When it comes to bass fishing, one of the best pieces of technology an angler can learn to master is Side Imaging. It will help you to located fish extremely well and cover a ton of water. In this video I will go through everything that I know about side imaging as well as show you some Humminbird side imaging pictures of winning schools of bass.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

This is a GREAT video. I am 70 years old and I don't do will trying to experiment with electronics all by myself. This saved me years of fiddling around. I don't have that many left. Thank you for making this video. I am glad you won the tournament.
This is the only video on side imaging newbies need to watch. Period.
Yes! I’ve been looking for animations like this
Agree,really helpful
As someone who doesn’t have much interest in bass fishing, this is a fantastic, no nonsense, no speculation channel. Great video.
The SI demo with the light bulb and paper was the best demo I have EVER seen and I have watched a lot on SI. Your explanation of the water column and how far away objects actually are is awesome. For the first time I actually get it. Thanks!!
I don’t have Livescope, but have watched multiple Garmin side-scanning videos and this by far is the best. You are very articulate and explain very well what we are seeing, which we all appreciate. Keep up the great work and good luck fishing. Obviously with your skill set you don’t need as much luck as the rest of us.
This channels and “fish the moment “ are the best
Best side scan video I've seen...graphics were outstanding at the beginning to really show how things lay out in 3-D. Only suggestion is you say you have to "subtract" off the depth...that is not really correct. The object's distance is exactly what it says on the unit if you draw a line from the transducer to the object. You can think of this as the hypotenuse of a right triangle (one leg of the right angle is a line dropping from transducer to the bottom, the other right angle side is from the bottom directly under the boat moving to the side (right or left) along the bottom. You do not subtract the depth of the right angle side going from the boat to the bottom from the distance along the bottom's right angle side...instead you measure the hypotenuse to get the distance. So the object is closer than it appears if you just consider distance right/left of boat, but it is not as close as you would calculate if you subtract the depth off of the range. Your model shows this relationship well, but you should not say to subtract off the bottom depth as that will put the distance too close to the boat (you could use geometry to actually calculate it...this is called slant-range correction). Anyhow...all that does not diminish how outstanding this video is...thanks!
YESSS!!!! Thank you for saving me twenty minutes of typing!
This was probably the best overview on how to interpret side-scan I've come across so far. So many of the vids just go over the individual unit settings, but neglect to explain how to actually tell different things apart, be it structure, bottom types, or fish. Thanks for putting together a solid tutorial on actually understanding what's what on the screen and correlating it to the downscan. Got my first graph on the way and look forward to having a head start when I hopefully begin using it this spring.
I don't even own a boat let alone any electronics yet found this presentation quite interesting. Nicely done T.
Thanks for watching anyways! I appreciate it
Me too
To use side imaging you dont have to have a boat. These days kayaks are also good options to put a sonar on them.
Hands down, one of the best tutorials on interpreting electronics. Thank you. 🙏
One thing that was not mentioned regarding side imaging, the dark spot directly below the transducer/hull and the distance from your boat is directly correlated to the depth of the water you are in. To overcome this problem mark the brush, rock or structure on the screen with a waypoint/GPS then go back over the waypoint and dial in the location precisely with a waypoint edit.
This is the best video tutorial about side imaging, thanks for sharing...
The best video I've seen explaining side imaging, thank you. I've just spent a ton of money on electronics to up my game (meet my boys expectations of catching fish). I don't fish bass specifically, but feel with a little time on the water and practice, I will have the process mastered. Thank you again.
Have to compliment you on the thorough job you did in this video and in others that you do. This video alone had 3 tips I hadn't thought about And never heard on other videos trying to show side scan
I’m glad you picked up a few things. Thank you for watching
Best side imaging video I’ve watched. Description and information was broken down perfectly.
Excellent video. I'm 67 and have only been bass fishing for a few years, and I never get enough time on the water. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks!
Young man you absolutely killed this video. In fact maybe the best I've saw. Love seeing the the attention and education back on traditional,, SI and DI. Excellent show sir!
Love all the work you do brother. Making better fisherman of us all. Thank You Sir
I try my best. Thanks for the kind words
Best side imaging video on the internet hands down. GREAT work. I am a very experienced user and fully understand side imaging and still learned a few things.
This video is absolutely awesome.
It was exactly what I was looking for.
You did a perfect job explaining everything as simple as possible. Thank you very much 👍
This is by far the best Side imaging explanation video I have ever seen. Thank you so much and I just subscribe lol
This enlighten me a lot. For some reason I didn’t put together the major benefit of the split screen until this. I understand it so much more because of the cross referencing. I kinda understood the professionals having multiple graphs but now it really makes more sense. I have a Garmin and plan on setting my split screens up very soon. Also the side imaging with the “ white dots “ enlighten me even more. That part I didn’t know and I realize how far behind I am in the game but at least I know now. Thanks dude!
I am totally amazed at your presentation on side imagining. It’s light years from the Hummingbird Super 60 flasher I used way back when. I just wanted to say thank you for explaining it all. Very educational
Garmin owner but came to learn SI better.
Probably the most comprehensive video on learning Side Imaging on CZcams.
You would think the manufacturers of these electronics would make videos like this...
Best side imaging video I have watched, yet, nice job explaining and showing it.
Thanks so much Tyler...by far the best content available...great detail!
Thanks Ty. What a great help, always looking to get better with my electronics .Thanks again and God bless you and your family!!!
Im in the process of buying a boat now and this was definitely some need to know information. Awesome videos, keep the content coming.
Great refresher for me. I always pick up something new that will help. Awesome stuff!
Man this is the best explanation ive ever seen on side imaging! Thanks for this!!
Great job of explaining what you see when using side-imaging. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Ur videos have been helping me alot im new to the electronics game with fishing i really appreciate u taking the time to break this stuff down for us to learn
Best video I’ve found on Side Imaging. Great teaching video!
G'day mate. I've actually paused the video to ask this question. It was the only thing in my 4 hours of You Tube and Dr Google that wasn't explained and you did so perfectly. The distance "fold up' of the black space makes perfect sense now and thank you for stopping my brain coming out of my ears. The distance adjustment was something I thought of in other tutorials but never explained. My question is : Why don't the manufacturers factor this in and make it so much less confusing???? Love this vid. Cheers
Good question!
Really great video brother I understood this breakdown of sid imaging better then any other one I've watched...
Thanks for this simplified explanation of the use of side imaging.
Without a doubt, the best and most informative idea on using my Bird I have EVER watched 😎 Thanks so much Sir for sharing. I will be re-watching this one. Great job of teaching 👊😎

This is a truly fantastic explanation. Nicely done!
Thank you very much
Great video! I am still learning to use my side scan and this was VERY helpful at understanding what I’m seeing.
Home run!!! Mic drop! I couldn't ask for a more detailed explanation for using my Solix. Now, an on-the-water followup would be icing on the cake showing how you position your boat and lure selection. Thanks.
After watching numerous side scan videos finally the best video out there. Thank you for this effort. New subscriber here.
Wow by far the best video I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to create this...
