Florentino Perez has claimed that Real Madrid will stand idle during the summer transfer window, with club finances impacted by Covid-19. That would be to break the habits of an era, though, so what options are available to frugal-minded Real and how might they still strengthen?

Real need a Casemiro substitute, there is no natural holding midfielder apart from him in the squad and he played the most minutes last season out of any Real player. Someone like Mikel Merino could be good but expensive but players from relegated clubs like Marc Roca and Tonali could come by for cut prices. What's worrying is that Real probably won't sign anyone for the position until they can get Camavinga.
Something else to consider is that if Zidane doesn't like the player they won't get any regular game time, see Ceballos and Llorente.

Havertz makes no sense as they already have reiner who similar in every sense. As seen from the previous season despite winning la liga they require someone to score the goals and I still believe they don't need to buy anyone you suggested as they won't be an upgrade from either benzema or the youngsters they already have(jovic, rodrygo). If they are signing a forward it needs to be a world-class proven goalscorer.
Pau torres would be a great long term replacement but I'm not willing to give up on militao this early. As of backup i'm pretty sure nacho is more than enough.

I'm surprised that Tifo Football recommends Pau Torres to be the centre-back upgrade, while Zidane himself has stated explicitly that Dayot Upamecano is Real Madrid's no 1 target for Sergio Ramos' backup, and eventually, replacement. Sergio Ramos also rates Dayot Upamecano higher than Pau Torres to be his eventual successor. Upamecano has all the attributes that Ramos has; strong and aggressive defending, elite passer of the ball, supreme technical skills, strong and solid in aerial duels, and superior tactical awareness, intelligence and positioning. Maybe Real will make a move to bring Upamecano to the Bernabeu in summer 2021, since his 50 million euro release clause will be activated at that time, and that price for Upamecano is quite reasonable, given the current trend in transfer market.

  • @yoprashik154

A good backup Defensive Midfielder is a need of the hour for Real. What is needed the most is the heir to Sergio Ramos. Yes, he still possibly the best centre back but they really have to look for someone who has the same presence & leadership quality as him. I think De Ligt would be the best option because he has good leadership qualities and great presence & still has so many years to grow as a player.

Leipzig Upamacano would be great replacement for Varane and for a striker I don't think at the moment anyone could replace benzema since he plays many roles in the final third so they should loan jovic and find a classical 9 to add more choice and back up the attack Alexander Isak would be a choice

I belive you missed the DM position, Ceballos could never replace Casemiro in the same formation, Real needs a moderate or guniunly good CDM (Mark Roca, Mikel Moreno, Gabriel from Benfica) just to cover up the pitch and relife Casemiro from overworking the whole season.
About Jovic? I belive that he needs another chance next season, he has been unlucky + clumsy and arrogent last year, he thought that he was ready and a world class player when he's just a youngester who needs to set a foot in the team first and try to understand how things works in big clubs, I would let him stay for another year with a guarenteed more play time until Real Madrid sign Mbappe eventually.
The centerback option is really a need, Varane has his ups and downs, Militao is still working on himself, Ramos had a really great season (which I think will be the last great one for him due to his age), same for the CDM position I think Yeray would be enough for a year or two.

I think the only position Real need a signing is in the defensive midfield area. May be a centre back if nacho leaves. Other than that I don't see the need for any new signings. Odegaard will bring much needed dynamism, youth, pace and creativity to the middle of the park along with Valverde who is full of energy, pace and running. Vinicius and Rodrygo will have more experience and I think they will have better seasons both goal and assists wise next season. With full pre season and match fitness I believe Hazard too will be near or near about his best. I think Jovic deserves another season. He was excellent at Eintracht and even last season we saw glimses of his finishing and link up play, with more minutes I think he will do a far better job next season. Militao looks a solid centre back and Mendy is already among the best left backs and has cemented his place in first team for me. Bale and James must be moved on anyhow and so too Mariano. Asensio has been like a new signing since the restart and he has looked fresh, energetic, dynamic and almost like the Asensio we all believe he can be. Lunin too was good in his loan spell at Oviedo. Ceballos too will return. With experienced serial winners Sergio Ramos, Kross, Modric, Casemiro, Varane, Benzema, Marcelo, Courtois, Isco, Carvajal in the team and the young players in the books of Madrid I think Real Madrid have a pretty balanced squad. A defensive midfielder is the only position we need a cover I guess.
