- Interpreting side imaging will the focus of the video. Using simulation and on the water images will help you understand what you’re seeing under the water. Settings options and my favourites will be shared to help you get the most out of your units. A Mega 360 video is also shared here to help you see what a great bonus feature this is on your Mega 360!
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
That’s awesome, glad it is working so well for you. 👍
Thanks, Steve. I just set up my boat with a helix si GN4, mega 360, and terrova i-pilot link and I am having a hell of a time learning the helix. This is the best, most concise video I've seen thus far. Part of the reason I've been having some trouble is that when I'm on the water I'm concerned that i'm paying too much attention to the screen rather than driving the boat. Now that I realize I can use simulation mode, I can practice in my driveway.
Thanks again, this was helpful.
When you’re side imaging you are only going 2-5 mph so it shouldn’t be a problem plus you have the screen image in case you miss something. Check out my Mega 360 settings and images video as well, you should find it helpful too.
Like always Steve very well done, great explanation of side imaging and settings to get the most out of your Hummingbird units 👏
Thanks Don, side imaging is an amazing tool if anglers take the time to learn and use the technology.
Thank goodness for your video as I have watched dozens and yours made the most sense. Thanks for the heads up!!!
You made my day Ray! I always appreciate hearing kind words about my videos.
Thank you for helping with the most misunderstood option on a fish finder. Great job
Thank you Jeff, it amazes me the number of anglers who don’t take advantage of the amazing capabilities of Humminbird side imaging. I appreciate you sharing your kind words.
By far the best explanation of this system. Thanks!
Thank you Tug N Chug, kind words are always appreciated!
Thank you for your great info, never used simulation mode, I’m going in the garage to try 👍
Thanks Ed, it’s a great way to practice and familiarize yourself with your electronics.
Great video buddy it proves you can teach an old dog a new trick Thanks
Awesome Robert, thanks, always appreciate knowing that my videos help.
Another great video!!! I’ve been taking physical notes. My boat is in the shop now getting my ultrex, mega live target lock and 10in helix head unit. And your really helping me out
Thanks again, so glad they are helping you out. I may put out a short TargetLock video soon. I haven’t quite decided yet. Hoping to get some more footage on the water. It’s November here and days are limited with the weather.
Another great video, thanks!!
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
That was excellent. Thank you.
You’re quite welcome, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful comment.
Great info Thanks Steve
You’re quite welcome, glad you found it helpful.
Very educational and informative!
Thanks Lee, I appreciate your kind words.
Nice job 👍🏼
Hey Steve great video... I have just got my helix 7 mega si, so appreciate your advice on settings.
Thanks for the kind words, they are very much appreciated.
Thank you for the great video and I like your videos. May I know how to save setting? Each time when I switch from ice mode to open water mode, all the settings I did in openwater change to default settings, I have to push buttons to re-set.
Thanks for the kind words Jason. I would suggest you take a picture of your settings or write down your settings prior to switching it to ice mode. When you go to reset your unit, you will have a great starting point by using settings you were happy with prior to converting to ice mode.
Our helix 7, 2nd gen we believe worked well for a few months. Then it started showing water depth of 1k and we lost sonar etc, I have unplugged and replugged and also checked transducer mount. Unplugging and replugging seems to make it work for about 5 mins and then it goes back to that crazy stuff. Thoughts???
Hi Alex, I know there were some issues with depth that were corrected with software updates. Have you checked to make sure that your unit is up to date? If so, manually setting your depth ranges can help.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Steve...
Hope all is well...
I am reviewing (again!) many of your videos...
I am looking for your Mega Live video, with your recommended settings information...
I am sure that I am overlooking it somehow, where can I find it...?
As always, thanks for all you do, god bless you and your family, my friend...
All is good here. Hope all is well with you too.

Thanks, Steve...
Got it...
Watched it...!
Another, "spot on" video from you...
Thanks much...!
Isaac...
Steve, when you make changes in simulation mode do they then change automatically in normal mode? Or do you need to remember what you did and change them once your on the water?
They will stay in your settings.
Would a si transducer make it possible for my helix 7 di able to pickup si or would need a dif unit ?
The Helix 7 DI unit does not work with a side imaging transducer unfortunately.
Question? I've watched your video a few times and haven't seen how you get rid of the vertical grid line when on the SI. I don't like them.
Hit menu, menu, go to sonar tab at top, scroll down to SI Range Lines, right click to turn them off. (make sure you have clicked custom, not angler under user mode which is menu menu under the set up tab)
@@stevechiassonfishing5876 Great, thanks for getting back to me.
Can you create your own panes on helix 10?
You have a selection of panes to choose from which will give you options. You can change the size of the panes but you are limited to the options available.
Hi is there a difference between MSI on the Helix vs Solix as in depth or resolution
Helix 12, 15 have the same resolution as Solix. Depths should be the same.
Thanks
Steve, how do you get the vertical measurement increments 20’ each? I have not seen those on my unit?
Thanks
Hit menu button twice, under sonar tab, scroll down to SI range lines and turn them on.
Steve I have a question not related to the video , but is still a hummingbird question ,how can I reach you I have a helix 9 mega Si/di and I have lost the water temperature off of my screen ,where can I go to get it back
By simply commenting here, I will get back to you in a day or two.
Hi Mike, make sure you are in custom mode not angler, hit menu menu and go the set up tab. Scroll down to digital readouts, select overlay or boxes, whichever you prefer. Once you’ve picked overlay or boxes, then you can scroll down one more and pick select readouts to customize your picks including temperature. In your messenger request, any Humminbird dealer should be able to order you a transducer if they don’t have it in stock.
If all else fails, hit restore defaults which is also under the set up tab and that will bring you back to factory settings.
I would like to see Side Imaging videos, but other than the demo, everyone plays that video, I want to see something recorded by you, let's see how it looks.
From about 6-11 minutes of the video are original images, with descriptions, taken from my boat.
How did you get the white lines 20 40 60?
Hit menu, menu, under the sonar tab, scroll down to SI range lines, turn on.
Thank you. Can we mark a spot on Side image way point it and put casting ring?
Just move the cursor, put it on top of structure you want then mark waypoint. Personally I don’t use the casting rings as the range lines give me the casting distance information I need to cast accurately.
@Steve Chiasson Fishing the range lines are what you told me about earlier right?
The range lines are the 20, 40, 60, 80 lines
Could have been old creek channel or road bed.
Quite possibly it could be an old creek channel or road bed. The shoreline is totally developed so there’s no clues there.
