EFFECTIVELY Find Fall Walleyes Using Side Imaging and MEGA 360

  • Today we are back with another fall walleye fishing video and after a busy week in northern Minnesota I figured we should make a video showcasing the process I use to find fish and then target them on many of the large shallow flats in which walleyes use this time of year. This video features a details walk through of side imaging on the Humminbird and how I break down what I see. Fall walleyes bites are in full swing and the shallow water jig bite is happening everywhere. Thanks for watching!

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Tom after being a walleye guide 42 years on the Columbia River if I have learned anything it's people watch to learn and they don't all see my shows or read the hundreds of articles I've done. Reading the comments alot of these guys are very knowledgeable and watch to maybe pick up a small tip that maybe benefit someday. So they really don't need you or your video's but there are many that do and don't have the electronics we have or understand them fact most my guys just use sonar. So don't bite the hand that feeds you and think about how many people fish like us not many. This video is your best work yet shows it all. Good wrk.

This video probably felt a little remedial to you, but honestly this was very helpful to be able to watch “the process” unfold in real time. I’ve been holding off on upgrading to side imaging for a long time, but this video just proves how efficient it makes you on the water. You would literally have to drive through weeds to have a shot at marking those with 2D, and no doubt walleye would have scattered.

THANKS TOM AND CHRISTOPHER. GREAT VIDEO. I FISH A VERY CLEAR LAKE IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN AND THEREFORE A LOT OF WEED GROWTH. BY MID SUMMER THERE'S A FOOT
OF WEEDS OUT TO 18 FEET AND FURTHER. VERY LITTLE HARD CLEAN BOTTOM SO IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE FISH ON THE BOTTOM. SIDE IMAGING HAS BEEN GREAT FOR SHOWING ME STRUCTURE, ESPECIALLY WEED EDGES. THEN I GO IN WITH DOWN IMAGING AND 2D SONAR TO PICK OUT FISH. I CAN PICK OUT WALLEYE WITH SI IN THE EARLY SEASON BEFORE THE WEEDS GET GOING. I THINK THERE'S LIMITS TO ALL THESE TOOLS DEPENDING ON THE LAKE YOU FISH.

Wow! Awesome video. I think we all have wanted you to do something like this showing how you break down a spot. I was really hoping you would show your gps and how you use it to go back to a waypoint and where you would spotlock. I don’t have 360 so I generally just try to spotlock 30 feet or so upwind of my waypoints but if I struggle to get bit I am constantly 2nd guessing if I’m in the right spot or did the fish move or are they just not interested in my presentation. Saving up for a 360 but it’s a big expense and I’m sure a lot of people will never have it. Thanks Christopher! And Tom, you legit make the best walleye fishing videos on CZcams. Period!

Hey Tom, I have been watching your videos for years and I love them. Have a cabin in the Hayward lakes area, so I was drawn to you for that reason. I would venture to say most of us do not get the time on the water that we would like to, so we are continually trying to find out how to use our electronics more effectively. I bought my stuff based on what you use. I always love it when you get down and dirty with precisely what you’re looking for and what you’re looking at. Love screen shots and explanations. I do not watch your videos to get pumped for a trip, I watch them to learn things to make me a better fisherman. You have always delivered all of that. Loved the leech lake videos, anxious to go. I will not thank Christopher, but I will say there a lot of puffers out there catching fish on videos that are meaningless to me because they don’t explain precisely what they’re doing or why. Keep it up, Teach!

Thanks Tom, I really appreciate the review of side imaging. I have a lowrance setup (only because it came with my used boat purchase). But it does have side imaging. Today, while fishing, I did see rocks on it...and a few other bits of structure. It's an older unit - it certainly doesn't show the weeds like yours, but I can see weeds. The fish pods are the hardest to discern, I'm still not confident in what I'm seeing. But, in the end, it's quite helpful to have you re-educate us on what to look for. Your videos always get me excited to try again (even after a day of bad fishing).

Thank you Tom, for taking the time to address some of the remarks which I'm sure you get overloaded with. I appreciate what remarks Christopher made about the last few videos. One thing which still draws my attention is trying to use this info on Canadian Shield lakes. I mean a lake like Kipawa, where there are hardly any weedlines at all.You have solid rock shoreline, some steep drop offs right from shore, not the traditional long sloping points. Also, you have a devil of a job finding a cluster of weeds. Only choice we have is to try and locate baitfish and follow them. Lake Master and Navionics sure assist a little but only to find shallower water. Also Quebec has a rule, NO MINNOWS at all.Worms, leeches, and trolling cranks or spinners.

Hello Tom. You have helped me so much. This will be my very first comment. You have me laughing so hard. Thank you Chris lol It really is a great video. I'm going to the lake today and side imaging the lake. I want to truly thank you for all the help. Dave Ose Sr.

Thanks for all you do Tom, I faithfully watch your channel even though I strictly fish for bass. There’s always something to learn here and I love it!
Who knows, maybe I will target walleye someday…💁🏻‍♂️

Great job again Tom! I honestly got bored watching you catch walleye all the time but I love the electronics tips and tutorials. I do have a difficult time telling a fish shadow from woody debris. Probably because on my home lakes the walleye are too small to show up. But I'm a master at seeing the crappie. :) I do need to spend more time driving around looking for those weeds and practicing the process when I'm up at Hayward.
