The first 2 minutes of MAG speaking is something a LOT of fan should take in as the truth about building a winning team 👌🙌
Based on Habs management's vision, Zegras is of no interest. We are very fortunate to be able to view Marc Antione & Arpon's podcasts as these two are the best!
In their own mind they are the best
MAG s 100% right and so refreshing to hear , this is a combination of hockey knowledge , common sense and understanding the draw to skill, like it’s magic
really liked godins point on individual skills versus talent
I watched Necas the whole series and to me he was one of their best players! He was a beast! 9 points in 11 games! Skating , scoring, net front presence . You sure you watched the same guy lol?
how many actual games of Zegras have you watched
i would give over/under at 1,5 and would take the under
Marc-Antoine makes a good point re: Zegras.
Great podcast, Arpon! So great that you could invite Senator Ted Cruz to talk about the Habs :)
An absolute, 1000% no to Dubois. I don't care if they want to give him to us with no return I'd still say no. Dubois is a cancer and will ruin any team he's on. Why on earth do people still keep bringing him up like he's some kind of prize.
Wonder if Calgary would give up something sweet for the 5th for the 9th to bring home Tig
Please please don't! Neither of them!
Agreed ...
But [NO MORE] Dennis Savard like [BAD TRADES] please? Thanks
PLD at 35.5% retained + 2024 1st
for Anderson + Dvorak + 2024 1st (Jets)
Dude no lol that’s still $5M on our books.
I feel like zegras differs from Drouin in terms of him enjoying the media attention and may work well in a media heavy environment like the canadiens. Kind of like how PK did
Jets 1st + Barron for Zegras. Big maximum! If Anaheim doesn't think it's enough... oh well move on!
*** Trade proposal ***
Toronto & Montreal
Toronto:
Mitch Marner (27y - RW) to Mtl
Montreal:
Josh Anderson (30y - RW), Christian Dvorak (28y - C), Justin Barron (22y - RD) to Toronto
Is justin barron any good, ive never watched him play. But the trade sounds on the low side, id bet there are teams that would pay more for marner.
@@brandonhall9959 Good question!
Barron was a first round pick, a good prospect RD with very good offense but still needs to work on his defense.
Marner has only 1 year left on his contract and is not a guarantee to be re-signed by the Leafs.
Anderson has 2 more years left on his contract and Dvorak a good two-way center, has 1 year left.
Anderson, Dvorak and Barron all fill Toronto's needs.
Win/win on both sides.
@@claudelemay3912 good point about marners contract, id figure he gets traded and signed to max his value, and i know for a fact there are teams willing to pay. Interesting about barron, i vaguely recall seeing him in a game but i couldnt remember too much. His stats are ok for the team he's on. I think the leafs would want someone vetter defensively though. Take it from me a leafs fan, we've lost alot in the playoffs the lesson was we werent tough enough in previous years and it seems thats how they are trading and signing. Love josh anderson when he makes the playoffs though.
You never know it could happen
Zegras may turn out to be another skilled guy like Marner who don't perform in the playoff.
based on what? his most recent playoff performance?
ZEGRAS FOR THE SECOND ROUND PICK.... HE AND CAUFEILD ARE INVISIBLE ON THE LARGE ERUOPEAN ICE SURFACE.
Caufeild certainly is
@@ivantot506 Time to trade him while most people think he is high value. Trade him for number 2 pick ...
We need guys like byfeild. Tough and can score. I want teams to cringe when they come to the bell centre. Big and tough forwards around a few skilled guys. Personally id draft and stick to the plan. But personally Zegras great talent but he doesnt look like he fits in the montreal culture.
Would you trade both first rounders for marner? (Assuming Toronto would do it)
lol
Absolutely not.
No way in hell
You guys are talking about this like as if this is a real situation where Verbeek asked Montreal for a 5th pick for Zegras. Spoiler: He Didn't.
No way Habs were in on PLD. That's just internet BS hearsay. People love to spread rumors but Kent Hughes never mentioned that Habs were interested in him. As for Zegras, same thing. I doubt very much Habs will try to acquire Zegras. He doesn't fit the mold of player/ character Montreal is looking for. Could be wrong but I doubt you'll see Zegras in sa Habs uni. More internet hearsay.
No to Zegras we want more Beck's
Habs were never interested in PLD. 😅
If your gonna trade your 5th you better be getting a Cutter Gauthier not a Jonathan Drouin or Zegras
Get em boys. 2 really overvalued players for nothing close
I would trade the 5th for Zegras in a heartbeat. He would help us now too. A draft pick may not help us for years if at all. Zegras is proven to be good.
No but would trade Newhook ot Matheson for Trevor
I say Zegras is a definite NO-GO for the Habs ... He simply doesn't fit ! He's not part of the culture, which in my opinion is paramount, especially with regard to Le Canadien. This reality applies not only to Zegras, but to Dubois, and I'm assuming a recognized potential prospect such as Trevor Connelly. The Habs have always been about "class", humility as in non-arrogance, but mostly about working as a team !!
Zegras is a flash and doesnt have a BIG HEART as for PLD ... stay away from that guy ... he is no good OVERRATED HEARTLESS ... HABS please dont make the same mistakes you keep doing for decades PLZ . Keep building around your young draft and soon you will be great again!!!!!
A definite NO! If you want to trade with the Ducks, get Mactavish, not Zegras. Mactavish will be a good playoff type player. Zegras will not be effective in the playoffs when the going gets tough!
I did not want PLD last year. I do not want Zegras this year. I hope the Habs will stick to the process.
Who do you want?
@@elomellow1623 If Hughes is looking for a centre, I want a two way guy that is strong on faceoffs and tough enough for playoffs runs. Zegras does not fit that description.
@@LudwigBeefoven But who would you put in that category? Don't you think a 23 years old player could become that? We currently have this player you described in Nick Suzuki. But he's worth far more than Zegras at the moment.
Nobody's trading away a Nick Suzuki :P
@@elomellow1623 I would prefer for the Habs to build through the draft than through trading or UFAs. In a couple years, the Habs will need to retain their salary cap for new contracts for Guhle, Hutson, etc... To chase UFAs or trades right now would be a way to try to speed up the rebuild. Since Trevor Timmins is no longer the Head Scout, I trust that they can pick good players through the draft instead of chasing established players.
The 5th overall pick could very realistically end up equal or superior in value to a healthy 60 point producing Zegras. Mr.Zegras wasn’t producing nor was healthy last season, the Ducks are in no position to ask for his full potential market value right now.
That being said, id trade for him if the offer is reasonable, i believe that he is worth every penny under his current contract unlike Gallagher and Anderson which are his closest comparables in MTL. Hell if the Ducks really wanted the 5th they would just have to take on one of these two big ugly veteran contracts and maybe a B prospect defenseman … for Zegras.
That's a great idea to get rid of Anderson. I'd much rather keep Gallagher, because at least he's producing something. But, 5th overall for Zegras right now, would be asking for a lot.
Cap space is worth quite a lot nowadays, ideally id keep the 5th too, but getting rid of the terrible contracts we still have is a priority.
Gallagher and Anderson together are 12 million on the cap, the Canadiens could get a good 2nd goaler and a complete middle 6 line using that cap or 1 superstar, but oh well.
The Habs weren't in on PLD. The internet was in on PLD. No fifth for zegras? Zegras is characterless, so far. If you trade for him give up someone equally chaacterless, Maybe Mailloux?
😂😂😂 Mailloux is future top pair D!
@@jabronirigatoni4648 Even So, but character-less.
@@biffstrong1079 whatever Karen 😂😂
@@biffstrong1079 What do you even mean by "Characterless"? Can you define it? Because this seems to be really over the top.
Requiring players to speak two languages will restrict access to many talented individuals. Sometimes these language requirements from Habs fans sound super ridiculous, despite the intelligent points they make otherwise. If everyone on the Leafs only spoke Kaixana but won a Stanley Cup, I could care less.
neither one PLD or Zegras $$$$$$$$$$ to much money Zegras might not be the type of player Habs needs for creating the culture in Mtl.Habs need to size up with talented players also.
talent is fine but so does sizeing up is important.
Anaheim is not trading Zegras. How does his name keep coming up out of every single player the ducks have, it's always just his name. So dumb.
5th for Zegras is just an overpayment.
Zegras abd Caufields sucked in World hockey champ games.
I will give no more than late 2nd round for Zegras.
I would trade the 5th for Byfield…
Dude the 5th pick will be either better or equal to Byfield. Zeev Bium, Lindstrom (if available), levshunov, Iginla, Eiserman….yeah no.
@@m4t67u yeah, maybe in 4 years…so now you don’t have to wait…all you’re losing is the elc….
@@TonyL349 that’s true but if a talent is really good, it will be worth the wait.
Zegras isn't worth the risk
Don’t touch neither
Also PLD has proven to be a terrible player and ALLEGEDLY is a cancer in the locker room (Jets players have said hes a cancer). Im a Leafs fan and therefore hate the habs but I want the Habs to get better to make the Leafs Habs rivalry mean something again.
Why? So we can bounce you in the first round too? :o
@@elomellow1623 lol touche.
NOOOOOO
I would never trade the 5th for Zegras, but you do need "skilled" players to eventually reach the playoffs. They're the kind of players who can win you games if they're playing well. It's silly that a team with garbage offense snobs players who could have a positive impact on the total of goals scored in a season. It's so easy to bring down players. And in Montreal, it seems to be one of our specialty because we're so insecure since Jonathan Drouin.
Wouldn't trade WPG 1st for Zegras. Way overrated
The Winnipeg 1st is in the 27th overall pick. In the old days that would have been a 2nd rounder. I would trade that pick for Zegras in a New York minute. Zegras is a legitimate star player. The odds of that 27th pick turning into a player who is even close to as good as Zegras is so small it isn't worth pondering. The most probable outcome is that the player selected at 27th never plays an NHL game. The next highest scenario is that the player has a short, unremarkable NHL career. I wouldn't trade the 5th overall pick for him but the 27th? Where do I sign?
@@PatrickQuintin its the 24th pick but i get your point. Zegras has been a me first player and we don't need that here. I dont care if he's friends with Caufield. 0 jam in his game and self centered.
@@PatrickQuintin I agree. It would take a little more but the 24th-27th Winn pick I would send it to Ana
Zegras doesn't have the work ethic the rest of the team have. He wouldn't fit in the room. We don't need an entitled player. Pass.
No I would not trade for him
Absolutely not on zegras.
No
Don't want an immature fancy pants.
What's up with these Montreal fans have this mock trade with mid to low value going back for Zegras lol get out of here lol
we don,t want zegras
No, and no.
No!! Enough. He's soft and injury prone.
They can have Dubois for a salary dump and two lottery protected picks...
Zegras for #5 = NO... NO... NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Marc-Antoine makes a good point re: Zegras.
