  • Arguably, this is one of the most important options on your Humminbird electronics! The restore defaults option is quite often one of the most effective quick fixes to regain operational functionality if something has gone “wrong”. Think of the restore defaults option as Troubleshooting 101 on your list of fix it options. Learn how people sometimes get in trouble by changing options and not being able to get back to “where they were” when things were working well. A friend who supports my CZcams channel, Steve Chiasson Fishing, requested a video on my preferred settings that I use after completing a restore defaults. I will highlight the settings I activate to get my Humminbird Helix back to the settings I use regularly. Software updates generally require you to restore defaults. If you have multiple units, it can be a bit of a time consuming process. Hopefully this video will help you completely understand that the factory defaults settings are a very helpful starting point/guideline to successful operation of your Humminbird electronics. As users become more familiar with their Helix or Solix, they will want to take advantage of the many extra features available from Humminbird to help you optimize and get the most out of your unit(s). The Humminbird Helix restore defaults option may very well become an option that will become one of your favourites. You may be able to help your Humminbird friends and become a helpful troubleshooter after watching the video.

    Thank you Steve, I have watched most of your videos a few times. I hope you do many more in the future. This has taken a lot of the confusion away and replace it with knowledge and understanding on the operation of my Helix 7 G4. I appreciate your hard work on all of your videos you have made. Thank you again. Bob Mackey, out West on the Columbia River in East Wenatchee, Centeral Washington State.

    Speaking for myself, I have found your series of video to be extremely beneficial. I have a pretty good grasp of my HB Gen 4 Helix-10 thanks to you. I worry about software updates because I have been notified of one, but because I do not have live imaging I have not updated.

      Thanks for the kind words Duke. If your unit is working fine and you’re happy with it, there’s really no need to do updates. Updates include fixes, ability to use newer technology so it’s a personal decision.

      Steve..
      Do you have or will you be creating a step by step video on Auto Chart Live for first time users..?
      I just installed a Helix 15 and would like to follow your instructions for setup/use...
      Thanks much..

      I currently don’t have an Autochart video. It’s certainly one I have considered doing and did a little preliminary work on one. After ice out, I will try to get a video done.

    What's the difference between heading up or course up?

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876  Před měsícem +1

      Heading up is boats current direction map rotates with boats direction, course up is used when navigating to a waypoint. I will send you a picture in other conversation.

    I have been immersed your videos as I am in the process of upgrading everything HB on my boat. Could you give me an idea how much time it took to install you 4 screens, pull all the wires, install the ethernet, and mount the Mega live and mega 360. I wonder if I am up to the challenge.

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876  Před rokem

      Hi Jim, thank you for watching my videos. It’s rewarding when people have instilled their trust in my videos. I would encourage you to mount and install your own set up. It will take time for sure but you will understand more about what makes your boat tick and be able to trouble shoot things much better. Cleaning up wires and labelling them is a huge help. It’s hard to pinpoint a specific amount of time. I would bank on at least a couple of days. Taking your time and doing things right may be more time consuming but worth it in the end. As with any job, determine the best mounting locations and use quality mounts. Use quality marine wiring and connectors. There are helpful videos out there on boat wiring.

    Does anyone know what the little hole on the head unit is for? Looks like you can insert a paperclip and that is usually for reset purposes. I just tried updating the software on my Helix 7 and now it is bricked. Going to try inserting a paperclip and see if that does anything. Any ideas? Thanks Steve and the gang.

    • @stevechiassonfishing5876
      @stevechiassonfishing5876  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Keith, I have never heard of anyone doing that and it doesn’t say anything about that hole in the manual. It’s possible that they use that for a reset at the factory. What happened that you know it’s bricked? Will it turn back on?

    • @keithhester2648
      @keithhester2648 Před 7 měsíci

      @@stevechiassonfishing5876 Yeah I think it may just be a vent hole or something, not a hardware reset button. The unit is stuck in a boot up loop, it powers on and loads the humminbird logo, then shuts down, then powers up again, then shuts down, over and over. Very frustrating that I have to probably spend hundreds to fix this issue when it seems like a software problem direct from Humminbird.

      Contact Humminbird support and see if they have any suggestions. It’s tough to suggest anything else if you can’t get past the boot up screen.
