christian in 1975. The first was 2nd Chapter of Acts which a friend, Neil Rawlinson, gave me. Used to see all the great Christian bands at Calvary Chapel and Melodyland.

    I was there for the opening night of the new Calvary Chapel building. Randy Stonehill and his band played. Pastor Romaine gave the message. About 150 people came to the front for prayer, healing, and to accept Jesus as their personal saviour and Lord. It was the only time, so far, that I personally saw the shekinah glory of God in a physical building. That was 50 years ago and I still don't have the words to describe it, but I know Who I saw that night. I can close my eyes and see it still. Praise God.

    My wife was saved in 1970 when she was still in High School. After she graduated she move right down the street from Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa into a neighborhood nicknamed Gospel Gulch, because so many Christians that went to Calvary Chapel lived in that neighborhood. She also lead worship after the weekend concerts for what was called 'The Afterglow', where people who had accepted the Lord at the concert went to be ministered and prayed for afterward. In 1970 my brother lived at a Calvary's house called, 'The Jesus House', and then he moved up to a Shiloh house in Dexter, Oregon nicknamed, The Land, where they trained Pastors and sent them all over the U.S In 1977 I lived in a huge Dormitory right up the street from the University of Oregon on University Ave. It was basically a Christian Commune with about 30 other Christians, and we all worked at different jobs during the week and all our earnings went to pay our room and board and food, etc. I and about 10 other guys worked for Shiloh Forestry, and we had clients like Georgia Pacific and Warehouser Logging companies. It was hard work, but a blast being out in the scenic wilderness and wildlife. We did lots of stuff like Thinning, Tree Planting, making fire-Roads (one guy with a chainsaw and like 10 guys following behind him with hoes clearing and making fire breaks). At night we'd all take turns making dinner, or doing the dishes, but also playing Fooseball, and just having a great time with everyone. Sometimes we'd go down to the Graveyard down the street and pray too. Lol.from

    My Grandma introduced me to Love Song in the early '70's. It's regrettable that they only made a couple of albums. As far as I'm concerned, they are irreplaceable as pioneers in Contemporary Christian Music. Their music made an impact on me back then, and it still does today. :-)

  • @perrythomasmusic3709
    @perrythomasmusic3709 Před 2 lety +53

    I played in a group called, ONE SPIRIT and though we wrote a lot of our own songs, we also covered all of Love Song's songs, which was a task, to say the least. I play lead guitar and sing, so I had to learn all of Bob Wall's guitar parts. These guys were the best of the best, especially in their time. We were fortunate to be commonly mistaken for Love Song, because we actually sounded just like them and our lead vocalist sounded exactly like Chuck Girard, so we were very fortunate. On top of that, it was probably the most magnificent time in my life and the Jesus Movement was exactly that. It was an amazing time to be alive.

    • @fenderbassfan

      Except for Worship bands, the Christian Ministry Bands I've been in have always done only originals, but I've been thinking for a long time it would be so great to start a Ministry Band and play a lot of the old Jesus People songs. Daniel Amos, The Way, Mustard Seed Faith, Love Song of course, but like you said it would take a ton of work. It took me 3 months just to figure out 7 minutes of Berry Oakey's Bass part in The Allman Bros. , Mountain Jam. It's on this channel, but I love figuring out songs.

    • @fenderbassfan
      @fenderbassfan  Před rokem +2

      If you look at my videos on this Channel you'll find a bunch of songs by our Band called, 'Glorybeat'. It was all originals only. We had a great Ministry in the early 80's playing at Prisons, even Chino State Prisons, Outdoor Parks where we'd just setup and start playing without permission and lots of people who come to watch us play our great Ministry songs and give Alter Calls afterwards, Juvenile Halls, Military Brigs like Camp Penelton, Veterans Hospital, and old folks homes, as well as other churches. I also played in a Hard Rock Christian band afterwards. I think it's on my Channel too.

    • @perrythomasmusic3709
      @perrythomasmusic3709 Před rokem +1

      @@fenderbassfan I will go have a look and listen. Yes, I knew most of those groups and we played quite a few of their songs. We did a lot of our on originals too. We probably played about 50% originals and the rest covers. We found, especially during that time, that people really loved Love Song, Daniel Amos, Larry Norman, Mike Johnson, Hope of Glory, and a few more. I especially enjoyed playing Daniel Amos stuff back then, like Losers and Winners, Skeptic Song, Hounds of Heaven, etc.

    Every weekend, a bunch of my friends and I would load up into my buddy Steve’s Buick and head to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to hear the most amazing Christian music before the music industry turned that music scene into the money making machine it is today. Love Song, Wing and A Prayer, Sweet Comfort, The Road Home, In His Name/Aslan, and so many more making great music. Now, we get the same group of songs by a small number of artists on the Fish being played in an endless loop. Would it really hurt to play some of the music that led many people to the Lord once in a while instead of this barrage of label controlled artists? I don’t blame the musicians but the Christian music industry is no better than the secular one. Thank goodness people can now record and distribute on their own from home.

We went to a couple of Jesus People reunions in the late 80's and early 90's The first was at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa and the 2nd was much bigger and they had it at what is now Honda Center. I so agree. Me being a Bass player made me, unsaved and constantly stoned, more open to accept an invitation to hear a Rock Band at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mess in 1975 and the message afterward at the Afterglow where a seed was planted and I became a Christian a few months later. Funny. It turned out the girl married 13 years later led worship back then at all the afterglow.
