    Good morning, Steve I enjoy your style of teaching and have learned a lot from it/you. I have a question for you I currently use my Mega Live on a Helix 9 and I am considering a Helix 12 and the images in this video are wonderful with this being way before the most recent update. I'm at a true crossroads. Do I make the jump to a Solix 12 or stay with the Helix line in a 12? I have also heard Solix and Helix don't work well together. When watching your newer videos I see you are currently running Solix so I think you would be most helpful with an opinion. Any input would be greatly appreciated Steve.

    After doing all kinds of research on the internet, I got the Terrova, 12V. 55 thrust and 45 shaft. I think that it will pull my 17 foot Nitro pretty well as I had a Motor Guide with a 40 pound thrust and that pulled it very well. I am going to have it mounted in the next couple of days and really look forward to trying it out. It's got a few more "bells & whistles" than I need, but I hope to learn how to get it to work. I think that the Spot Lock feature will really be a help the way that I fish. I bought it mainly for the Auto Pilot. When I lived in Florida, in the 90's, I had an AP motor and LOVED it!! You will have more success using your 2D sonar which shoots out a cone signal. The cone angle will allow you to see your bait. MegaLive is also another way to see your bait. Ice fishing you can even see your swivel above the drop shoot hook, bait, and weight falling.

    Do you know if you can over ride the automatic stowing feature where it turns the head automatically when you pull up on the rope? For example, in shallow water I often pick up the motor but only half way and use the foot pedal to steer still and guide the motor to get out of the shallow water so the bottom of the motor is not hitting the bottom of the lake but still running the motor so I can power out while picking it up a smidge. Unsure how this may read as I have been having a hard time describing this in writing.

    Hi Steve I am having a problem setting up my views and putting my picks on the 3 quick buttons on the bottom.. it's not the same menu that comes up as in your videos. When I go through the views I can't find any of DI/sonar views. Way to many chart views and other systems views. I did not get a manual when I got the boat. No just sonar views that I can find. I don't know why they don't show up in the menu.

      As far as I know you press and hold the buttons just like Helix, I had a 958 and 959 units and they were press and hold too. In case you haven’t seen this one czcams.com/video/by5OwxaZWUQ/video.htmlsi=_cbwoUbjQGHJCYxc

    I really like the way you do these videos. You take your time, you thoroughly explain the settings, and I like when you use a pencil to point things out. So many "how to" videos rush through things, have poor camera angles, and I learn almost nothing from watching them. My hat is off to you because these things are SO COMPLEX its not easy to learn all the functions. It takes me a long time to learn computer things as I did not grow up with computers and I hate learning new software.

      Your kind words are a fantastic start to my day. Your willingness to learn is an essential part of getting comfortable with your electronics. Everything is hard before it’s easy 😊.

    I had a 2018 Ulterra on my boat with Ipilot link with the touch screen remote. The remote is so sensitive that when my shirt brushed against the screen it would make the trolling motor to do things you didn't want it to do. Like deploy in shallow water and it ended up bending the stow/deploy motor shaft. It also locked the remote without me knowing and I was trolling on speed 6 when I saw a big submerged rock, I tried steering around it but nothing happened because the remote was locked. I hit that rock and me and my partner were thrown out of our seats to the ground. Luckily we didn't get hurt but we could of easily. The last time I went fishing the trolling motor failed to deploy, I finally got that to work and then it wouldn't trim up or down. I never got that to work. I believe it fried either the main board or the trim motor board. But, it's still under warranty. So, I purchased the new quest ulterra. That thing is a BEAST. I am still in the installation phase. When I get my 2018 ulterra back from warranty work, I am going to sell it. I hope I won't have any problems with this new motor. I am glad it doesn't have the touch screen remote because that is what gave me all the problems on my old unit. I also bought the MK57 plate for the Quest ulterra. I don't know if I will use it yet because it's really heavy and my boat is a Nitro 170dc. With the new motor being over 20lbs heavier, it might be too much weight in the front with that plate. Plus, I am 330lbs..LOL Thanks for your video 😊 Tight lines Bro

      I just put the Ultrex Quest on my boat. The Ulterra Quest design thoroughly impressed me. The Quest series is definitely beast like in quality. We used my buddies Quest in a recent tournament and it was awesome!

    I did EVERYTHING Hummingbird said and it still doesn't work. The new basemap is on my SD card and it simply won't upload. Frankly, if Hummingbird didn't make such lousy units they wouldn't have to keep updating and fixing them. I literally would have rather bought a new one that have to deal with this hours long nightmare that won't end. I'm 60 years old and I'd rather be fishing than trying to help their company deal with their own inadequacies.

      I did the Basemap video to do my best to help people. There were a few more steps with this update. Did you follow all the instructions in my video?

    Nice job!!! How did you attach the ultrex? I’m trying to put one on mine but I’m having trouble with clearance. Which boots did you use?

    The older units had the puck mounted away from the TM, which you had to calibrate ,as you said newTM has it built in do you still have to calibrate it?

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876 Před 2 měsíci

      I just installed mine but haven’t had it out on the water. I helped a friend with his and we did a keel offset. We set the Quest to straight on deploy and designated stow orientation. I didn’t see anything about doing circles anymore. The keel offset is the calibration. I will be doing mine soon. If anything else needs to be done I will let you know.

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876 Před 2 měsíci

      No circles to calibrate, just the keel offset, straight on deploy, and stow orientation. Quite simple to set up. The motor comes with a separate instruction manual to complete set up. In the installation manual, it goes into a discussion about indexing the trolling motor. In my experience, the trolling motor and prop shaft line up with the pedal being parallel to the boat so you are usually good to go as far as indexing goes. My boat should be good to go by the end of the day.

    You make good points on the reason for larger reels. One I don't totally agree with. I fish smaller, shallower waters than you, so most reels have too much line capacity. I solved that by putting a filler on my reels, and can keep fresh line on.my reels for less cost. The issue is retreive speed. I spend more time slowing my retreive down for a longer presentation than utilizing the retreive speed of the reel. Thanks for your informative videos.

      If you’re referring to the trolling motor on and off switch mine needs replacing too. I had to cable tie wrap it last trip so it would stay on. Hopefully I can use a switch similar to one for my lithium electronics battery in video. I will look into that very soon. If you don’t hear back, drop another comment to remind me.

    Thank you Steve, I have watched most of your videos a few times. I hope you do many more in the future. This has taken a lot of the confusion away and replace it with knowledge and understanding on the operation of my Helix 7 G4. I appreciate your hard work on all of your videos you have made. Thank you again. Bob Mackey, out West on the Columbia River in East Wenatchee, Centeral Washington State.
